Does anyone know when this will be aired? Last year it said expected first week of May but can’t find it. Paranoid I’ll miss it, I love that series

And does anyone know what happened to Child of Our Time and Born to be special (not sure that was the name)? Are they still going?

Thanks!

I haven't seen any of these - just started 7up while watching this. Was there another wee girl? She doesn't appear in tomorrow's trailer.

Ratatouille76 · 05/06/2019 22:12

I've just been reading about it. There was Suzy who hasn't done this series. Cant remember anything about her or what she looked like.

Ilikesweetpeas · 05/06/2019 22:19

What's this on please? I missed it and would love to find it on catch up

northernstars · 05/06/2019 22:22

I would have liked to know if any of them from the same schools had stayed in touch.

southeastdweller · 05/06/2019 22:22

It's on ITV Player to watch on catch up.

Clawdy · 05/06/2019 22:25

Suzy was the little girl from a very privileged background. Looks as if she opted out. So many boys and only four girls in the original programme. Michael Apted has said he does regret that now.

RubyJack · 05/06/2019 22:29

I love this programme

Hammondisback · 05/06/2019 22:31

Just been watching it. Fab reminder of how fascinating people are. I love it. Very emotive watch though Sad

Pepperama · 05/06/2019 22:37

It’s such a brilliant programme. Insightful and you can tell how Director and participants have this long relationship. I hope he’s still around for 70 up, but given he’s 77 it’s not that likely

AlexaAmbidextra · 05/06/2019 22:39

That horrible little bastard at the posh prep school kicking the others into line. 😱

Ratatouille76 · 05/06/2019 22:42

Northern stars, we said that. Reading about it Bruce and Neil are friends but through the programme I guess as dont think they went to the same school. My son is 7 and I do wonder what he would say!

Ratatouille76 · 05/06/2019 22:43

Also a reminder that 7 is still really little.

Roussette · 05/06/2019 22:45

How fascinating that in a way, you're shaped even when you are 7.

What a wonderful legacy Lynne has left with all she did with children and reading

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 05/06/2019 22:47

I have been watching this all my life and loved this last series. Poor Lynne though that was a shock. She had such a happy family life.

Bluerussian · 05/06/2019 22:48

They were all such lovely children and it's been great seeing them grow up. Tonight I thought Bruce was just so gentle and likeable. Looking forward to seeing the rest.

7Days · 05/06/2019 22:49

I have only caught these programmes intermittently but I love them.

It would be great if they broadcast episodes focusing on one person, from each 7 year interval.

VanillaSugarr · 05/06/2019 22:52

So sad. I didn’t realise how invested I am in these people until now. Sad

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 05/06/2019 22:54

Love Bruce but he needs to sort out his weight right now.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 05/06/2019 23:15

I thought Apted handled the Lynn segment really well, it came across as such a lovely tribute to her. She was always such a warm thoughtful character.

Bruce is lovely. He helped out Neil when he saw him struggling in am earlier series and Neil also went to his wedding.

It's a shame Susie isn't taking part - I thought they all would this time. She had a privileged yet difficult childhood.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's installment. They've all had such eventful lives.

GiantKitten · 05/06/2019 23:21

Suzy & Charles are both absent this time (Charles since way back)

This is the talking heads programme from Monday. It's really worth a watch, both as a catch-up & as a reflection on the early stages of all our lives.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 05/06/2019 23:24

Charles hasn't been in it for years though so no surprise. I think it's a shame he didn't participate as it must be an incredible thing for your children to see.

It has made me consider getting a family friend to interview DD on film. She's 10 now and it would be great to look back on when she's older.

Rockbird · 05/06/2019 23:49

I didn't realise Suzy wasn't doing this round. What a shame. I'm still amazed by the change in her between 21 and 28!

Bruce is lovely, such a gentle man. And Nick's segment was heartbreaking. I think I first watched 7 Up in sociology in about 1987 so 28 Up was the most recent one I think. Goodness, that's a long time ago!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 05/06/2019 23:59

They pulled Child of our Time?

Quintella · 06/06/2019 00:14

I remember in 56 Up Susie spoke about her reluctance to take part in the programme and how she'd much rather not do it at all. She seems/seemed to be quite a reserved person and appeared to find the process slightly excruciating. So not surprised she's not in it this time around.

Quintella · 06/06/2019 00:20

I like to compare their childhood accent to their adulthood accent. Bruce's 'my heart's desire is to see my daddy' voice was pure 1950s RP, an accent which has all but disappeared, whereas now he has a 'quite posh but not remarkably so' voice. Same with Nick and the broad Yorkshire accent of his boyhood compared to the much softer accent he has now. Unsurprising after decades in America I suppose!
