I just have subtitles on as all mutter - then mn at breaks

Last week I missed stuff as on phone and rewatched

Yes TOM slept with Kate’s college friend. And Jess. Wonder how many others - maybe why kate was depressed if she knew

CheekyFucker · 18/01/2020 08:28

@Piggywaspushed the little boy had a small burn from the barn dance fire. I think she was putting a new dressing on that.

Janemarpling · 18/01/2020 09:22

What was Jess doing with the first aid kit with one of the boys in his room?

I think it was to show the Mother was in a bit inept and preferred to spend time with her young boyfriend.
Also the argument at the start where she was asking the policeman to have their sons for an extra few hours.

I guess it is trying to portray her Motherly nature as she got up in the night and not their Dad.

Graphista · 18/01/2020 09:44

Hmm I think Jess will be the person who first twigs who the culprit is.

Think we're building up to either a "miscarriage of justice" set up or a seeming "miscarriage of justice" he gets acquitted and then it's revealed he's guilty.

If it's not him...then who? I really hope not Kate, can't see it being Jess or Steve.

Old uni roommates a jealous headcase? Stalker?

Can't work out why Dylan lying though. Presumably Steve asked him to but why - ambition, the kudos of "closing" the case? Is he guilty - I really can't see that somehow.

Feels like it's gonna be slow slow slow then all the loose ends wrapped up in final episode - rushed! Hate when they do that

adhdme2019 · 18/01/2020 09:46

Why has Jess asked a couple of times what she said at the end?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/01/2020 09:46

Did someone say it's only a four episode series? In which case lots to reveal in a short space of time.

You know when the detective (aka Jane from Eastenders actress) was watching the girls bouncing around before bedtime and then Tom's face lingered in shot (looking quite menacing). What was that all about?

bumblenbean · 18/01/2020 09:56

Damn it I was forced Grin to google David tennant naked and the results were all bizarre gay porn images with fake superimposed penises 😱 I will have to remain in the dark about the true nature of the DT appendage ...

Incidentally he has played quite a few very sinister characters. Does anyone remember the Nicci French adaptation ‘secret smile’ where he dated two sisters consecutively and made everyone think the first sister was a bitter ex when in fact he was a complete psycho ...

amaryl · 18/01/2020 09:58

I’ve never read a tv Thread where so many people are confused and missing things.
Just concentrate!

IcedPurple · 18/01/2020 10:09

They seem to be putting a lot of focus on Jess' fertility problems. I wonder if that's going to turn out to be significant in some way?

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 18/01/2020 10:09

Yeah I’m interested to see how the home movie with DT all menacing looking pans out that was a bit strange

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/01/2020 10:12

I agree that he's played some sinister roles. The beard makes him look more menacing. Loved him in Dr Who though!

I was paying attention. I just didn't get why he was looking so menacing (not even sure that was what he was portraying?), unless he didn't realise he was being filmed? Was that filming supposed to have been taken on the evening of the fire?

cathyandclare · 18/01/2020 10:21

Yes also didn't get the menacing looks ( and I wasn't MNing). i wondered if some of the films were from hidden spy cameras that he'd set up to keep an eye on Kate- but they seemed to be filmed on the normal cam.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/01/2020 10:54

In some of these thrillers, you only have to blink at the wrong moment to miss something significant.

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2020 11:00

Ah, OK cheeky had forgotten that! It was just in a normal injection site.

It will become significant that Dylan is the other doc's son surely? Otherwise , what would be the point?

CassandrasCastle · 18/01/2020 11:16

@bumblenbean me too re. the David Tennant porn with fake penises 🙈
I am rubbish at working things out so feel as much in the dark as ever at the end of episode 2 - Tom is coming across so horribly though that it CAN'T be him surely...but I don't want it just to be some random. Or Kate.
Anyway, the scenery is making me homesick for Scotland

Still so many unanswered questions as to the murder.

I think this series would probably best binge watched as the relevant details are being revealed very slowly.

I'm not sure how much we can trust what we are being shown at the moment. I have a feeling that we're going to get yet another perspective in episode 3.

We got quite a lot of information on the relationships but very few details on the crime itself.

So what did we learn from this episode?

Tom is controlling and manipulative- he generally seems like a piece of work.
He had sex with both Sacha and Jess and apparently Kate knew about it.
Sacha said that it broke up their friendship and Jess said that she thought Kate knew about what happened based on something Kate said to her. Did Tom tell her?

Jess and Kate had a very close friendship- the 2 of them unhappy and supporting each other- Jess with her struggles to conceive and Kate is very unhappy and depressed.

With Kate we are being led to believe that's because of Charlotte but could be because of her relationship with Tom.

Jess and Tom acted as though it was a common occurrence Kate getting blind drunk.

The car accident- Kate had a pending court date for drunk driving . Tom dismissing this as a real issue.
Any injuries suffered must have been minor as it wasn't mentioned by the detective.

As to the crime itself it was quite frustrating how few details we learned.

Tom said when they got home after the dance Kate went upstairs with the girls and he was downstairs for 10-15 minutes

When he went upstairs the girls were in bed with their eyes closed

He indicated that they were dead and suggested Kate was responsible.

He didn't give any details here. How did they die, did he check, did he try and save them?

Why didn't he call for help?

How did things proceed from there?

How were he and Kate injected? How did the fire start?

So on the crime itself we're not that much further forward.

We still don't have the toxicology reports or the post mortem results.

He did accuse Kate which we suspected he would based on his statement at the end of episode 1- "what did she do?"

Emily was running in the woods which we knew from episode 1 from the pine needles. We don't know why she was there .

Dylan mentioned Emily in the woods that he was running and fell over
I couldn't understand what Dylan said- I needed to use subtitles. He said he Tom caught up with her.

Then we see the scene of Kate catching up with her.

I still got the impression that Kate was trying to protect her.

CheekyFucker · 18/01/2020 11:43

I think Jess is asking what Kate said at the end to try to make sense of why she would do this. I think it is a natural question to ask.

A medic would inject between the toes as it would be really hard to see the site. Injecting with insulin is a hard to trace way of killing someone apparently. The two dots on each inner elbow was bizarre. Why two dots?

Juanmorebeer · 18/01/2020 11:56

I have been watching since last week but new to the thread here are my thoughts and predictions.

Tom is an abusive wanker and Kate drinks because of his controlling abuse but his abuse includes feeding her drink to keep the cycle going. He forced the drink driving to happen giving her the large wine on the beach she gulped then picking an argument and telling her to go and take the kids.

His 'look what I have to put up with' in the house was really sinister.

He puposefully sleeps with her friends so that she will fall out with them and therefore have noone to confide in about her shit life.

I think the padlock thing was done by Kate to protect Emily as she is a serial sleepwalker and keeps escaping at night and she had enough of chasing her. I think she got out to the woods then when they got back she locked all the girls in so the police man couldn't open the door in the fire.

I do think policeman has bribed the young lad to fabricate his statement about the woods to frame Tom as he is bitter about the cheating.

I loved episode 1 but found ep 2 a bit annoying really. I will continue with it as invested now but not sure if I think it is good or not.

CheekyFucker · 18/01/2020 11:59

@Juanmorebeer a padlock is extreme, and there were three kids in that room. Plus the keys were in the garbage. If she was concerned about sleepwalking she would put an alarm at most on the bedroom door.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/01/2020 12:04

I wondered whether what we're seeing is an unreliable narrative? Agree that Tom clearly is abusive and yet I'm sure he's not the killer.

Frazzled2207 · 18/01/2020 12:54

I'm properly invested.
Also googled where the beach scene was as it looked so beautiful. Is south west coat of scotland, not far from Prestwick.

However am irrationally irritated by Jess. Does she have a job? What is she doing there as she is the only one with a non-Scottish accent. Would be unusual to be a stay at home step parent but not impossible i'm sure. She is implicated somehow I think. I think she's absolutely beautiful though!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/01/2020 12:55

Jess is a teacher.

Frazzled2207 · 18/01/2020 12:59

Ah right for a teacher she seems to have quite a lot of spare time. Perhaps the "current" action takes place in August holidays, that probably makes sense then as she seems to have an awful lot of time on her hands.

hazandduck · 18/01/2020 13:13

I agree Juan I found that seen really upsetting when Kate was crying “I don’t want to feel like this any more.” Growing up with an alcoholic parent I saw similar scenes in real life, that was well acted and directed, if hard to watch.

hazandduck · 18/01/2020 13:13

*scene sorry not seen!
