Just saying hi for now

Leontine · 15/05/2019 22:43

@codename I remember hearing that music, not knowing what was going to happen except that shit was about to go down. Absolutely spine tingling.

Also while not blown away by the hold the door thing, I was properly traumatised by him getting stabbed to death. Sad

BurntSausage · 15/05/2019 23:16

Codename I love that music too. And I like how it’s layered with Rains of Castermere over the end credits of this week’s. They work so well together.

I love in the Winds of Winter episode how builds and builds and then KABOOM! It’s my favourite episode. The first time I saw it was a proper what the fuck moment, shouting at (I think) Lancel Lannister to blow the fucking candle out. Amazing 😁

Walney · 15/05/2019 23:20

I'll admit the Hodor moment really got me.

OneInAMillionYou · 15/05/2019 23:21

Waves to DeadWife imperiously....

Codename that episode was my single favourite on GoT. Absolutely brilliant pacing, and the music was the star. I am going to buy the S8 soundtrack album as soon as it comes out.

To me, the music is like another star cast member. So many moments where the music is completely perfect. I would love to go to one of the concerts, has anyone been?

So the poison in his rings is a red herring that'll never be alluded to again, right? Despite all the careful shots of him putting his rings into a little dish?

itswinetime · 15/05/2019 23:55

Well I'm not sure if it was precaution because he thought Danny was in to him so he removed the rings/evidence of what he has done before he stood trial was searched?

Otherwise I can't see the point I don't see how they will tie into any of the remaining storylines unless someone else takes up the Idea to poison Danny, Tyrion maybe that's a bit of a stretch though.

Andylion · 16/05/2019 00:08

I thought he removed his rings because he knew his time was up. No need for them to be torched.

EluphNaugeMeop · 16/05/2019 00:18

Tommen jumping was definitely a wtf moment too. There's way more than 3.

RustyShackleford · 16/05/2019 07:18

I figured the rings were left as a payment to his little bird for her service, now that he wouldn't be around to reward her.

agirlhasnonameX · 16/05/2019 07:28

I thought he removed his rings because he knew his time was up.
I think this too. You see it quite a lot in movies but I've no idea why.

IHeartArya · 16/05/2019 07:32

Nothing comes close IMO to Ned & the red wedding as a wtf. Just so unexpected. It’s when you realise no one is safe.

I cried ugly tears at Hodor though.

MyOtherProfile · 16/05/2019 07:43

Are people really threatening to boycott the final episode? On twitter? That's too funny.

MsMarvellous · 16/05/2019 07:45

If there is one thing we have all learned from GoT is that if you overanalyse every detail then you can ruin something. Not every single shot has a million layers of meaning. In any show. Sometimes it's just showing the character.

So for example putting the rings away could be a signal and something to think about. Or it could be a tension building shot just slowing things down before his inevitable demise.

BlackCatSleeping · 16/05/2019 07:48

Ramin Djawadi is an absolute genius. His music scores are amazing. He deserves a ton of awards for this season.

As sad as I am that it's ending, I think it's good that it is ending. I'd hate for it to be dragged out and get really crap. I know some people think it already has, but I still love it.

BlackCatSleeping · 16/05/2019 07:49

I think the significance of Varys removing his rings was just to show that he knew his time was up and he was going to die. He was accepting his fate.

sonjadog · 16/05/2019 08:06

I agree he removed them because his time was up. The reason why people removed their jewelry was that it was valuable and could be used as payment for servants or be exchanged for money by their family.

SweetSummerchild · 16/05/2019 08:14

I think people are taking the ‘3 wtf moments’ at bit out of context. The series is absolutely full of wtf moments, and they are all different for different viewers. Some people find some things more shocking than others and some obnoxious shits think they could see every shocking moment coming a mile off.

However, D&D referred in an interview to three plot points that formed part of the future book story that George told them about and made them think ‘holy shit’. This does not include Ned’s beheading or the Red Wedding as these were already in the book series at that time. They were the burning of Shireen, Hodor and a third event that would occur ‘at the very end of the series’. I can’t find the interview now, but there are a billion and one threads on Westeros.org about it - mainly trying to predict what the third moment would be.

For me, there was only one real WTF moment. There are many things I’ve found shocking, surprising and upsetting but, like the Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, most made perfect sense in retrospect. The one that didn’t was the murder of Doran Martell. If anyone can explain to me why murdering the Prince of Dorne would make his brother’s bastard paramour the de facto leader of Dorne given the established ‘in universe’ rules of succession, I would be very grateful.

agirlhasnonameX · 16/05/2019 08:15

The reason why people removed their jewelry was that it was valuable and could be used as payment for servants or be exchanged for money by their family.
Ah thats why they do it lots of movies then 😂 He did promise his spy that the pay off for her help would be big, so guess he probably left it to pay off his little birds for their work.

agirlhasnonameX · 16/05/2019 08:34

sweetsummer If I had to justify it, I'd be inclined to think it was similar to what Robert Baratheon did, he had no right to the throne but won it by eradicating the Targaryens. Also, she is his closest relative I think and bastards aren't a big deal in Dorne.
They could have shown he wasn't loved by his people to explain why the other Lords would be ok with it and I don't understand why his guards would be cool with it either.

I don't want to justify it though, Dorne is my bug bear in GoT, it's absolute butchery of a storyline and there was no need to include it at all, it's just a stupid, pointless scene and pretty much all of Ellaria's story after could be carried out without it, she could have went rouge after killing Myrcella and Trystane didn't need to die at all. If Dorne do show up in the last episode after receiving word from Varys it was even more pointless.

weaselwords · 16/05/2019 08:37

Yes. Varys would look after his little birds to the very end. I’m so sad that he was killed. I thought for a very brief second that Drogon was smiling at him and would refuse to do it.

SweetSummerchild · 16/05/2019 09:05

agirlhasnonameX I agree. I hated the Dorne plot.

It’s amusing that there is so much uproar in the show fandom now that Dany is seen to have been ‘butchered’ by D&D. This is undoubtedly where George was always going with her story. However, when Ellaria was truly ‘butchered’ in season 5 and 6, very few viewers were bothered at all and those who did were labelled ‘book snobs’ etc.

Metalhead · 16/05/2019 09:30

We’re just rewatching Season 2, and when Daenerys is refused entry to Qarth she goes “when my dragons are grown I will take what’s mine, I will burn cities to the ground”! I think she just got a bit sidetracked by saving slaves and feeling all adored and loved in the following seasons; now that that’s gone, she’s reverted to her true character!

BlackCatSleeping · 16/05/2019 09:37

I agree the Dorne plot was not well done. It was a shame because I really loved Pedro Pascal as Oberyn.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/05/2019 09:44

I think Dany torched the city as she knew Cersei was watching from the Keep - hence torching it last Sad

I still feel a bit traumatised after watching it Monday. I'm not one of those who thinks they did a bad job, it was always going to end like this.

I loved the Hound and thought his ending conquering fire and his brother was fitting.
