Also, whose husband, if you had told their mother to Fuck off would have been so calm about it . He said "she was just trying to help". If I had told my MIL to fuck off with the same level of venom that Kate did, I'm pretty sure my DH would have hit the roof and we'd have been rowing about it for days. He took it as normal which implies that kate and her MILs relationship was always stormy. It just struck me as an odd reaction to his wife's out burst to his mum

SpanishFly · 20/01/2020 23:27

It was dusk when they headed home so roughly 9pm.
I thought this was meant to be midsummer? In which case dusk could easily be 10ish.
Also, wouldn't we know by now if they were dead 2 hrs before the fire? I.e. that would be a pivotal point to the plot that the police etc would be focussing on.

Piggywaspushed · 21/01/2020 07:01

I told my FIL to fuck off once . My DH didn't hit the roof. He deserved it. The MIL in this case should have whole MN MIL thread!

Squigean · 21/01/2020 07:06

Doubt it's that much past 10pm as it wasn't dark.

Though trying to analyse the programme to this extent does rely on the writers/producers thinking about every single detail!!

I'm not sure there some many cryptic clues or complex meaning in the show as we're creating on the thread! The level of build up is going to lead to a big let down.

I still haven't got over Lost

Squigean · 21/01/2020 07:11

Think it depends how much weight you put in the the words "fuck off". I've picked up from MN that some people find the use utterly horrendous and almost abusive, where as others don't have any meaning in using the words but the tone.

Piggywaspushed · 21/01/2020 08:12

I definitely do find the words bad but it is all being done to suggest a woman at the end of her tether. To feed us the (no doubt red herring) idea that she might snap and kill herself and her family.

The MIL is obviously always flapping about and getting on her nerves with her MIL judginess.

SpanishFly · 21/01/2020 08:19

Yep, I said it could easily be 10pm, in reply to the post saying it must have been 9pm as it was dusk. I just think if they died within 15 mins but the fire was 2 hours later, that would be the main point by now

MadeForThis · 21/01/2020 10:46

When Kate's old friend was at the funeral Jess said they were friends from teacher training and she looked confused but said yes. If she's not just there to show how Tom slept with Kate's friends then there might be something hidden in their past. Ex lovers etc.

In one scene Jess was looking at a go fund me page for the funerals. Someone had donated, think the name began with S. Maybe Sandra. But the comment was something like "finally at peace" I can't watch it again now but that might be a clue???

CheekyFucker · 21/01/2020 10:53

@MadeForThis that comment was from the old friend. Her name is Sacha or something like that. She posted 'I hope you can finally rest in peace', or words very similar.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 21/01/2020 18:44

I thought I understood what was happening but this thread has made me question everything so watching again!

For those discussing the contents of the rubbish bag I paused & took a pic of the tv - generally kids junk, candles, a few wine bottle lids & a cork & what looks like a Nespresso pod which has thrown me as it's not the sort of thing that you'd have on a car or at a barn ceilidh.

CheekyFucker · 21/01/2020 18:47

Hmm. I noticed the espresso pod too. Peculiar indeed.

Cannot see the keys in this pic, but they were definitely there.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 21/01/2020 18:52

@CheekyFucker the keys are taken out of the bag with the receipt & packaging just after this

CheekyFucker · 21/01/2020 18:52

The birthday cake was on the table at the beach. When Kate and Jess left with the kids, they did not take any of the picnic stuff with them, so the candles would not have ended up in Kate's car. Tom would have travelled with his family, I would think, so that leaves Steve, and the Grandparents (3 of them). They would have needed at least one other car to get them to the beach. Carol has a Landrover.

CheekyFucker · 21/01/2020 18:53

@NatashaAlianovaRomanova good good Wink

SilentSarey · 23/01/2020 00:46

I honestly don’t see how anyone finds this confusing. I’m usually rather a thickie with plots but this one is easy 🤷‍♀️

peanutfoldover · 23/01/2020 00:54

It’s all very ‘clean’ rubbish. If that rubbish was in a bag in my car it would all be soggy and covered in yoghurt and orange wotsit dust.

CheekyFucker · 23/01/2020 07:20

@SilentSarey would you like to share your wisdom with us thickos then?

SpanishFly · 23/01/2020 08:37

@SilentSarey so.....what's your theory?

SilentSarey · 23/01/2020 08:38

I meant all the people (more at the beginning of the thread tbf) who were saying it’s hard to follow who’s who!

Werking · 23/01/2020 10:04

The birthday cake was on the table at the beach. When Kate and Jess left with the kids, they did not take any of the picnic stuff with them, so the candles would not have ended up in Kate's car.

Ooh brilliant point @CheekyFucker! I hope the programme makers don’t play dirty by either having forgot that or later showing Kate etc picking up and taking the rubbish.

CheekyFucker · 23/01/2020 20:53

Kate's car would have been valeted after the crash anyway. Although it was likely written off. It wasn't parked outside the house, and I did not see a garage.

@SilentSarey have a little peek at Gransnet. They are still trying to work our who is who. Too many skinny men with beards, and slim blonde women.

SilentSarey · 23/01/2020 23:26

😂😂😂

My DH should join Gransnet. He can’t cope if any if the main characters look even vaguely alike. Actually he can’t cope if peripheral characters look even vaguely like the main characters.

Give him a plot involving mistaken identity or worse, twins and his head explodes.

Werking · 24/01/2020 01:03

@CheekyFucker @SilentSarey ooh shall we have a solve-it-off with Gransnet without telling them ? See if we can work out whodunnit first Grin

peanutfoldover · 24/01/2020 02:32

But why was the yoghurt pot CLEAN? Who carefully cleans a yoghurt put and then puts it into the rubbish bag whilst rushing away from the beach?

(I realise that I’ve become overly hung up on the fact that a car involved in an actual accident is cleaner and tidier than my car.)

WhoWants2Know · 24/01/2020 06:28

Now that you mention it, I'm embarrassed by that too.
