Anyone watching? Helen Hunt appears to have an entirely new face.

Yes I was thinking that. I thought she was Penelope Keith at first.

Namechange3007 · 29/09/2019 21:44

She was really attractive and now just looks strange. Really sad!

Blimey is that who it is! I thought I recognised her and the voice but just couldn't place her.

100PercentThatBitch · 29/09/2019 21:51

@HeavyChopping

Thank you! I was like is THAT Penelope Keith?! It can't be?!

I started this after 9 but like it so far, like that it's a mix of stories

Chickenpie9 · 29/09/2019 21:57

It’s quite good enjoy the mixture of stories and so far it’s not been too cliched

JumpyLiz · 29/09/2019 21:58

I'm liking it.

I'm heartened to see Helen Hunt, Leslie Mann and Sean Bean. I mean, he can't do an accent other than S Yorks for shit, but apart from that, he can act anyone else off the screen.

HeavyChopping · 29/09/2019 22:00

Promising start, I thought.

Crinkle77 · 29/09/2019 22:09

I was a bit bored. Not sure if I'll watch again next week.

Wizzbangpop · 29/09/2019 22:14

I really liked it. Yy to Helen hunt to looking like Penelope Keith.

Think I’ve finally found a decent drama to get my teeth into. Want to start reading about the start of WW2 from the polish perspective. I know a little about it but not a lot

Clawdy · 29/09/2019 22:59

I'm enjoying it, but finding it confusing in parts. Some of those young male actors look a bit similar! Couldn't see why Kasia didn't get on the train, and bring the little boy with her. Either way, there would be no papers for him.

Cherrypie32 · 29/09/2019 23:07

It was ok. Harry is very handsome. I too wondered what Margot Leadbetter was doing driving the Polish/German border.

100PercentThatBitch · 29/09/2019 23:11

@Clawdy

Assumed heroics, intention to fight for Poland - it's what their father stood for, but he was a small child and therefore a risk and a burden if going undercover

UrsulaPandress · 29/09/2019 23:12

I too thought of Penelope Keith.

Really enjoyed it but this era always makes me feel slightly panicked.

100PercentThatBitch · 29/09/2019 23:14

I feel like the storyline is going to follow Kasia and/or Gregor to Auschwitz Sad

MyBeloved · 30/09/2019 00:09

I thought it was excellent, very well done with believable characters. I got quite emotional.

Tonnerre · 30/09/2019 00:11

Goodness, how could anyone feel bored by that?

Crinkle77 · 30/09/2019 07:50

Tonnerre It's not my cup of tea really and perhaps that's why I didn't enjoy it.

PuppyMonkey · 30/09/2019 09:09

I was also, not so much "bored", but I didn't engage with it at all. Thought the acting was a bit rubbish - it was all a bit naff and Downton Abbey style gloss. I didn't feel it evoked the time/historic period at all. Just modern people dressed up in costumes.

Clawdy · 30/09/2019 12:03

I did think Kasia looked far too modern, but Lois looked very much in period.

Crinkle77 · 30/09/2019 12:30

The actress who plays Lois is so beautiful.

5foot5 · 30/09/2019 13:13

My word, wouldn't Harry's mum be a MIL from hell!?

FatherFintanFay · 30/09/2019 19:14

Just catching up with this. I like how loathsome Lesley Manville's character is, but am thinking she'll "come good" by the end. Seeing how beautiful and relaxed Warsaw was before the invasion was thought-provoking too, as you tend to think of it as it was later, war-torn and ghetto-ised. It's really interesting and different to see how things were from the Polish perspective.

It's certainly much better than Sanditon on the other side, which I plan to see through to the end but in a disbelieving "how much worse can it get?" kind of way.

FLOrenze · 30/09/2019 19:41

I enjoyed it. I like how we got a little glimpse of the characters. I thought the tension in the build up was very well done.

pepsirolla · 01/10/2019 12:39

I was shocked by her face too. Why as an actor, when facial expression is crucial to you craft would you do that? Can't play the young ingenue forever and mature roles are more interesting. Lesley Manville looks much better and clearly relishing her part. Love to hear Seans Sheffield accent still there regardless whether he in Manchester or Middle Earth! Hope he doesn't die in this one! Programme so far very predictable although liked the fact they used Polish language. Will watch next one but if still predictable will probably give upWink

Frangipane · 02/10/2019 11:26

I've never come across Helen Hunt before so I don't know what she used to look like, but yes, her face was distractingly odd in this. But apart from that, I really enjoyed the first episode. For starters, Sean Bean, i would watch him watching paint drying. I like all the interwoven separate stories and am very much looking forward to the next episode, though, like FatherFintanFay, I have to see Sanditon through to its ludicrous conclusion first.
