In what way can it be described as 'entertainment'?

I seriously, don't understand why people happily sit down to watch the carnage, the immolation, the screaming children.

What is wrong with people?

OP posts:
fdhvdn · 14/05/2019 20:47

I agree -finally!!! It really upsets me

Don't bloody watch it then.
There are hundreds of channels to choose from - watch something else.
Something less upsetting

CaptainBrickbeard · 14/05/2019 20:47

For one of my A Levels, we studied Medea. She murders her own children to take revenge on her husband and kills his wife with a poisoned cloak that burns her to death agonisingly. Should I have complained?!

Tinyteatime · 14/05/2019 20:48

It’s not what I’d call a quality show and agree it’s basically porn. I lump it in with ‘things that are very popular but I can’t understand why’, like Nando’s.

Captaindobbin · 14/05/2019 20:48

Why do you keep comparing game of thrones to porn OP?!!
You do realise that the actors shown having sex in Game of thrones are not actually having sex with each other Grin
It is nothing like the porn you keep referring to where the 18 year olds are actually doing these acts.
Sometimes in films and tv the violence has to be shown to make you hate that character, to show you what has actually happened in the scene etc. There wouldn’t be much tv left if any scenes that show violence or sex had to just be referenced like you seem to want.

Icandothisallday · 14/05/2019 20:49

OP proves, in her last post, that this thread was designed to be goady.

OP is probably a huge GoT fan, but has watched this weeks episode and doesnt have much else going on until next Sunday/Monday.

I cant see that much anger from people who dont agree with you Op. Especially since you cant even articulate your responses and form a decent argument.

Funny how you tipped back up, once posters suggested you a socket puppet.

mollysshadow · 14/05/2019 20:49

It hasn't been 'basically porn' for several seasons

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 20:52

Frankly, if you’ve watched any amount of it and conclude it’s ‘basically porn’ then I’d question your intelligence.

But there are a lot of thick people out there so 🤷‍♀️

Outofinspiration · 14/05/2019 20:52

People have become desensitised - just watch what was labelled an 18 in the 1980s or 1990s - they now look so incredibly tame.

What?! There were loads of hideous horror movies in the 80s!

poorbuthappy · 14/05/2019 20:52

I have dipped in and out of GoT.
I stopped dipping when I read that some of the sexual violence and rapes in the tv show were not in the books in earlier series. So basically tv execs decided to add it in order to improve the series for the viewing public.

Ilovetolurk · 14/05/2019 20:52

Well, well, well! What a rich seam I have mined

GOT thrones love any opportunity to discuss GOT

You just came slong on the telly topic at the right point in the evening’s viewing

Feel free to congratulate yourself though. There’s a font for that

CaptainBrickbeard · 14/05/2019 20:53

poorbuthappy the sexual violence in the books is far worse than in the show.

Icandothisallday · 14/05/2019 20:54

It’s not what I’d call a quality show and agree it’s basically porn.

Is it though? I very much doubt anyone uses simulated sex scenes to wank off to, when porn is so readily available.

Porn uses horrific scenes and sexual acts to get people off. It presents horrible scenes as though that's what sex should be.

The sex scenes in GoT are usually designed to shock and horrify viewers. Not to present them as normal or ideal.

fdhvdn · 14/05/2019 20:54

t's not real love, people were getting burnt alive by a fucking dragon. Do get over yourself.

Grin

Miljah, is someone forcing you to watch GoT? Against your will?
You can tell us you know.

Prequelle · 14/05/2019 20:56

The books include someone before forced to have sex with a dog so noone can say things were shoved into the show, sexwise anyway

I suspect some socks in this thread...

poorbuthappy · 14/05/2019 20:58

Captainbrickbeard but the tv put in sexual violence where there was none. Why?

Tinyteatime · 14/05/2019 20:58

Frankly, if you’ve watched any amount of it and conclude it’s ‘basically porn’ then I’d question your intelligence.

Well to be fair I haven’t. I tried the 1st series b/c I love any sort of historical drama and my 1st thought was ‘this is made for people with low intelligence’ funnily enough. I obviously also thought it was creepy and far too fantastical for me. Nope, couldn’t see the appeal and I still don’t tbh. It’s only a tv show, why is everyone so defensive?

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 21:01

why is everyone so defensive?

Absolutely fine to say you don’t like it/not your thing.

Also fine to say that you find it hard to get past the violence to appreciate its strengths.

Shows up your critical limitations to dismiss it as ‘basically porn’.

cerseiswinegoblet · 14/05/2019 21:04

Low intelligence? You are either being goady or haven't seen the first series. The writing was brilliant and so not aimed at people who need their stories spoonfed with pudding afterwards.

Pepperdino · 14/05/2019 21:06

Gee, I don't know...

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 21:12

Theon’s arc, for example, is as morally and emotionally complex as it gets.

Clearly some don’t have the intelligence to see that or engage with it.

mollysshadow · 14/05/2019 21:13

'Low intelligence ' the gfs are out in force tonight. Hmm

cerseiswinegoblet · 14/05/2019 21:15

LaurieMarlow

Yes, I don't think I have ever seen character development like that in a TV show.

CaptainBrickbeard · 14/05/2019 21:16

poorbuthappy I don’t know but there is a lot of sexual violence in the books that never made it to screen - a lot of it more disturbing than anything that’s been on the show. I can’t forget what the Mountain and his men do in the books that was never in the tv series in particular.
