All discussion welcome. We post different views but respect each other's contributions.

No spoilers from elsewhere on the net, please.

Jaime shagged Brienne because it was post battle, adrenaline was rushing, he'd had a drink and wanted his end away. She felt more. Is it so hard to believe that afterwards he felt regret and ran back to his sister after doing that? Especially given their relationship and that he believes she was in peril. Which was true.

yumyumpoppycat · 17/05/2019 12:31

I agree about Jamie, I think if they had even just made him leave sooner it would have made more sense.

yumyumpoppycat · 17/05/2019 12:32

Ms M the problem is that he was going to stay with Brienne when C was initially under attack but only left when Dany had lost a dragon etc.

agirlhasnonameX · 17/05/2019 12:36

I think it was a better end to stay true to Jaimes character. I kept saying to DP that he will always choose Cersei ultimately.
I didn't see his arc as one particularly steered towards redemption either though, I think he went North not to redeem himself, but because he was genuinely horrified by the army of the dead and didn't want to sit idly waiting for them to come. It's more his story with Brienne I don't understand, he could have knighted her without it meaning anything in particular for him- he's saved her before so not out of character, but why they had to show Brienne get shat on I'm not so sure, we already knew he was an arsehole and that he loved Cersei in a way he'd love no one else 🤷🏻‍♀️ maybe I'm missing something.
I did think it might have been good if he had killed her, but not to save the realm like everyone thought he would, but as a mercy kill, so she wouldn't die at the hands of Targaryens or Starks or have a painful, undignified end and in love instead, then kill himself or lie with her bleeding out.

Robin2323 · 17/05/2019 12:41

@agirlhasnonameX

Very well put.
At first I was very cross how he'd led Brienne on, but then I realised no matter what Cercie was his true love.

CodenameVillanelle · 17/05/2019 13:39

I was fine with Jamie's return to Cersei. He and Brienne were never going to live happily ever after. Jaime is a secretly honourable man despite doing some awful things. That's why he left to fight the wights but that's also why he had to go back to Cersei. He loved her obsessively and always would. In another life he and Brienne could have loved each other but that was never truly possible for him.

yumyumpoppycat · 17/05/2019 14:13

I 100% agree that Jamie had to go back to cersei and I liked their scene together, I don't have a problem with his relationship with Brienne either, or the ambiguity about his character - he is one of my favourites. I think they could have probably still kept us on our toes about what he was going to do, while having the storyline make sense, with just a few tiny changes.

sashh · 17/05/2019 14:17

Well as long as no one wakes up with Ned, unbeheaded,in the shower, I think I can live with the ending.

SweetSummerchild · 17/05/2019 14:18

agirlhasnonameX I agree.

I do think Jaime loved Brienne. She was the True Knight that he could never be. She was brave, honest, loyal and took her oaths seriously. He wanted to love her in the same way that he did Cersei, but in the end he couldn’t. It is a very tragic tale.

However, I think we all know someone who throws away the ‘perfect’ person in order to return to their toxic ex.

IHeartArya · 17/05/2019 15:08

Thank you PP - I knew I wasn’t unreasonable to watch at 2am. Tho whether I can actually stay awake is another matter Grin

OneInAMillionYou · 17/05/2019 15:32

IHeartArya

I would consider it grounds for divorce if my DP tried to make me wait almost 24 hours to see the final episode!

He will still have the pleasure of your company when he watches it on Monday evening, anything else is just dog in the manger stuff.

If he didn't stop moaning I would dangle spoilers in his face all day on Monday. 😀

Love your name by the way.

However, I’m willing to believe that this is the direction George was planning to take him in, but he would have executed it much much better.

I agree.

It’s such a shame how rushed this season has felt.

Drogon is my favourite character and they can’t really ruin his character as he’s pretty much flap around and burn things 😂

IHeartArya · 17/05/2019 16:05

Thanks OP Wink

My last few previous names have all been GOT characters - I usually use literary or tv characters & name change every couple of months or so. Keeps me on my toes thinking up obscure ones day times!

CaptainBrickbeard · 17/05/2019 16:13

Why on Earth are people complaining about Brienne’s tears?? When Renly died, she flung herself on his corpse and wept for love. Crying over Jaime was exactly the same - she loved him and she wanted to protect him. Except with Renly it was external threats she wanted to save him from and with Jaime it was his own weakness and amorality she wanted to save him from. Both times she lost the man she loved and felt she had failed and so she sobbed and howled. As I’ve said before, just because she’s good at fighting doesn’t mean she is emotionless and she has never been portrayed as such. I really feel like some fans can’t cope with any subtleties in the characters so they think Brienne = physically strong = no crying. She’s tough, she’s resilient, she’s a great fighter but she has always been soft hearted and loving.

CaptainBrickbeard · 17/05/2019 16:15

I would really have liked more time with Jaime though to see his motivation in going back to Cersei develop and strengthen. That did feel a bit rushed, I agree.

agirlhasnonameX · 17/05/2019 16:29

Why on Earth are people complaining about Brienne’s tears??
It's not so much her crying that bothered me about it, it was more the begging and the fact she was prepared to let him stroll back into the arms of the enemy without doing anything but crying and begging - and that Jaime and her fucked, which I didn't think was necessary and was altogether poorly written. Leaving her arc finished as a Knight was perfect, leaving it with her once again heartbroken over a man, not so much.
Everytime I've watched it I can't help but laugh at his moves.
"It's hot in here," before he proceeds to strip and the way he runs after her when he finds out she's a virgin I just thought was really creepy 😂

Ohnotanothernamechange · 17/05/2019 16:39

I might be in the minority, but I loved 'The Bells'. She was always going to burn Kings Landing down, that has always been obvious to me. There was a scene during the burning where you see the shadow of Drogon fly over the rooftops of KL which was in Brans 'Burn them all!' vision from a few seasons ago. Watch it on YouTube in slowmo if you don't believe me.

CaptainBrickbeard · 17/05/2019 16:48

I loved ‘The Bells’ too! It was done amazingly well.

SweetSummerchild · 17/05/2019 16:55

But every child knows that the Targaryens have always danced too close to madness. Your father was not the first. King Jaehaerys once told me that madness and greatness are two sides of the same coin. Every time a new Targaryen is born, he said, the gods toss the coin in the air and the world holds its breath to see how it will land.

This has always put me off the idea of a Jon/Dany marriage and Targ babies. All it would ever have done is start the old cycle of Mad Kings/Queens all over again.

Dany would have got her way over Jon and married their children, Luqe and Laea, to each other (if she didn’t die in childbirth) and begin a new line of coin-tossing incest babies.

Personally, I think the extinction of the dragonlords will the best thing to happen to Westeros since the extinction of the Others.

CodenameVillanelle · 17/05/2019 17:05

Luqe and laea Grin

Leontine · 17/05/2019 17:08

Is it implied that the Targaryen madness is due to them all being born from incest?

agirlhasnonameX · 17/05/2019 17:12

Dany would have got her way over Jon and married their children, Luqe and Laea, to each other
PMSL at this 😂😂😂

CodenameVillanelle · 17/05/2019 17:12

I certainly think that generations of inbreeding can't have helped

Leontine · 17/05/2019 17:15

I really must get round to reading Fire & Blood because I want to know if their were any normal ones apart from Maester Aemon. Grin

RJnomore1 · 17/05/2019 17:18

Jamie’s moves weren’t great but then was that not his only experience apart from with Cersei?
