Seen and I enjoyed

Obv it’s on a true life story but I don’t know the ending

Not sure what the policeman did to be suspended - or why he killed his self :(

Italiangreyhound · 04/09/2019 22:23

Personally, I would not care what accent people had. It doesn't really matter to me.

I expect people in Shakespeare's time spoke in a way we may find hard to understand to our modern ear, but where I to watch a Shakespeare play it'd not bother me how they spoke.

But anyway, aside from the accents, anyone find anything interesting?

I find the guy who lived in Savernake Forest an interesting person, that he went out for snacks in the middle of the night. The Police officer found that unusual but maybe for some it would be normal. I though it was interesting he was hiding a rat in a cage in the loft, I wondered if that was a true part of the story.

I felt so sick when Imelda Staunton's character met her ex and he said their daughter was running a club in Bristol, I was just so very sad for her.

Clawdy · 04/09/2019 22:31

Blondeshavemorefun the policeman did not kill himself. He works in another profession now.

southeastdweller · 04/09/2019 22:37

I thought this was outstanding, way more intelligent than the usual ITV crap.

the policeman did not kill himself. He works in another profession now

Is this a true story ?Confused was that poetic licence then?

cyrilted · 04/09/2019 23:36

The policeman who was suspended, who Martin Freeman met for coffee, killed himself.

Italiangreyhound · 04/09/2019 23:52

cyrilted was just coming on to say that. It was DCC Ray Hayward played by John Thomson (from Cold Feet). He was accused of some sort of inappropriate behaviour, that was why he was being investigated.

linentowel · 05/09/2019 07:01

I thought it was odd that the actor who played the policeman who killed himself was who he was if that makes sense. John Thomson is such a known actor for one talking scene and a scene in his car to be killed off.

Italiangreyhound · 05/09/2019 07:57

01linentowel true but he was convincing. I felt really sorry for him. Sad

44MrsPellegrinoPetrichor yes it is a true story and that but is true too. Very tragic.

Clawdy · 05/09/2019 11:04

Sorry, thought you were talking about the Martin Freeman character killing himself. Didn't know the John Thomson character was the one who did. It's a true story, so I can only assume the JT character probably did exist.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/09/2019 13:07

@Clawdy so they haven’t followed the life events then

I did think it was unusual to have a well known actor be killed so quickly

Unless the other episodes will show him in past tense ?

Killing his self shows guilt of the misconduct he was meant to have done or it can be shame that he got accused and couldn’t see a way out

Tho wonder why the writer added a big scene that didn’t happen

If he is elsewhere now

Tonnerre · 05/09/2019 23:45

They quite regularly have big name people getting killed off quickly in Line of Duty, maybe it's just the latest thing in TV drama.

Italiangreyhound · 06/09/2019 02:38

@Blondeshavemorefun "...so they haven’t followed the life events then" and "Tho wonder why the writer added a big scene that didn’t happen"

Which life events haven't they followed/scene added? I am interested to know how much of the things presented are true to life facts.

All I know about the DCC Ray Hayward character is he is based on Deputy Chief Constable David Ainsworth, who was found hanged at his home as he faced misconduct allegations.

If you read up too much on the story you will find all the endings etc so I won't link here. I don't want to add any spoilers but just wondered which bit already shown was not in the true life events.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/09/2019 04:08

I don’t know the ending but know it’s on a true story

The man actor JOHN Thomson , in e1 we were told he was dead by hanging his self

But then @Clawdy said he didn’t die and now isn’t a policeman and does something different in real life

Tonnerre · 06/09/2019 07:17

@Clawdy was talking about the Martin Freeman character, not Ray Hayward.

PancakeAndKeith · 06/09/2019 07:41

Clawdy said nothing of the sort.
She said that she didn’t realise that it was the disgrace policeman who died.
She then said that as it is based on a true story then perhaps he did.

LadyKylieShagworthy · 06/09/2019 09:13

I don't get why people get so annoyed about accents in TV dramas. Not everyone has a accent from where they live.
People move around, pick up other accents🤷‍♀️
Why can't someone living in Swindon have a Yorkshire accent.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 06/09/2019 09:22

The problem is when actors do bad accents, it was the Wiltshire accents that were so ropey,at one point I thought Siobhan whashername was meant to be Welsh 😂 Of course people move around, that's not the issue people were complaining about.

rosegoldwatcher · 06/09/2019 10:20

I enjoyed (?) the first episode.
I don't recall seeing an ITV drama with quite so many well known (expensive) actors all together! I wonder if, knowing that the story is based on a real life crime, some of them may have done the job for a fee lower than they might usually have warranted.

Tonnerre · 06/09/2019 13:46

Clawdy said nothing of the sort.
She said that she didn’t realise that it was the disgrace policeman who died.

Huh?

She said initially "the policeman did not kill himself. He works in another profession now." Someone then asked whether this was poetic licence as she thought it was a true story, to which Clawdy responded "Sorry, thought you were talking about the Martin Freeman character killing himself."

So she absolutely did say she was talking about the Martin Freeman character, not the John Thomson one.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 06/09/2019 13:51

So she absolutely did say she was talking about the Martin Freeman character, not the John Thomson one

Yes,you can see the confusion!ConfusedGrin

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/09/2019 15:46

Lol. I’m confused

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/09/2019 15:49

Did you not watch it then ?

Boss came up to him and said he had been found hanging - think in garage

Not sure how you got JOHN and Martin mixed up

Tonnerre · 06/09/2019 17:13

Who are you addressing, Blondes? I didn't get anyone mixed up.

PancakeAndKeith · 06/09/2019 17:39

So she absolutely did say she was talking about the Martin Freeman character, not the John Thomson one.

Yes. I know. That is why I said She said that she didn’t realise that it was the disgrace policeman who died. the disgraced policeman was John Thompson. So by saying the policeman did not kill himself. He works in another profession now. she was talking about Martin’s character in error.
