@SoupDragon Exactly! DP finally caught up today and that’s the bit we couldn’t quite manage: editing/creating footage in real-time, unless there’s a major lag involved (the Helmand one was 5”, right?)

Have decided it’s a rogue group responsible and UK secret services are trying to solve it, hence the hush-up of case and warning DI to not step on toes.

I've no idea what's happening but it's certainly a good programme

I'm loving. I kind of wish it was on iPlayer, but it's good to wait.

It's all very confusing, but keeps me hooked. I also thought the guy in the flat looked similar to him @Shouldibeworriedaboutthis

It’s great to wait and not binge 😛😛😂😂

Why show that address on the tv. Why go to the effort

Finally caught up with episode 2 so now can read the comments. Wow, so many twists. I also thought the guy in the flat looked like Shaun. Same hairstlye and build so from a distance could look like him.

Best thing on tv in a while!

Callum Turner has a face that looks like it's been carved! He is so handsome.

The guy in the barristers flat did look a bit like Shaun. I am still intrigued as to how they ' doctored' the footage of him at the bus stop ; how did they know he'd keep his uniform on etc? Unless Hannah Roberts is in on it all?
The female detective was Robin Ellacott in the strike series last year. So far it's all good.
Roll on episode three.

The bus cctv shows nothing!
Soldiers are not allowed to wander about in uniform either ( so I'm told)

Grambler · 13/09/2019 21:34

So the CCTV showed him going in but it didnt really happen there, in real life/time. Eh? So he really went in to somewhere else.

Report
The80sweregreat · 14/09/2019 09:01

Shaun is definitely somewhere else.

How they got the footage to marry up though is still puzzling me.. how did they know that the detective would be there watching that camera at that time? How did they get the cab over to him straight away?
Someone is double crossing here.

I guess if you're into super surveillance and master manipulation of the truth, you'd have second guessed what the police team would do.

Report
The80sweregreat · 14/09/2019 10:11

They clearly wanted to throw the police off the scent by showing that particular address when it's clear now he isn't in there. I doubt he is anyway!
While they were running about getting there Shaun was taken to a different place where the cameras are not around or turned off I suppose!

The facial recognition software is amazing.
I wonder how often it's used?

The80sweregreat · 14/09/2019 10:17

They might have used a hypnotist in prison.

Darren Brown , on one of his shows, once made someone go into a bank and take out some cash and the guy had no recollection of this at all. They could be controlling him to do certain things!
It's scary if cctv can be manipulated like this as well. Makes you wonder.

Those grand white stucco mansion blocks all look the same - apart from numbers- could that make it easier to doctor the cctv? Probably not as we could see bit of surrounding street scene, but he could theoretically be at in an almost identical house just round the corner. I'm happy to just see how the technicalities pan out as more interested in what is going on than how

@The80sweregreat
Was thinking along similar lines, but surely this goes back to his time in army?? As much as you can trust anyone in these things, i am listening to the only 2 reliable people - shaun's old mate and ex. They suggest he is basically a good guy who they trust. I thought the ex's description to the police could be important - we were led to wait for the has he been violent answer, but his life story, parents dying young etc suggested a hurt insecure person susceptable to manipulalation. Was he selected for something? The toy soldier?? The safe house seemed to imply cia or us military or at least state level power and resource. Why are they so interested in shaun? My theory is he has been part of some us program in afghan. They have now got him out of the jail sentence to be neutralised or continue to be used to some end. Or it ties to the terror plot case holliday solved. No doubt this theory will be proved to be complete bullshit Smile

Watched the Manchurian Candidate the other day. Definitely makes you think!

I reckon he was at another similar London address. They switched the street and house signs and switched the cameras.

I wonder if Holiday Granger (great name!) Will find the right location. Find evidence if the switch.

Why are the people in the house American?

I think there will be high up UK police in on it.

It does make you question everything you see!

Watching this also.

Had the same thought about the bus CCTV being a plot hole

Really don't understand how they are faking the CCTV to that degree of quality in real time

Last twist - surveillance hotel seemed a bit far fetched to me.

Calling him Toy Soldier interesting - smacks of mind control

I don't trust her former boss/lover. He definitely knows more and is hiding it or has been warned off. He wants her to drop it - possibly for the sake of her career or maybe because she's going to find out more than she bargained for.

On the question of hypnosis/mind programming - if the barrister is in on all of this, what if she knew some kind of code or trigger word that prompted the struggle in the street? He certainly seems to have some kind of recollection of something happening, although it's disjointed.

Looking forward to the next twist in the tale.

I was thinking the same thing about her lover @Rhubarb01. At some point she is going to realise that she can't really say anything to anyone...

The80sweregreat · 14/09/2019 14:24

The detective's lover is suspect , but so is the police guy who is resentful of her fast track promotion. He met up with the grey haired ' spook' lady and called her out on doing something wrong ( going over his head) and doesn't seem to be very helpful.
( I always think of that actor as the horrible friend of David Brent in ' the office'!)
I think he may be a ' baddie'.

The lady cctv operator said that she could tell he wasn't going to be violent towards Hannah by his body language before the 'attack ' happened. She was surprised at what she did see.
The detective told her ' to just stick to the facts' ; maybe his in on it too? He seemed quick to shut her conversation down.

Report
purpleme12 · 14/09/2019 15:43

Mmm I don't know I think he just said that so they could get Shaun and she's the only evidence they have at the minute

Report
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/09/2019 08:40

I thought that in the first episode when the CCTV operative was watching the screen, she did initially think that their body language was 'off' (she said something to her colleague) but then relaxed as they kissed. Am I totally mis-remembering that?

The policeman shut her down because he only wanted to hear the bit that would help a potential conviction stick, not anything that would cast doubts...
