New itv series - 4 parts - runs mon to thur

When recently widowed Vivienne announces her love for new man Mark, it throws the family of adult children into chaos

With their large family home and inheritance at risk , the siblings try to find out more about their mums new love

Sounds like the recent toy boy drama and mum meets new man ....... minus being a toy boy 😂😂

It wasn’t Mary really though, it was an accident. They just went along with her lie. We still don’t really know what was going on.

AlexaAmbidextra · 28/02/2020 23:19

Were they using Dr as in Dr Mark Surname or as in he is a doctor though?

When the daughter was checking him out on the internet he was shown as Dr Mark Keneally when he would have been Mr Mark Keneally as he was an orthopaedic surgeon.

LadyEv · 28/02/2020 23:41

So did Mark accidentally set fire to his own car by accidentally flicking a secret ciggy off the balcony? That's what the scene where he was later caught smoking seemed to suggest? Surely he would have been more angry if he really thought someone else had set it alight?

stumbledin · 29/02/2020 00:50

I posted earlier in this thread that I thought Mark set light to the fire because he couldn't really afford it and this way he could get the insurance money. Assuming that he only wanted to marry Viv for her money. ie accidently getting her to be near Gibraltar so they could marry, when she had told him she didn't want to get married.

The80sweregreat · 29/02/2020 09:18

If Mark was a surgeon for years, surely he wouldn't be that skint? He had money from his wife dying too. Unless we were all duped and he was lying? Not sure now. The car fire has made me wonder!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 29/02/2020 09:48

If Mark was a surgeon for years, surely he wouldn't be that skint? He would have been very comfortably off in retirement. Unless he had a gambling habit

WhatKatyDidNot · 29/02/2020 10:08

Too many loose ends left hanging!

UntamedWisteria · 29/02/2020 11:22

It wasn’t Mary really though - We saw her trying to suffocate him at the end.

Diazepam is a tranquilliser. I think it's clear that it was for Mark's consumption all along (and he hadn't told Viv) so her suspicions about finding it in his suitcase were all wrong.

But also he'd managed to keep from her that he smoked (surely she'd have smelled it?) so all that stuff about trusting each other was a load of guff ... I think the scales were starting to fall from Viv's eyes.

I do think it's odd that he was keen to get married so quickly though.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 29/02/2020 12:11

It's a researched fact that men don't survive well on their own when widowed/divorced (particularly as they get older). Maybe his eagerness to marry quickly was born out of the desire for companionship?

Honeyroar · 29/02/2020 18:52

I missed Mary suffocating him!!

There’s bound to be a second series next year, when we’ve completely forgotten what had happened!

SavageBeauty73 · 29/02/2020 19:09

On episode 3. So bored. Does it get any better?

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/02/2020 19:47

She held his nose and hand over mouth or the usual mouth to mouth help

The80sweregreat · 29/02/2020 21:23

Oh yes they are bound to bring it back next year. We will have a thread going ' oh yeah , forgot that bit' .
It will have Mark planning revenge and Jake trying to go back with his ex and lily the granddaughter getting pregnant and Mary trying to not get killed and Viv will meet someone else that Mary will also try to have a ' nasty accident' on the beach!

southeastdweller · 29/02/2020 21:28

Thought this was great - so much better than the usual ITV crap. Really good characterisation and acting in this (but agree Stephen Rea was miscast). Wish it had been a six-parter.

purpleme12 · 01/03/2020 00:36

I thought this was really good

mrwalkensir · 01/03/2020 00:46

isn't one of the points is that Vivienne is back and trapped where most of her family and neighbour want her to be... by their clumsy means? That they've failed to kill Mark is just messing things up...

The80sweregreat · 01/03/2020 09:38

It was a long drop to the floor, I'm surprised he survived really.

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/03/2020 09:58

I suppose falling on to the shingle helped. Concrete might have killed him.

oohnicevase · 01/03/2020 10:33

There was a brick ridge around the shingle wasn't there ? That's what he hit his head on but he certainly looked very present when he opened his eyes .
I would guess he would have amnesia and they all go round flapping about it until he gets bits of his memory back . I don't think Mary wanted to hate mark , I think she was very protective of viv and the family she took on as her own . Do you recall mark was putting those lights up ? Maybe he loosened the rail then and was hoping to bump viv off .?
Although I think the twist is that his intentions were good and he needed a lot fo medication himself and that was his secret .. it's too predictable and obvious otherwise isn't it ? Or have I missed the point ??🤷‍♀️ I find British tv very simplistic and lacks the depth of American tv which is weird as everyone says they are the stupid ones 🤔

Monty27 · 01/03/2020 10:42

I was wondering about electrocution when he was fitting individual bulbs. Confused
But wasn't there a conversation about a swimming pool and he'd marked it out on the stones.
I haven't been watching it in detail to be honest due to interruptions.
I even managed to get Viv and Mary's names confused way up thread.

oohnicevase · 01/03/2020 10:47

I know , I was watching it whilst reading Mumsnet so I may be wrong .

purpleme12 · 01/03/2020 10:52

I don't know. I did take from it that Mark was a bit shadowy in the end.

I thought that Mary just wanted to protect the children in the end from the trouble they might have got into from the scuffle.i think she saw their lives as so intertwined.

lazymum99 · 01/03/2020 11:11

As an aside that quilt Mary made from the children’s old clothes was really lovely. It’s a great idea. I found it quite moving!

UntamedWisteria · 01/03/2020 12:02

Yes, i think the quilt was an indication of her deep familial love for Viv & her children, somewhat offsetting the creepiness...

ginghamstarfish · 01/03/2020 12:18

I just hope that teenage daughter got in trouble for putting the pics of her mum on FB - what a nasty cow, it resulted in mum losing her job.
