Does anyone know when this will be aired? Last year it said expected first week of May but can’t find it. Paranoid I’ll miss it, I love that series

And does anyone know what happened to Child of Our Time and Born to be special (not sure that was the name)? Are they still going?

Thanks!

I feel so old remembering 7up. While watching it I often wondered whether being in a programme like this would influence any of my life decisions, knowing I would be filmed 7 years later. I think it might have.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 17/05/2019 21:24

Oh I've been waiting for this.

Mary1935 · 17/05/2019 22:54

Yes absolutely love this series. Can’t wait.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/05/2019 09:09

Such a shame re Child of Our Time. They were a year older than DD so they’d be doing A Levels now.

I think the problem with it was that the updates became less frequent once the children had a say on whether they wanted to be included. There were far fewer 'children' involved by the last few updates, presumably because most of the others didn't want to be filmed? So it had rather lost its purpose.

A pity that the BBC pulled the plug though, particularly as we were given to believe that it would follow them until they were 18 - I think the last update was around GCSE time, wasn't it?

fussychica · 18/05/2019 17:46

Love the Up series, especially as I am very close to them in age.
Thanks for the update. I'm on holiday when it's on so I'll just have to catch up on the ITV hub when I get back.

JaynePoole · 18/05/2019 19:38

I’m watching all of the Ups, currently at 35 Up. Absolutely fascinating. The interviewing is shocking.

JaynePoole · 18/05/2019 19:38

At 35 the 80s fashion is beyond words!

DanFmDorking · 21/05/2019 00:56

There was a trailer for '63 Up' this evening on ITV.
Tuesday 4th June

Costacoffeeplease · 21/05/2019 14:26

Looking forward to this, so interesting to see how they’ve changed (or not). They’re about 10 years older than me so I’ve seen most of them as they were shown and I think the first couple of series have been repeated

tobee · 21/05/2019 15:30

Ooh no! The trail made me feel a bit tearful.

Rafflesway · 22/05/2019 17:35

Fussychica I AM exactly the same age as the people in 63 Up.

It's hysterical looking at what life was like all those years ago and clearly remembering it. 😄

Will be watching again with renewed interest.

fussychica · 22/05/2019 18:02

Yes Raffles I know what you mean. I'm 63 later this year and went to a grim looking primary school in East London until we moved out when I was nine. As it was filmed in black and white it makes it look even worse.

I love seeing how well or badly they've aged in comparison (mean I know) but really sorry poor Lynn has gone. I hope everyone else is still going strong as they look towards their later life.

RedRiverShore · 22/05/2019 19:53

So glad this is back as I am just a bit younger at 61 and like to see how it compares with my life through the years and how everyone’s doing.

Kinraddie · 23/05/2019 00:42

I'm always shocked at how quickly these 7 years come around again so quickly. Looking forward to seeing it again in june.

JaynePoole · 23/05/2019 05:28

I wish I hadn’t just read about the death of one of the participants on here, would rather have heard about it in the context of the programme.

cortex10 · 23/05/2019 06:34

Always brings home to me how quickly time passes by - excellent tv. Can't wait.

GlossyTaco · 23/05/2019 06:53

Ah , brilliant. I'll be watching with interest as Bruce was a Maths teacher at the school I attended in the 90s. He wasn't my teacher but I remember a film crew coming in to see him. I also remember his wife , a geography teacher iirc, and very popular with the students. He got eaten alive at an East London school for girls though , unfortunate as he seems like a lovely man!

fussychica · 23/05/2019 09:59

Jayne sorry you found out about Lynn's death through my comment but it happened in 2013 and was a postscript on the repeat showing of 56 Up filmed fairly shortly before her death so it hadn't crossed my mind that it was a "spoiler".

AnneEyhtMeyer · 23/05/2019 10:30

@fussychica it wasn't a spoiler, several of us have mentioned it because it was widely reported when it happened 6 years ago.

JaynePoole · 23/05/2019 20:31

Perhaps not for you, but it was for me Anne.

If Lynn died in 2013 and 56 Up was shown in 2012, then it's reasonable that a viewer wouldn't know. I don't think "spoiler" is appropriate, but I would rather watch the narrative be told within the programme. Otherwise we could all read the updates on Wiki and not bother with the programmes at all.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 23/05/2019 20:39

But it's a thread about the programme and in the broadcast repeat it had a bit about Lynn's death. With the best will in the world if you don't want to know about something already broadcast don't read a thread about it.

UrsulaPandress · 23/05/2019 20:46

Quite.

Really looking forward to this. Saw the trailer the other night and felt bizzarely content.

MsChookandtheelvesofFahFah · 23/05/2019 20:56

I'm sure Lynn had died before we saw 56 Up but maybe not. Love the programme because I'm the same age. So sad about Shelbie, she had a tough life but her amazing mum was an inspiration who found strength that floored me every programme.

UrsulaPandress · 23/05/2019 21:01

Actually I’m amazed at someone being outraged at a spoiler from a programme made 7 years ago.

JaynePoole · 23/05/2019 21:15

It hasn't been shown though. The last programme was broadcast in 2012. Lynn didn't die until 2013. I can take your word for it that it was mentioned on a repeat, but I haven't seen it in the ones I've watched on YouTube.
