on tv now?

OP posts:
Peaseblossom22 · 21/10/2019 17:24

This is where William has it right , he has followed the Queen’s example of giving them just enough but retaining a sense of mystery . The monarchy can only survive if there is a sense that the monarch is slightly otherworldly .

Unlike Charles and Diana who massively overshared , Charles has therefore lost his dignity we know far too much about him and don’t want to know more ! Meghan and Harry are going down the same route. They need to retreat and not to talk about retreating , just do it .

Peaseblossom22 · 21/10/2019 17:26

I thought Harry and Meghan were funded by Prince Charles vis the Duchy of Cornwall not from the civil list

Abraid2 · 21/10/2019 17:35

Sara Latham is Meghan and Harry's New PR Manager. Worked for Hillary Clinton's Campaign.

Probably very good but tone-deaf on British tabloids and what it means to be a Royal over here.

purpleme12 · 21/10/2019 17:35

I do agree with Peaseblossom that William has it just right in that respect

Blingandrings · 21/10/2019 17:42

Yes Sara Latham isn’t doing much to improve things at all. It’s a completely different world she’s dealing with. I think M sees herself as a sort of First Lady. Not the same thing at all.

billysboy · 21/10/2019 17:51

Live by the sword and die by it !

If you dont want the media getting involved with all your life then dont court them for any aspect , charity work etc

The pair of them think they can turn it on and off to suit but it doesnt work like that and it naive to think the press wont sit and blow smoke up ur ass when they want something and will make it up if you wont give it

MissEliza · 21/10/2019 17:59

I agree they're making the mistake of oversharing, just like Charles and Diana. I think talking about personal stuff in the documentary completely overshadowed the tour. If they care so much about their good causes, why shift the spotlight to them? I keep thinking about those poor young women doing self defence classes because of the threat of rape and violence where they live and comparing it to MM feeling 'vulnerable'. I'm not saying her feelings aren't valid but she's in a far better position than those women. Maybe she could have let them be the focus. This documentary will be shown all over the world and the talking point will be poor Harry and Meghan, not the various causes they were supposed to highlight. I'm sure they could have predicted that when they chose to discuss themselves.

TellItLikeItReallyIs · 21/10/2019 18:03

I think she’s an average actress playing the biggest role she’ll ever have.

The whole “I said to H... (looks up from under eyelashes and laughs coyly)... oh that’s what I call him”... was so unnatural, the whole thing seemed, to me, scripted form start to finish. I can imagine her rehearsing it.

I agree. To me it all seemed so fake and disingenuous. Especially the bit about no tabloids in the USA and from an actress as well - ie. someone used to courting publicity for her career.

purpleme12 · 21/10/2019 18:07

I think they opened up because they thought it would endear the public more to them, after everything that's been said

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 21/10/2019 18:22

Gogglebox will be good this week😉

Hey1256 · 21/10/2019 18:29

@MissEliza I agree

To be successful in the media I think you have to upkeep a sense of mysteriousness about yourself.

Even though we know everyone is human but we want to believe some of us are different which is why we put the rich and famous on the pedestal we do. It's almost like escapism for normal people.

If we look historically at famous people in general, it's the mysterious elusive ones generally that are likeable and we have more respect for, not the ones that talk about and air their feelings and thoughts and let us into their emotional troubles and dramas. It never ends well when they do this.

Legomadx2 · 21/10/2019 18:48

The Great British Public just don’t like confident clever women with opinions who hold their heads up and consider themselves the equal of their royal husband.

What ‘public’ are you talking about. Daily Mail or Liberal left. Because the Daily Mail readers like an opinionated gobby mare see Katie Hopkins or Liz what’s her face and the liberal left love a confident clever one.

Totally agree @Leflic

This couple need to bore off. So insensitive whining about their gilded lives when they're surrounded by children with legs blown off, abject poverty. Get a grip!

I was the same age as Harry when my DF died, and unlike him, we were much poorer as a result, had to move house, etc etc. I am not still whining about it years later - I picked myself up and got on with it.

These two need a reality check, but anyone who doesn't dance to their tune is swiftly cut out, so no-one's going to give them one.

MrsJoshNavidi · 21/10/2019 18:58

Am I allowed to say that Harry grows more like James Hewitt each time I see anything of him.

Harry looks very much like his paternal grandfather, and he has similar mannerisms to Prince Charles. Same colouring as D of E too. William takes after the Spencers.

Blingandrings · 21/10/2019 19:10

Diana met James Hewitt after she had had Harry!

CallmeAngelina · 21/10/2019 20:09

Nonsense - he looks nothing LIKE the DofE, and Philip had fair hair, not ginger. Mannerisms are often learned or subconsciously copied, so not relevant. And William has that Windsor jaw - looks very much like Prince Michael of Kent, and his son Lord Frederick Windsor (who in turn looks much like Tsar Nicholas of Russia!). It is Harry who takes after the Spencers, which would prove nothing about his paternity.
It has been widely reported that Diana did not meet Hewitt until long after Harry was born.

BertrandRussell · 21/10/2019 20:55

One of my nieces is very like my brother and me in speech patterns and mannerisms- she was adopted at 2 and not a blood relation at all!

BertrandRussell · 21/10/2019 20:57

But actually- that speculation must add to the complications in Harry’s head.

bellarena · 21/10/2019 21:15

I was extremely indifferent to them both before I watched this show.

I found it utterly bizarre. Why were they talking about themselves rather than the tour itself? Why was everything linked back to Diana? Why were they always close to tears? What was with the dramatic sad music?

Why oh why do they have it in their heads that the press are out to get them? They do seem to court attention and then lash out when they got it.

I found Meghan Markle unbearable.

EleanorReally · 21/10/2019 21:17

I couldnt take my eyes off their noses

Hazza000 · 21/10/2019 21:22

He looks just like Prince Phillip.

bellarena · 21/10/2019 21:24

The H comment 🙄 who cares

MissEliza · 21/10/2019 21:26

Bellarena so true.

derxa · 21/10/2019 21:26

The cruel speculation about Harry's dad is disgusting

Wingedharpy · 21/10/2019 21:32

I do wonder if Harry and Meghan thought they could manage the press on their own as Meghan would have had experience in giving interviews etc given her job prior to their marriage.
Being in the UK and being a royal here is a different thing entirely to promoting your latest piece of work however and they now look like a couple who are drowning.

The other thing that crossed my mind was, Meghan probably was the more mentally robust one in the relationship, but all the guff with her father and having a new baby has made her more fragile.
So she possibly isn't in any position herself to support his mental fragility.

Gilded cage sprang to mind.

bohemia14 · 21/10/2019 21:37

I don't know if this link will work but if you look at Earl Spencer's photo on his Wikipedia page I think William looks just like him. He's definitely a Spencer. Harry looks just like Prince Philip.
