I thought the day Jess came round with wine was the day she had sex with Tom, wasn't it? Because he was doing all the touchy-feely I understand bullshit on the couch Hmm Envy not envy but vom at him being so manipulative
I was so focused on trying to hear what was going on, I forgot to notice what people were wearing. That might have helped to work out the days.

CheekyFucker · 19/01/2020 11:11

Re the injections - did anyone notice when Jess yelped with one of them? This could happen if the needle had been used to inject 5 other people. A yelp usually means it is blunt. May be nothing, but why include it?

Has anyone ever seen the IVF jags? Do they use two needles?

CheekyFucker · 19/01/2020 11:15

The wine on the beach, poured my Tom, was from a full bottle. The mention of her being just over the limit fits with that volume of alcohol taken in a gulp.

CheekyFucker · 19/01/2020 11:15

By Tom. Not my Tom.

Breathmiller · 19/01/2020 11:24

Oh yes. So it was. And remembering this is set in Scotland where the allowance is lower so very little puts you over the limit.

Breathmiller · 19/01/2020 11:28

*jess
Yes, i think you're right.

So 3 days in the timeline?

Day of beach and car crash

Day of piss up in Kate's house and Jess having sex with sleazy Tom.

Day of bike race, Ceilidh and fire.

Is that right?

Which order though?
Was the piss up after or before the car crash?

And was the video in the nicely decked garden the day of the piss up/sex scene?

It's all set in one summer at least isn't it?

CheekyFucker · 19/01/2020 11:34

The order isn't clear.

CheekyFucker · 19/01/2020 11:43

The counsellor might not be Kate's counsellor. Steve is clearly traumatised by the events and would likely be sent for counselling through work. We have not heard much from him so far.

I wonder if he was shagging Kate? The night Kate got pissed, she was very persistent in telling Jess how much she loved her. I wonder if that was due to guilt.

Breathmiller · 19/01/2020 11:44

No.
What is clear is I need to step away from mumsnet and get on with some real life stuff Grin

CheekyFucker · 19/01/2020 11:47

Same here 🤣

ChicChicChicChiclana · 19/01/2020 11:49

The drinking and smoking weed in the garden was the same day Kate got pissed and Tom and Jess had sex.

I think that was before the beach/car crash day as Kate was definitely funny in the car with Jess and also furious with DT which is why they rowed and she stormed off. Just my theory though.

The bike race/Ceilidh/fire day is when the story starts but the third day in the timeline.

I'm a little annoyed that things like the autopsy report and more on the police investigation, more on the local gossip is being kept from us. But then it wouldn't be a fairly bog standard TV drama that keeps the viewers guessing I suppose.

nibdedibble · 19/01/2020 12:29

Ivf auto-injectors are just one needle and they are stab by little fuckers so I’m not surprised she yelped.
So much about the ivf bit is very true-to-life, I actually had a little rush of adrenaline when the nurse said ‘look for the flash’.

Squigean · 19/01/2020 12:36

So in other words Jess and Steve wouldn't have needles they could use on someone else? I'm assuming pre-loaded needes can't be opened and refilled.

Redglitter · 19/01/2020 12:44

I just watched the first episode last night & I'm totally lost 🙄

CheekyFucker · 19/01/2020 12:58

@nibdedibble thank you for the insight. I loved the little flash.

Afaik pre-filled cannot be refilled or changed.

nibdedibble · 19/01/2020 13:49

Do you know, I have forgotten about the needles. I think the first time I had the auto-injectors, but another time I definitely had to fill them myself from ampoules, because I remember asking a GP friend how deep to do the injections. It was so long ago now I have erased this information from my brain!
It definitely looks like hers are not reusable.
And as a PP said, we saw Tom putting a zipped pouch into his case in ep 1.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/01/2020 14:32

Def 3 days

Beach and crash

Wine - failed ivf - one night stand

Race dance fire

I’m thinking The wine and failed ivf /ons came after beach as kate is upset and Jess is over failed ivf

Don’t think Jess was drinking at beach as in 2ww

Then 2w later the wine and one

And then fire

ktel1 · 19/01/2020 14:41

What we've been told so far regarding the timelines of the fire and deaths - not necessarily true.

They arrive home from the dance and within roughly 20 minutes the girls are dead. (based on Tom's account)

It was dusk when they headed home so roughly 9pm.

Time of death 9.20 pm.

Call made by someone in the house to the mother in law at 11.23pm

The alarm was sounded about the fire at 11.38pm.

Emily seen running in the woods by Dylan the same night .

Two hours between the time the girls are killed and a fire starting.

ktel1 · 19/01/2020 14:57

Assumed order of events.

Failed IVF, drinking and 1 night stand.

Beach trip and car accident.

Dance and fire.

We don't know the time that elapsed between each day.

Candles were found in the bin after the fire so an assumption was made that it wasn't too long after the beach trip.

Also the court case hadn't happened yet - I don't know how much time they usually take.

However Jess was drinking at the beach and on the day of the fire it appeared that she had been off alcohol for quite a while related to the IVF treatment. I suppose it could still fit.

We don't have information on other key aspects including the date the padlock was bought, when the videos were made in the girls' bedroom and in the garden.

CheekyFucker · 19/01/2020 15:06

@ktel1 it is not definite that the court case had not happened yet. There is ambiguity in what was said.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 19/01/2020 15:08

One thing I find amazing is that they all got out of that car without serious injury.

CheekyFucker · 19/01/2020 15:10

I keep thinking about the contents of the bin. The fire started in the kitchen. The lounge was completely destroyed so the kitchen would have been too. It was therefore not the kitchen bin. The contents were not the usual either.

Perhaps it was from the car? Juice box, candles, looks like a chocolate wrapper, yoghurt pot and lid. That is all I could see.

Werking · 19/01/2020 15:14

I enjoyed episode 2 but I’m finding some of the one the nose’-ness tedious.

In episode 1 we’re supposed to get the impression they presented as a perfect family, complete with a beaming DT and Kate discussing how the day had been absolutely perfect Hmm

And in ep 2 we have sinister, abrasive DT.

I know the point is meant to be that things aren’t always as they seem, but I think they could have been less didactic in the storytelling in places.

Someone said earlier they didn’t trust Kate’s GP as he came across odd: I agree but I think that was just bad acting or directing or writing, or all of the above. His lines were a bit duff.

The actress who plays Kate, Anna Madeley, is wonderful and I think her parts are especially nuanced. Her scenes with DT are great. They catch that marital tension and harshness and disappointment, that could be a snapshot of irritation from built-up resentment, or indicative of something much darker.

CheekyFucker · 19/01/2020 15:21

About the other GP. I don't think you can blame bad acting, directing or writing. It is what it is. He would know full well he cannot break confidentiality even when the patient is dead. Especially as it was a colleague's wife. He could lose his job for that.

EnidBlyton · 19/01/2020 15:41

hmm, i wonder if they all had injections to help them to sleep or something. and the fire was accidental and coincidental
