Is anyone else watching?
Couldn't see another thread for it. I'm hoping it's going to be good.

I've found Lens Barbers on Instagram & that all looks to be kept the same, also found Jelly Beanz, but can't see much of the backgrounds as they've cropped them.

Edge - @edgehairdressing97 looks to be the same aswell!

Does anyone know what next week's challenge is?

EttyG · 26/09/2019 18:55

Maybe it's been poor because of the lack of time they get with the client. Although I'd love to know what the briefs were for each, given the insight we had with Nicky's blog on previous weeks.

Can anyone explain why the basket weave was a difficult job?

Goatrider · 26/09/2019 21:16

Next week www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0008zfx

HelloYouTwo · 26/09/2019 22:00

I honestly thought Cassie did the best job this week. Proper mirrors, a real design idea, good old school barber’s appeal. Practically the curtains may not have been great but Ju’s mirrors were ridiculous and that bench looked awful. Who wants to sit in the middle of the salon looking at the backside of the hairdressers, and takes any privacy from the people having their hair done. There’s a reason the waiting area is in the window or a corner of most (all?) hair salons! Frank’s looked sterile and the jelly bean thing was ludicrous. His job as a designer should have been to have steered the client away from looking like a sweetshop.

Given that Cassie met her client in person and the others just Skyped (did you see the tiny screen that Ju had!) I wonder if that made a difference?

Babybel90 · 26/09/2019 22:39

Ok I’ve just watched it, as usual I thought Cassie’s was god-awful, I wouldn’t go in because it looked like it would smell of must and joss sticks (and possibly damp). She has one design, she was just lucky she got paired with a barbers that wanted that particular look. And what is with all the green? I thought Franks looked naff and will date very quickly and Ju’s would have been better if she’d had enough time to do a proper finish, the wallpaper was fantastic, it was light, airey and clean. I would have liked to have seen Nicki do this one because I think she would have done something very lux and stylish.

I’m now convinced that Cassie is either the judge woman’s secret love child or she has some serious dirt on her, there’s no other explanation!!!

CoolCarrie · 26/09/2019 23:56

Frank reminds me of Frank Spencer, gormless

ppeatfruit · 27/09/2019 10:19

Yes Cool and he has no idea of expenses and practicality. Those lightshades will get filthy quickly I wouldn't fancy cleaning them! He was also very impatient with the poor electrician\light fitter who was trying to help him fgs!!!!

360eyes · 27/09/2019 14:13

Dropping back in.

Just had a thought: is it just me, or has Michelle turned a blind eye to a lot of Frank's mistakes? He has made a few and he seems to have got off much more lightly than others. I think despite Ju having a weaker week, Frank's salon wasn't finished and confused in places (the jelly bean transfers). I agree that Cassie got lucky and she did well. I think if she got a hair salon, rather than a traditional barbers she would have done much worse. She has adapted her style on some occasions, when she did the university halls, but there is still an air of grot about her style and I think she would have been reluctant to let go of it. I do like her lounge in her house though. She does seem to have the space in her house to go for dark walls.

As always with these programmes there is a lot of judge bias. Ju has won us all over as her style is a bit eclectic, but quite fresh and airy, and she just seems a lot more humble and self aware than some of the other contestants. I think she is most likely to do well from this than any of the others as she would be much easier to work with. I get the impression that if I had a brief of "create a light, airy space for contemplating oneself", Cassie would still paint the walls pond scum green and hang taxidermied badgers and tea stained lace on the walls. Frank has probably took on board much more. He seems a bit more receptive to criticism now and despite him being a but snarky in the beginning about other designers (sometimes justified), he seems more likeable now.

hilaryguineapig · 27/09/2019 20:42

Gutted at the result.

NCTDN · 27/09/2019 22:03

I'm actually in agreement with the result. Ju used tiny mirrors, didn't do any lighting and the middle seating looked so uncomfortable! I didn't think I'd like the barbers but the overall look worked. I liked frank colours and ideas. My first thought when they said hairdressers was lighting and at least he did that.

BadnessInTheFolds · 28/09/2019 22:17

Dropping back in now DH is home from his work trip and we've caught up.

I was genuinely shocked by the result, I've loved Ju throughout. I thought her salon looked great, loved the bird wallpaper. I do agree the bench looked uncomfortable.

I liked the washroom in Frank's design (albeit unfinished) but agree with others that the front area looked like any other hairdressers. He thought about light and mirrors but I couldn't really see what design elements were included.

DH is convinced that judges wanted Cassie in the final and that's why she had a brief that played to her strengths while the others very much didn't. I think it was her best design so far but not a fan of the bile colour on the walls. I agree the curtains were very impractical.

Missing Nicky's blog for the inside scoop!

£3000 seems like a low budget for everything they had to do!

Davros · 28/09/2019 23:54

Sadly I didn't like Ju's work this week. I couldn't stop seeing the wires hanging down from the light fittings. I liked her though. I agree that Cassie has been carried and I don't like her style. I like Frank and hope he wins

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/09/2019 11:34

Missing Nicky's blog for the inside scoop!

Frank has a blog post coming tomorrow! I get the feeling from his comments, that he had a lot of elements to try include that weren't included in the edits, so will be interested to read what he has to say about this weeks challenge.

OP posts:
EttyG · 29/09/2019 12:07

Has Frank done a blog for every week? Do you have a link?

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/09/2019 12:36

www.franknewbold.com/journal/posts/interior-design-masters-episode-4-student-studios-leicester/

I haven't read his other posts, so he might have done, I've usually just read Nicki's, but might give his a read now.

OP posts:
NCTDN · 29/09/2019 13:32

Who do you think they'll pick as the other designer to help them in the final?

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/09/2019 14:01

Who do you think they'll pick as the other designer to help them in the final?

I think Nicki might pick Ju.

OP posts:
BadnessInTheFolds · 29/09/2019 21:14

Oh I missed that they get to bring a friend back to help!
If pick Kyle as he was a good builder so you get extra skills!

Thanks for the blog link, off to have a look now...

BadnessInTheFolds · 30/09/2019 08:04

He doesn't seem to have written one for every week, or did I miss something?!

He comes across better in the blog I think, he has the same sharp sarcasm about his own mistakes as he does for other people's

LIZS · 02/10/2019 20:20

Anyone watching the Final? Hate Frank's wallpaper and the "instagram" nursery.

DropZoneOne · 02/10/2019 20:31

I am! Don't mind Frank's wallpaper, really don't like the peach master bedroom and don't think the clients will either - it's too different from the rest of the flat and it's her style, not what they asked for.

FLOrenze · 02/10/2019 20:31

I think the time limits are ridiculous. How can they do good jobs. Such a short time.

LIZS · 02/10/2019 20:35

Naff headboard
