Has anyone else seen the first episode?

I watched all of season 1 again yesterday in preparation.

Merry Streep was really good and I love Reese Witherspoon.

I had predicted Celeste might be pregnant this series but apparently not.

Me too @Waterandlemonjuice

I don't think the husbands know anything about it at all. Also, has RW finished her affair now? I can't remember how that panned out in season 1 (& believe it was additional to the book as don't remember reading it).

franke · 12/06/2019 22:17

I always thought they did know because of the way RW and her ex nodded to each other at the end of S1 as if they'd reached an understanding to protect Bonnie. But now the husbands seem unaware. Except for Laura Dern's who has apparently hit the bottle while playing with his train set.

BedraggledBlitz · 12/06/2019 22:28

Oh its marvellous! I can't really remember the first series, never mind too late to catch up.

Is ziggys mum the same actress. She looks different. I also can’t remember her name. I think I should have rewatched the first series before this one. Somehow this and The Affair have become all muddled in my elderly brain Confused

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 12/06/2019 22:56

Yes, same actress although I agree that she looks a bit different (think it's darker hair and a fringe!)

I don't think the husband's know. In the book they're there when it happens but in the show I think it's just the women made the story and stick to it.

AliceRR · 13/06/2019 10:01

It’s never too late! I watched it all again and really enjoyed it 😬

Yes Jane is played by the same person but has a weird fringe this season 🤷🏻‍♀️

I started watching the affair but got bored

In the book they're there when it happens

I don’t remember what happened in the book at all now

It’s clear they don’t know what happened from how Nathan is reacting to Bonnie

Watched the first episode today and Meryl Streep is going to be great. I loved her apology to RW character which was followed up by another insult Grin

justasking111 · 13/06/2019 16:41

Saving this for when OH is out for the evening. Meryl character sounds good.

TokyoSushi · 13/06/2019 16:46

Here you all are! Absolutely loved it!

Hortz · 13/06/2019 17:59

I loved the first series, hadn't expected to as I loved the book first and was ready to be disappointed.
I was going to re-watch season one but when I started I realised it was too soon and I remembered it all.
I have a BLL playlist.

I only know Reese Witherspoon from this and I thought she was even better in this first episode - or she may have just had some brilliant lines. I read somewhere that MS loved playing Perry's mother as it was such a nasty character. I can see she is going to be great, such understated venom.
I'm already bored with Bonnie who I thought was the weakest character in S1.

AliceRR · 13/06/2019 18:55

Agree there isn’t much to Bonnie. I’m not keen on Jane actually.

RW and NK could carry the show alone IMHO

Perry was hot though...

OP posts:
franke · 13/06/2019 21:41

Oh, I think Bonnie's shaping up to be a bit more complex. After being all peace and love in S1, her inner peace has been shattered and she's angry that her chance to confess was taken away by the others when they concocted their story. She blames RW particularly. Could get nasty.

Maybe we’ll see more of Bonnie this season, her dark side.

It seemed she and Madeleine might be friends now but it could actually drive them apart further given her comment about Madeleine & co having stopped her from confessing. There must be some drama other than from Perry’s mother.

I think there’ll be some drama between Jane and Celeste too.

Yes! strawberrypancakes that dinner party incident popped into my mind too, the mask definitely slipped. Also Bonnie's back story (in the book) wasn't included in S1. Perhaps it will come up in S2.

MadisonAvenue · 14/06/2019 08:05

Finally got the time to watch this last night. I love Meryl Streep's character. She's going to be a very interesting addition to the story.

Loopytiles · 14/06/2019 18:20

Enjoyed episode 1.

Celeste still really, really needs MN!

AliceRR · 14/06/2019 21:39

@franke your posts are making me want to read the book again 😬🤓

AliceRR I hadn't actually read the book before seeing the series and then thought it would be pointless afterwards. But I picked it up this morning and can't put it down. Reading the original words makes me admire S1 even more in how the mood of the book was preserved and how the actors conveyed the complexities of their situations, particularly Jane and Celeste.

Yamayo · 14/06/2019 23:39

I thought they managed to adapt the differences from book to screen amazingly well in season 1.

First episode of season 2 was promising. Perry's mum was scaaaaaary. I take it Celeste has no family? Not sure why she would allow her clearly unhinged MIL to stay otherwise.
Love the fact that Meryl signed on without even reading the script. She's clearly loving it.
How outstanding is the cast? 3 oscar winners and 2 oscar nominated. Pretty impressive.

In it for the story but also for the drop dead gorgeous real-estate. I want Bonnie's house but with Madeline's kitchen. Grin

Clawdy · 15/06/2019 22:49

Bonnie seems to look younger in this series.
