Motherhood has clearly come as a shock to her and she isn't coping. Generally she comes across as a very capable and confident person so I guess this isn't what she expected. I'm not surprised she wants to go back to her job and her "old self".

I suppose she never got a chance to prepare for being a mum because she didn't tell anyone about it!

The guy got his burns because he was rescuing her (in the mistaken belief that she was pregnant). She was trapped under a very heavy table which he had to lift off of her ankle so that she could move.
