What is going on with Mother Mildreds make up?

It’s dragging on far too long. Fast forward to 1976 and the move to Birmingham please! I’m not sure how much midwifery they did in the 1970s.

This is a nice read.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/01/2020 20:10

Oh come on, men would never have been allowed to stay in a convent in the 1960's. I don't think it'd be allowed today!

Pigeon fanciers lung?

And will this be the suitors for Val and Trixie?

Saucery · 26/01/2020 20:25

Psittacosis

Nurse Crane is putting up with no nonsense.

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/01/2020 20:28

Yes psitticosis was my thought.

Saucery · 26/01/2020 20:34

I am feeling bloody old, watching Phil Daniels as an ageing pigeon fancier! Shock

Toddlerteaplease · 26/01/2020 20:38

Mr benson will die, and Fred and Reggie will take on his birds.

OP posts:
CaptainMyCaptain · 26/01/2020 20:46

We were on the right lines - it was the pigeons.

Saucery · 26/01/2020 20:53

There’s no getting a heavily signposted niche illness past us

Toddlerteaplease · 26/01/2020 20:54

At least smug dr was at a loss though!

“Does he ever stop?”

Not as long as his wife writes the script, no.....

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/01/2020 21:01

So are Val and Trixie not getting their doctors?

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 26/01/2020 21:01

I was thinking the same Saucery Grin

AppleKatie · 26/01/2020 21:01

🤣 ageing pigeon fancier came round awfully quickly didn’t he?

Doctors came and went before I’d even learnt who they all were. Very rushed.

WinterHoliday · 26/01/2020 21:02

What was the point of having four doctors, two who never said a word?!

I love Call the Midwife - it's my favourite tv show but I have to admit this series isn't really living up to the previous ones. The last few episodes have been very bitty and I feel like I don't really care about most of the characters whereas before I would get really involved in the stories.

I'm glad we saw Trixie at AA but that was just one small scene, it could have been part of a bigger storyline. The episode was all over the place.

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 26/01/2020 21:07

I take it Helen George was pregnant during filming? There's a lot of baggy tops going on.

BestIsWest · 26/01/2020 21:11

Didn’t realise pigeon fancier was Phil Daniels. I had such a teenage crush on him

Call the Midwife.
SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 26/01/2020 21:12

What?! They introduce 4 new characters which could potentially be quite interesting & then suddenly they are off?? Why only for one episode? I was hoping at least one midwife might have gout together with one of them.

5foot5 · 26/01/2020 21:12

Oh I think Dr McNulty will be back (the nice one) and I hope this is a romance for Valerie. Dr Turner wants to take on a locum. Who better than the humble hound doctor who spotted the pigeon lung thingy and shares a similarly modest upbringing. Dr McNulty admires Doctor Turner and will be keen to work with him.

Mark my words we have not seen the last of that young fella.
Go for it Val!

woodhill · 26/01/2020 21:12

It was full of cliches.

We had Del Boy, carry on dr etc.

There was actually some soundtrack this week

Interesting use of bright colours

5foot5 · 26/01/2020 21:14

Young doctor not hound doctor! I didn't mean to imply he was a vet

BirdieFriendReturns · 26/01/2020 21:14

Please can we skip ahead to the 1970s and the nuns moving to Birmingham?

Elderflower14 · 26/01/2020 21:19

Two thoughts... That "newborn" baby was bloody huge!! 🤯 🤯 🤯 🤯 🤯
Also they didn't finish the story of the young couple properly. She was crying and then they were cuddling as a couple on the sofa! 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔

I never entirely trust Violet and I’m not sure why. Wasn’t she resistant to Reggie joining them at the beginning? Maybe that’s why, but I’ve only been watching it for 3 years or so.
........

Only for five minutes, Saucery. She always liked Reggie but wondered if she could cope, felt he needed more care than she was able to give. I think a lot of people would feel like that at first, fear of the unknown. She certainly grew to love him quite quickly.

Bluerussian · 26/01/2020 21:26

I loved it tonight. I even thought Dr Turner was quite dishy!

Am sincerely hoping we haven't seen the last of at least one of those young doctors. The one who delivered the baby with Valerie.

Can't wait for next week. However we are bound to have something really sad or tragic in store as this week's was not.
