New itv series - 4 parts - runs mon to thur

When recently widowed Vivienne announces her love for new man Mark, it throws the family of adult children into chaos

With their large family home and inheritance at risk , the siblings try to find out more about their mums new love

Sounds like the recent toy boy drama and mum meets new man ....... minus being a toy boy 😂😂

I love ' notes on a scandal'
Good film and book. This was a bit similar.

BeansOnToast123 · 27/02/2020 22:05

@The80sweregreat it’s my favourite book and film, I’ve read it so many times! My mum put me onto it many years ago.

Honeyroar · 27/02/2020 22:10

The mother hates them all! How could they expect her to sit and play happy families!

CoolCarrie · 27/02/2020 22:10

I enjoyed it, and Imelda is going to be brilliant as QE2 in The Crown.

The80sweregreat · 27/02/2020 22:11

Beans, it's a great book and Judi Dench was fab in the film as Barbara!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/02/2020 22:19

Can’t beleive all were sitting down eating salmon and shelled peas while he was in hospital

Wouldn’t viven sit with him?

But yes MARY played well

Tho sure WAs a body bag in e1

How funny if we’ve based our whole thread and theories on a body bag that doesn’t exist! So a little flat end, although there was a suggestion of a twist when he opened his eyes. I enjoyed it though.

Janus · 27/02/2020 22:23

Wtf??? In the beginning we definitely saw someone being zipped up in a body bag, if someone was not dead (ie a pulse!!) you’d never zip them up in a bag. That’s so disappointing.

Charley50 · 27/02/2020 22:40

I thought I'd feel glad for Vivienne that Mark was a bit dead, but as he turned out not to be a bad'un, I felt really sad for her. Oh well at least he's alive; they can cook Mary and eat her or something when he's feeling better.

youngestisapsycho · 27/02/2020 23:29

Why did the detective mention Stella when interviewing the son? She was nothing to do with any of it??

unique1986 · 27/02/2020 23:49

I liked everyone but Mark ewww

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 27/02/2020 23:51

I thought there was a body bag also.
I’m going to rewatch the first episode & see.

Well I wouldn’t want to live next door to Mary but did she think she was protecting Vivian who now loathes her dcs. She doesn’t trust them any more... and they are now quite smug.

Fere · 28/02/2020 00:54

There was a bluish body bag. I suspect this will be part of another series.

BeansOnToast123 · 28/02/2020 07:29

Could the body bag have been a flash back to marks wife that died?

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/02/2020 07:38

The body bag definitely seemed to be on the shingle. Perhaps it was someone wrapped up very tightly in a blue/black blanket on a stretcher and we all thought it was a body bag. I'm going to have to watch the beginning of episode 1 again.

Mooserp · 28/02/2020 08:00

I really enjoyed it but I'd rather there isn't a second series. I liked how it ended with him opening his eyes and you're left with wondering if he remembers what Mary did and what will happen.

One thing I don't get is why the detective said, if the person in hospital didn't recover then it's murder (I think those were his words).

JinglingHellsBells · 28/02/2020 08:41

I thought it was rubbish. Started well and went downhill.

Stephen Rea was miscast- mumbling Irish accent, dodgy hang dog looks, not the type of man Viv would be with surely?

The last episode was disappointing. I assumed it was him who would die though there was always the option of it to be Viv.

It was a very thin plot. Even the 'twist' at the end (not really a twist at all ) was so predictable.

Errors- why did we not see Viv being interviewed at the end? She was the most likely one to crack.

Why did the son's wife have access to the flat he was living in (key?) and stumble in on him and the other woman?
Why was Viv, who supposedly was such a strong person (running a salon?) and bringing up her 3 kids, get swept along by this man and marry him so quickly when in episode 1 she thought that was off her agenda?

Honestly. if this was a novel in its own right I'd think it was rubbish.

lazymum99 · 28/02/2020 08:56

But was she such a strong person. She stayed with a husband who was having an affair for years.
The kids were all pretty messed up with 2 of them having alcohol issues.
Mind you what family is straight forward??!!

The80sweregreat · 28/02/2020 08:58

The immobile detective did mumble ' murder' then didn't really mention it anymore! All very Strange.

FLOrenze · 28/02/2020 10:23

Do you think Series 2 will be Mark in a wheelchair plotting to murder Mary.

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/02/2020 10:36

I'm not sure if series 2 is such a good idea. Maybe it's better to leave it to our imagination.

Bunnylady54 · 28/02/2020 10:40

I enjoyed it overall but a bit disappointed at the end. Also confused about the tablets. Was Mark taking them, not giving them secretly to Viv? I would love to look as good as Francesca Annis at 74!

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/02/2020 11:05

They said he had taken a lot of alcohol and diazepan. So was he taking it himself (if so why) or was Mary somehow giving him the tablets she had stolen?

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/02/2020 11:06

Diazepam

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 28/02/2020 11:19

Ok so I’ve watched the clip from the first episode. It’s interesting we all thought we saw a body bag. It’s someone on a stretcher! Covered in a blue blanket.
