There's a two part "Someone Knows Something" true crime pod cast done on the subject to tie in with the series.

A very sad story.

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2019 18:08

I love Siobhan Finneran but she is Northern and she sounds it a lot : it keeps coming through.

It's back to that same conversation we had about that thing set in Boston with the dreadfully wrong accents.

Dialect coaches are a thing : it's a job. Do they not employ them any more? Do the y think people don't notice?

There are plenty of west Country actors.

That aside, I thought it was good but thought Little Boy Blue and the one about Levi Bellfield were better, mainly because the leads were so effective and affecting in those.

Bellasblankexpression · 06/09/2019 18:11

Saw the first episode, quite liked it.
Is the whole series up on itv player or is it week by week?

@piggywaspushed do you remember what the Levi Bellfield one was called? Didn't see it and would be interested to watch it

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2019 18:16

I've forgotten but will find out!

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2019 18:17

I am from the West Country. I don’t have a West Country accent but my dad does and I can easily slip into one.
I had a dialect coach tell me I was doing it wrong. The way she wanted me to speak was generic ‘yokel’ and far too East Anglia.

Milicentbystander72 · 07/09/2019 14:56

There's a two part podcast from "They Walk Amoung Us" about this very case. It's about 2 hours in total. Very in-depth.

The whole case is shocking. Very much a case of "What would you have done?". From listening to snippets of interviews with Martin Freeman's character I don't recall a Swindon accent. But I will admit I haven't watched the programme yet so don't know if he's trying for one!

courtlee · 09/09/2019 21:09

Anyone watching tonight? Don't want to post spoilers yet lol

southeastdweller · 09/09/2019 21:12

Yes I’m watching Smile

I really recognise the actress who played Ray Haywoods wife who is she?! Driving me mad lol.

Veterinari · 09/09/2019 21:15

@westcountrychicken
@Italiangreyhound

It’s the most recent episodes of the ‘they walk among us’ podcast, not someone knows something, and yes it’s excellent

Xmasbaby11 · 09/09/2019 21:39

Lisa Faulkner?

courtlee · 09/09/2019 21:42

@Xmasbaby11 yes thank you! Just googled her must be eastenders I recognised her from

I am really enjoying this series.

Piggywaspushed · 09/09/2019 22:34

She is probably most famous for her dreadful demise in Spooks, and for being Mrs John Torode, which was quite the scandal.

Italiangreyhound · 09/09/2019 23:25

Gripping episode.

The whole thing with the crack was so very sad.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 10/09/2019 16:31

I might give up and Google and just listen to the podcast.

The accents are ruining it for me and I don't get the connection between Imelda Staunton's situation and the missing girl's family.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 10/09/2019 18:31

This is excellent so far, it's very tense, well acted (I'm not distracted by accents). Martin Freeman is great.

soontobeanana · 10/09/2019 18:37

Mrs Pellegrino - I was confused about that, but I googled the real case and it all became clear. I won't say as it is a spoiler but it helped me understand where the programme is going.

doginthemanger · 10/09/2019 18:38

I don't get the connection between Imelda Staunton's situation and the missing girl's family.

It will become clear if you keep watching.

captainprincess · 10/09/2019 18:46

@MrsPellegrinoPetrichor it's very relevant! I'm sure it will become clear.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 10/09/2019 19:06

I'll keep watching then, I hate having to wait a whole week for the next episode,I have the memory of a gold fish!
