Whilst it is a gentle programme, it doesn't shy away from the gritty bits.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/01/2020 09:04

I agree Saucery and SoupDragon.

Saucery · 20/01/2020 09:07

Agree, SoupDragon and there will be women today suffering quietly with varying degrees of the same sort of injury and I hope that encouraged them to see it as something that can be helped.

Mrsjayy · 20/01/2020 09:09

That was very graphic bet we were all wincing Shock

Saucery · 20/01/2020 09:17

Rarely an episode goes by where I don’t wince tbh, MrsJayy Grin

Mrsjayy · 20/01/2020 09:24

True trueGrin

SoupDragon · 20/01/2020 10:03

"Large episiotomy with infected stitches" had me shifting uncomfortably in my seat!!

SoupDragon · 20/01/2020 10:04

And the wincing of the woman as Phyllis had a good rummage feeling for the fistula! A nice little touch in the acting there.

Mrsjayy · 20/01/2020 10:06

That was a right rummage i was feeling a bit clammy Dd was horrified !

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 20/01/2020 10:28

Oh I forgot, I meant to add it onto earlier discussions about where people were born and then it completely slipped my mind...

My mum and dad were both born in the same week in the same town, in 1961. Both similar backgrounds - parents also both from the same town, both sets of parents were living with their parents while waiting for housing (which they eventually got within a few streets of one another). My dad was my nan's first born and born at home (well, nan's house), yet my mum was her mum's second born, and born in the maternity hospital.

SoupDragon · 20/01/2020 10:43

Dd was horrified

My DD is so not ready for Call the Midwife 😂😂

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/01/2020 10:47

Can you imagine the headlines if a baby was delivered in a lift these days? It would all be about broken NHS and the horror of it... Not about the bravery and skill of mother and midwife.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/01/2020 10:49

Also I think Trixie looked like she forgot her trousers... Were hemlines really that short? I though Val's looked nice.

SoupDragon · 20/01/2020 11:04

I thought Trixie's was shockingly short! Val's seemed the right length - eyebrow raisingly short but not "show your knickers" short.

SoupDragon · 20/01/2020 11:07

I just googled "1960s clothing" images and there was a fair amount of teal/blue 😂

Mrsjayy · 20/01/2020 11:25

My DD is so not ready for Call the Midwife 😂😂

I see it as a learning tool Grin

Mrsjayy · 20/01/2020 11:26

I thought Trixie's outfit was hotpants was it a skirt ?

Clawdy · 20/01/2020 12:43

They did look a bit like hotpants, but nobody wore those till much later in the sixties and early seventies, so not sure!

SoupDragon · 20/01/2020 12:46

Didn't Violet mention a "kick pleat" when doing the commentary? I think it was a skirt/dress.

Mrsjayy · 20/01/2020 12:48

Bless trixie probably thought she was being edgy the wasp chewing ladies of Poplar just were not ready for so much leg !

SoupDragon · 20/01/2020 13:18

Her hat was ridiculous though.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/01/2020 13:22

However wealthy Trixie is supposed to be, I just don't buy it that she would be that fashion-forward living with nuns in the East End. It's not as if she's living in Mayfair or Chelsea, is it? And surely, she would know that it would offend the nuns and elders to wear a dress so short?

Mrsjayy · 20/01/2020 13:23

It was daft my mum used to have a washing basket just like it!

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 20/01/2020 13:24

Didn't val have to wear a swimming costume in the beauty contest though? Weird views about legs that I don't understand at all 😄

Mrsjayy · 20/01/2020 13:25

Bit like this 😀
