Has anyone else seen the first episode?

I watched all of season 1 again yesterday in preparation.

Merry Streep was really good and I love Reese Witherspoon.

I had predicted Celeste might be pregnant this series but apparently not.

Poor Ed. Madeline had a good one there and she just threw him away! Never appreciated him. His singing wasn't bad either!

Pemba · 21/06/2019 02:33

Also think it's awful that poor Ziggy has to know the circumstances of his conception. What a thing for anyone to deal with, let alone a child who can't be more than eight.

Perry's mum is probably going to suspect poor Jane now as well as Celeste. Or maybe Madeline as she seems to hate her! But she wouldn't have a clue about Bonnie. Re: Bonnie, I wonder if she has a different back story here from the book (grew up with domestic violence).

Wasn't really very sensible of Celeste to have her MIL to stay after what happened! Surely her friends could have rallied round?

Envy Legolimb, have a great trip! I once went to Big Sur, many years ago, not sure if that’s a similar area, it was beautiful.

The Elvis numbers in that finale were great, several of the actors are obviously good singers.

Clawdy · 21/06/2019 14:51

Pemba that is what I said earlier, that it isn't right for a small boy to know he's the product of rape. People disagreed, saying the truth is important, but I think Jane should have found another explanation. He will be traumatised.

Loopytiles · 21/06/2019 16:00

It was all around the school, and he would find out the truth eventually. Truth always best IMO.

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 21/06/2019 19:28

I agree @Loopytiles

Pemba · 21/06/2019 20:40

But how would a young child process that? They have a strong need to believe Mummy and Daddy love each other, or did once, and wanted to have them. Anything else would probably make them feel insecure. And do they even need to know such a thing as rape exists at that age?

I think the whole idea would be traumatic. Jane should have fudged it somehow. Of course Madeline is at fault for not checking that Chloe couldn't overhear.

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 21/06/2019 20:49

But Ziggy already knew that his mum didn't know who his dad was, so he was under no illusions that he was a product of love (or anything like that). I also doubt she gave him the gory details but told him in an age appropriate way (especially as he knew that 'salt' was involved so would find out eventually and not necessarily in the context of a loving conversation with his mum).

Clawdy · 23/06/2019 15:28

It's a pity they missed out her explanation, then. Not knowing who your father was, is nothing like finding out he raped your mother.

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 23/06/2019 16:01

I completely agree with that @Clawdy, just do believe that honesty is the best way in pretty much every single situation (always at an age appropriate level) no matter what as the truth always comes out and usually it's the lying that causes the most damage in the end, no matter how bad the truth was in the first place or the best intentions of the lie.

Theromanempire · 23/06/2019 22:03

Me and DH keep asking about Tom the coffee shop guy...he's totally been whitewashed out of the whole thing along with his coffee shop Hmm

Also agree with a pp about Laura Derns language - I'm not a prude by any stretch but I found it unnecessary. In particular, the comment about her sitting on her husband's face when he said something totally unconnected to sex...just seemed there purely for shock value.

And yes, as a huge fan of Young Sheldon, we find it so disconcerting watching Ziggy...such a good actor though!

franke · 24/06/2019 21:55

Why have they dyed Ziggy's hair? And so badly. Is it just a clumsy attempt to differentiate him from the twins?

Enjoyed epi 3.

Clawdy · 24/06/2019 22:07

Loved that closing song by the Cowboy Junkies.

legolimb · 25/06/2019 16:17

Celestes MIL is quite a piece of work. She was really not concerned about Jane's feelings at all when asking for the DNA test.

AliceRR · 25/06/2019 17:01

I’m just watching ep 3 now. She is a piece of work but then her son has just died and she suspects foul play - and rightly so - but then she doesn’t seem to want to accept the truth about him (again understandable)

MS was rude later on asking who initiated the rendez-vous(?) (can’t remember what word she used) with Perry but I do think she’s just struggling to accept what’s happened. She seems like she has some social difficulties too though, like she doesn’t know she’s being so impolite, as she was with Madeline earlier in the series.

Madeleine’s husband meeting up with Bonnie is a bit sh*tty but then she did cheat 🤷🏻‍♀️ Madeleine is my favourite though

Clawdy · 25/06/2019 19:48

I loved Madeline in the last series, she was by far my favourite character, but she's somehow different in this one. And Ed should have kept his beard!

AliceRR · 25/06/2019 22:02

Ed! I’d forgotten his name!

I don’t think this series is as good as series 1 was, so far

OP posts:
Bravelurker · 25/06/2019 22:57

I love the new sassyer Ed as Adam Scott is either playing someone a bit nerdy/ good guy or an absolute pure shit and he's convincing as both. I just fancy him a bit more when he's an arsehole Confused.

supercee · 25/06/2019 23:02

I don't know what it is but I'm finding everyone slightly more irritating. I loved Madeline last season but not so much this season and Bonnie isn't bringing much to the table. Still fancy Ed.

AliceRR · 25/06/2019 23:16

I think maybe they’re trying too hard. Last season they had a good story based on the book. I’m not sure what the plot is this season tbh other than Perry’s mother interfering and potentially causing problems. But I could be wrong and I will keep watching!

Waterandlemonjuice · 25/06/2019 23:19

I thought it was great, some laugh out loud moments - the Laura Dern school row! - and great acting
And women masturbating too, fabulous

AliceRR · 25/06/2019 23:21

It was just this episode I didn’t enjoy as much but didn’t see any women masturbating so maybe I wasn’t watching properly 🙄

🤔 i just saw Nicole Kidman, who doesnt look like Nicole Kidman anymore.

Im not feeling it this season. Theyre all more annoying and too many therapy scenes.

historysock · 26/06/2019 06:26

I really like this Season so far though not yet as dramatic as the first.the only thing that grates on me is the therapists voice. I had a counsellor like that once-she had a very specific 'therapy voice'-which I was very sure she didn't use when she popped to the shop to buy some fags...I had to stop seeing her it was so annoying! No wonder Nicole
Kidman gets the rage during her therapy sessions with this oneGrin
