Is anyone else watching?
Couldn't see another thread for it. I'm hoping it's going to be good.

OP posts:
Disfordarkchocolate · 02/10/2019 21:02

I'm glad I didn't watch if Cassie won. Feeling glum.

Slaymill · 02/10/2019 21:05

Frank was robbed throws feather filled cushions at the judges.

Kinraddie · 02/10/2019 21:32

I really think Frank was the better designer overall throughout the competition, and he was right when he said he is more commercial. Cassie's lounge and master were not very nice at all. Nursery was great. Frank's lounge was really attractive, and his master was lovely.
I don't understand why people say it's a fix though. Who really is going to bother fixing these types of shows?

BadnessInTheFolds · 02/10/2019 21:34

Really disappointed by the result, I felt sure it was going to Frank. Cassie's nursery was great but the rest of it I didn't like.

Those tiny 'shelves' in Cassie's living room were totally impractical. Especially with a toddler imminent!

I loved Frank's living room but the weird gap under the book shelves was unforgivable and it really annoyed me that he put the books with the spines to the wall so you couldn't see what they were Hmm

DH also firmly believes it's a set up Grin I'd be interested to see her hotel bar

Would have loved to see what Ju would have done!

360eyes · 02/10/2019 21:44

What a piss poor final. Wasn't overly impressed with either, but did prefer Frank's. It would have been so much better with a Ju/Nikki/Kyle final.

Unless I'm missing something? Is Cassie's Steptoe & Son chic in now? I think she would happily move in to one of those near derelict houses on Homes under the Hammer and feel smug that the house doesn't need any work.

Although I like Michelle and she is probably a brilliant designer and she does seem like a nice person, I think she is a terrible judge. She has been right sometimes, but has never looked at the big picture and what contestant can really take on and succeed at a large contract. If I was the hotel chain I would be quite nervous now and if I was the programme producers I'd be a bit pissed off too, as I'm not sure many viewers would take the programme seriously now.

360eyes · 02/10/2019 22:13

Sorry, that was a badly written, rambling post there!

In her defence, I think Cassie was quite a gracious winner in the end. Not keen on her style, but I do think it might have been a bit wrong of Frank to win, given that he spent the first part of the series slagging everyone else off.

HelloYouTwo · 02/10/2019 23:24

Well that was underwhelming. Neither of them really knocked it out of the park did they.

Frank can’t plan or budget or work to time
and his inability to measure properly is shocking. Cassie met her brief largely though her client still wasn’t thrilled with the bedroom colour. I’d have been less thrilled still by the granny crochet lights and manky curtains. I didn’t hear anything about designing for a baby in the living room in the brief but may have missed it. But not unfair to assume the pram would be in the hall and you don’t need bespoke living room storage for babies, they had tons of space to add in what they’d need later. Liked the look of the nursery but as if anyone is going to hang up babygros on hangers. None of it was especially practical. Frank’s master bedroom only had one bedside light. It feels as though the judges pick on tiny details for one contestant but not for the next.

MoobaaMoobaa · 03/10/2019 09:27

After last week I wanted cassie to win.

But think neither of them pulled it out the bag this week.

I like some of Frank's designs over the weeks, but really hated his bitchy arrogance especially in the lodge week.

I hated cassies Victoriana hotel room, and thought she should have gone that week. But loved some of her later work.

I use to love the interior design challenge, and agree some of those 'amateurs' were far better. The series worked so much better than this one, which I just haven't enjoyed half as much.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 03/10/2019 09:30

Neither were very good I can only guess Cassie won as she would be more organised than Frank and was more original. I've seen everything Frank did elsewhere. Design is about settling trends not following them. I really don't like Cassies style though. It looks old, dull and dustyGrin

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2019 12:49

I disagree that design is necessarily about being avant garde, at the moment for the future (if we want a decent one for our children and grandchildren) we should be rycycling , repairing etc. and not ripping up perfectly good tiles like frank did in that kitchen. Also his bedroom wall paper was vile! I'd have painted over it immediately if I'd been the client!

Cassie's wasn't perfect but at least she cared a bit about the above.

Cocolapew · 03/10/2019 14:09

Just caught up. Kyle or Ju should have won Grin
Cassies bedroom was horrible, it's was like a 1970's throwback. Awful.

360eyes · 03/10/2019 17:18

I haven't read anywhere or talked to anyone that think Cassie or Frank were worthy finalists. Most people are a bit baffled by the result and want Interior Design Challenge back instead! To be fair, I didn't watch IDC much and only saw a few episodes, but I think it was better that the opinion of person who owned the space that was made over seemed to count more. I think having one judge isn't the best idea.

DesertIslandPenguin · 03/10/2019 19:34

I'm yet another member of the Ju should have won camp. And I want The Great Interior Design Challenge back too!

dillite · 03/10/2019 19:39

I couldn't be bothered to watch last night as I dislike both Frank and Cassie but I watched it today. I hate to say it, but I think that Cassie's was better simply because she seemed to listen to the clients more than Frank did. What the hell were those tiny bookshelves? I also hated his grey lounge furniture. HATED Cassie's bedroom though, it looked like it would smell all musty and would have moths living in it. I don't even hate boho style as such, I just hate that dusty peach/ pink colour that she painted it in. Also, I liked her wall panels in the lounge. Either way, Ju and Kyle are the real winners for me.

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2019 20:09

Nah Ju made all her projects look like tea shops !! Whatever they were hairdressers or restaurants they were twee and SHE didn't listen to the clients either (mind you that was a general failing).

They didn't have enough time for their projects, it's so annoying , everything is being spoiled by the producers thinking we all want some sort of dramatic nonsense. Mind you Frank gave us enough silly drama, I'm glad he didn't win just because of his sense of ENTITLEMENT !! The way he begged the judges , it served him right. Cassie was much more sensible.

JocastaJones · 03/10/2019 23:03

Read Cassie’s Instagram and she said about IDC something like, I never thought I’d do something like this but so glad I said yes. Which makes it sound like she was approached to be on the programme rather than applying for it. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if that was the case. They need to try and ensure they have at least one credible winner in the bag.

ppeatfruit · 04/10/2019 08:33

That is VERY interesting Jocasta say no more!

360eyes · 04/10/2019 11:33

JocastaJones

Credible winner? I think some of the posters on here would disagree with the credible bit. Interesting point though.

I suppose Cassie was unique and having something different to offer is important, but I'm guessing around 90% of people don't like her style. I suppose in the grand scheme of things that's still a lot of people. However, most of the posters on forums I've read have not agreed with the judging and the overall winner.

I do hope that they have learnt a lot from this series as it has really good potential, and I enjoyed looking at design in a commercial sense, as well as in peoples homes. I hope they sort out the budget, brief and judging inconsistencies, and the amount time given for a project. Most first series of these sorts of programmes are always a bit rough round the edges to begin with, so hopefully the next series will go down much better. Will prob give the first couple of episodes of the next series a go (if there is one) then decide from there.

JocastaJones · 04/10/2019 12:39

I think she’s credible. She’s worked in interiors for a long time, albeit not as an interior designer as such. She clearly has an understanding of the field. Some of the other contestants had only ever worked on their own homes and were total amateurs.

ppeatfruit · 04/10/2019 13:30

Yes and she believes in upcycling, the way our world is going there should a hell of a lot of it around NOW . To save the huge carbon footprint of all that new stuff that is often shipped half way across the world. to add to the damage. Without all the plastic it's wrapped in.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 04/10/2019 15:59

As much as I prefered Ju's style, it relied too much on wallpaper and textiles which she just bought. When she did try to be inventive or add a bit of design it didn't work. Nikki was the strongest for me.

Cocolapew · 04/10/2019 16:20

They need to stop the groups if there's a next series, that just didn't work at all.
Alternatively they can just bring back Design Challenge, but with Sophie not the Queen of bland.

Apparentlychilled · 04/10/2019 16:36

I enjoyed it, even though Nikki should have won, the budgets and timescales were impractical and no one seemed to worry about any regulations eg commercial furniture being suitable and fabrics being FR treated.

Does anyone know how Cassie's bar turned out? The filming finished a year ago so I'm guessing her commercial job will have wrapped up by now.

mydogisthebest · 04/10/2019 16:55

Only just watched the final and I shouted at the tv when Cassie won. Ridiculous. No way did she deserve to win.

From the comments the judges made I felt sure it would be Frank. His designs were much better than hers.

I'd love to see the mess she made of the bar
