Has anyone else seen the first episode?

I watched all of season 1 again yesterday in preparation.

Merry Streep was really good and I love Reese Witherspoon.

I had predicted Celeste might be pregnant this series but apparently not.

I'd heard there was definitely not going to be a season 3?

EachandEveryone · 23/07/2019 11:41

What if none of them had of seen their phone messages as they were all to busy having fun? Their phones mustve been glued to them for everyone of them to have seen the message at the same time but, thats not what they showed us?

Im too hot to think about it. I just hope someone tells Nicole enough with the surgery now.

nowifi · 23/07/2019 11:43

What phone message? I was too busy looking at my phone Grin

Clawdy · 23/07/2019 18:01

I didn't catch the phone message either?

EachandEveryone · 23/07/2019 18:33

She sent them a group text at the time one was shagging her boyfriend, one was asleep with her daughter, another about to enjoy her wedding night etc so i. Just thought it was abit unrealistic that they would all see the message and jump into their cars to the police station.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/07/2019 19:21

Maybe they were worried what she might say

Oblomov19 · 23/07/2019 19:23

Disappointing. Series 1 great. Series 2 poor.
I liked Celeste's pink suit from the back as she walked up the stairs.
Her punch was the video of Perry.
Didn't like Mary Louise's speech at the end. She was too timid and loving. Even when she was saying that Celeste was still ill!

Didn't like them all handing themselves in.

Not impressed. Angry

Whitney168 · 23/07/2019 20:14

Wasn't as gripping as the first series, but I've still loved it. To be honest, I'd watch it just for the scenery.

Meryl's performance hampered by those bloody teeth for me, but been excellent. Think Laura Dern been the actress of the series though, Renata has been outstanding.

Knittedjimmychoos · 23/07/2019 20:26

Whitney, that's what drew it to me initially, the stunning scenery. I'm hoping to do that trip soon.

Knittedjimmychoos · 23/07/2019 20:28

Meryl was stunning as the chilling Mil.

I hope someone out there is writing further Mil vehicle for her.

mikado1 · 23/07/2019 20:44

Mmm.. I enjoyed it and was happy enough, but I get annoyed when people don't do the obvious thing so I suppose I'm glad they've owned up!! Thought the court wasn't great, judge about to discuss child psychologist report and they both stand up then with their speeches, what? I wanted to hear from the psych! Also no great satisfaction re Perry's treatment by MS but the video was 'great' but also disturbing that the boys took it... Love Renata, husband unrealistically and horribly dismissive, didn't think he was a complete bastard before. Delighted about Ed and Madeline, love him.

Clawdy · 23/07/2019 20:50

Bit cruel of Bonnie to say not only did she not love him now, but had never loved him. That last bit was unnecessary, unless he had been awful to her, but I don't recall that he was. Don't remember all of the last series, though!

mikado1 · 23/07/2019 21:31

I think she just had to be honest but I agree, very harsh though I had no mass on him.

Dickybow321 · 23/07/2019 23:56

I though the court scenes between Kidman and Streep were excellent
Hmmm. I thought they were rubbish. I'm not a lawyer but surely judges don't allow people to just interject when theyre about to deliver a verdict, to launch into a soliloquy. Also, it's so unbelievable that Mary Louise would break down and admit to killing her son 🙄. Why would anyone admit to something that hadn't been proven in court? Lazy writing I thought. But it seems the masses accept this so I need to try to suspend disbelief more....this is why I'm not enjoying anything at the moment! I stopped watching Suits when MM got with whatever his name was. I couldn't believe a girl like her would go for a guy like him and I was right! She ended up with a prince! 😁

mikado1 · 24/07/2019 00:21

Admitted she killed her son? It was a car accident surely? She admitted she was distracted and in a temper at the time.

Dickybow321 · 24/07/2019 00:40

Why would she take her daughter in law to court for custody, claiming she's a negligent parent, when she caused the death of her own child for being a negligent parent? It's all too neat that it was revealed in ep 7 that ML caused the death of Perry's brother, allowing Celeste to keep the twins.

The custody battle was a stretch anyway . I tried to write it off as maybe things they do in America. It never should have happened.

People are raving about Meryl Streep in this but I think it was beneath her and can't believe she read the script and agreed to come on board.

That being said, I would love a season 3 as I love the cast, scenery and lifestyle they sell .

AliceRR · 24/07/2019 08:14

Hmmm I’ve watched the final episode and I must say I’m disappointed that there wasn’t more of a twist or revelation at the end. I’ve enjoyed the season, the cast is fantastic and I have enjoyed watching it, but it just didn’t seem to have the same purpose as season 1. I really am surprised that there wasn’t more to it. It was a bit soap opera IYSWIM? 🤔

I will still watch if there’s a season 3 though!

I enjoyed the court scenes, I was sad for Nathan, good for Renata in bashing the train set, I do think MS was fantastic and I love RW.

BedraggledBlitz · 24/07/2019 23:16

Just finished. I mostly enjoyed it, but had to Google whether I'd just seen the finale. In the course of googling I read a good newyorker article about how Bonnie's character is under explored.

If I had to critique (and I do) I'd say nicole Kidman's tendency to do whisper acting annoyed me. Plus the bloody blinky heartbeat flashbacks were overused.

Maybe she was confessing and they were just there for support although presumably there could be charges against them all for lying.

But then I would whether that would change things with Mary Louise, if she knew Celeste wasn’t the one to kill Perry? She was still complicit of course and maybe ML would still blame her.

Oblomov19 · 25/07/2019 15:37

Indeed. Celeste only just got her kids back. But MJ would love the fact that Celeste had lied, with all the others, and therefore MJ would thus then get the kids?

They all trotted off to the police station. But they haven't really thought this through, have they?

Xyzzzzz · 25/07/2019 17:32

Having binged watched the rest today. I think Renata had the best storyline along with Celeste. Loved Nicole and Meryls scenes. They were really good and amazing acting!
Bonnies storyline bores me...not sure why just didn’t feel connected to it?

EachandEveryone · 26/07/2019 10:13

They are both oscar winners so they should’ve been amazing😄 i just cant take NK seriously surely she must have the worse surgery than any of the A listers? I wonder what the reviews in America have been like?

ReeReeR · 26/07/2019 17:13

I agree. I just didn’t care as much about her. Same with Renata to a degree but there was a bit more happening there to keep us interested, I think.

legolimb · 26/07/2019 18:56

So that's it?

All tied up their own endings and then to the police station to confess?

I enjoyed this series. Especially for the scenery. I am just back from California. Didn't make it to Bixby Bridge but did spot some of the locations.
