Given that we only saw the offer of help being given to him at the end of series 1, were we meant to think that he’s rejected it and turned to a life of crime? So the fact that he’s turned into a violent, albeit intelligent, criminal despite the involvement of the police officer was a surprise?

Not that I think it was!

yumyumpoppycat · 06/05/2019 21:09

Possibly nothing will come of Ryan other than if they do find h and get rid of him them then we will know that there are still other corrupt officers.

TedsFederationRep · 06/05/2019 21:21

Someone further up the thread pointed out that it will be several years before Ryan is senior enough to be in any sort of useful position. This OCG is "definately" thinking long-term then, isn't it?

Many moons ago, I attended a talk given by a very senior AC officer from the Met. He said that 10% of the Met are totally incorruptible (nothing, but nothing would persuade or frighten them into behaving corruptly); 10% are already corrupt; and the other 80% could potentially be swayed either way. I remember feeling horrified.

tinstar · 06/05/2019 21:23

I don’t think there’s any significance to Ryan quoting PC Simon - it just made me grin.

Agree - it was just a nice little nod to those of us who have been paying attention and remember what happened in Series 1.

InABigCountry · 06/05/2019 22:31

Have just watched yesterday's episode- I believe Ted was innocent then??!! Knew that Jill was dodgy. Also thought police woman with red hair was involved. Can't wait for next series!

JackieLavertyIsInMyFreezer · 06/05/2019 23:08

I thought I recognised Mrs Corbett's house- I reckon it could have been Sean Bean's house in that thing he was in recently where his wife had disappeared and he was a single dad. Can't for the life of me remember what it was called but it was meant to be set in Belfast.

popehilarious · 07/05/2019 00:44

EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE THIS
Jed's totally f*cking with us!

Comparing the first time we see Dot's dying declaration vs the video shown in the finale. Listen to what Kate asks.
Wtf is going on?

shivermetimbers77 · 07/05/2019 00:55

I actually really like the idea that there is no 'H', no one specific mastermind behind it all.. It's a bit like the Wizard of Oz: look behind the curtain and there is no Wizard after all. Maybe that is what Jed is trying to say: the system creates an endless supply of OCG members and officers ready to become corrupt/ripe to be turned, because that's what the system does..but there is no one person at the top pulling the strings. It is just an endless and unbreakable cycle (not sure how they will make that into an exciting Season 6 though if that is the case!)

tinstar · 07/05/2019 05:09

What do you mean Popehilarious? The link keeps closing for me.

implantsandaDyson · 07/05/2019 06:51

I thought the exterior of Mrs Corbett's house was filmed in Glengormley (outside Belfast) but the long shot was Liverpool. I wouldn't worry - Gill received her comeuppance- looks like she's now living In Larne Grin

Isitmybathtimeyet · 07/05/2019 07:29

The link shows two versions of the declaration. On the first, which we saw in series 4, Kate asks Dot to blink on the first letter of the name. On the second, which we saw on Sunday, she asks him to blink on the first two letters of the name, and of course he doesn’t blink on A, seemingly exonerating Hastings. I remember thinking when I watched it why has no one pointed this out, and it was because it was new.

But as H supposed isn’t a thing any more, does that have significance? Who knows? I don’t.

popehilarious · 07/05/2019 07:49

'blink twice on the first letter of his name' vs 'blink on the first two letters of his band name'.
I agree, the sooner they drop 'h' as single big baddie, the better

popehilarious · 07/05/2019 07:50
  • name, not band name! ^^
NowWeAreSuckingDiesel · 07/05/2019 08:20

Is it because we didn't see far enough the first time or because the paramedic jumps in after 1 letter in the first clip? Just wondering whether it's something we just didn't see before or it's case of moving the goal posts

Rumbletum2 · 07/05/2019 08:23

She says two completely different things.

Piggywaspushed · 07/05/2019 08:25

It was obviously refilmed. Hence all the leaked footage of Craig Parkinson in NI while LoD was being filmed which led to fevered speculation that Dot was alive!

What happens when this thread is full? Do we all just go away and chunter in our own corners?

Clawdy · 07/05/2019 08:27

The poster upthread was right - Dot would have held up four fingers, much easier to understand.

diddl · 07/05/2019 08:51

". Maybe that is what Jed is trying to say: the system creates an endless supply of OCG members and officers ready to become corrupt/ripe to be turned,"

So does it seem a bit daft that Dot knew that he was one of only 4 caddies?

Or there are/were 4 caddies & lower ranking officers used as & when?

I agree though that I didn't like the idea of a some police boss running the ocgs. Makes more sense that the gangs run the police.

Also re Corbett's death-Jed seems to have said that Ted was responsible-although I though he gave himself away re the shopping centre meet.

So would Lee Banks be bothered about helping with the death of a policeman?

If not he would surely want to land Ted in it & possibly help himself?

NowWeAreSuckingDiesel · 07/05/2019 09:14

Diddl - I think Lise says that she knew he was a rat because of the shopping centre leak. But then she knew that Corbett was a police officer specifically because of Banks?

I'm not 100% sure really. A rat and a copper in this context are prob the same anyway. I'm not down with the lingo!

RaffertyFair · 07/05/2019 09:31

I cant see why JM needed to refilm to get Kate to ask for first 2 letters given the whole point of the revelation was that Dot was trying to indicate the number of leaders not the identify a single leader ...

Obviously they needed to film Dot doing his Morse code bollocks but the questioning surely could have stayed the same?

I did think on Sunday it was odd she'd asked for 2 letters which was a really confusing instruction! I'm not dying and wouldn't know how to comply with that.

The continuity of storyline throughout the series is the whole point of LOD. So to go back and rewrite history is insulting the viewers and undermines the whole programme.

RaffertyFair · 07/05/2019 09:40

What am I talking about?? Adding the tapping is rewriting the LOD history. Nothing should have been refilmed.

Invisibleiink · 07/05/2019 09:41

An informer could be a rat, so wouldn't necessarily be the same as a police officer (but could be - like the venn diagram i suppose!).

Tbh it wouldn't be surprising if the ocg had spotted some armed officers hiding at the shopping centre if they were on the lookout for them (or I think Lise said the security guards in their pay had tipped them off?). So, they would have known about Corbett anyway, even if Hastings hadn't told Banks.

NowWeAreSuckingDiesel · 07/05/2019 09:54

Yes, and I think Lise wanted to keep the OCG members still alive out of it as much as possible so there would be no retribution. She could just say she knew he was a rat because of the shopping centre palava and keep Banks out of it completely

diddl · 07/05/2019 10:02

" Nothing should have been refilmed."

Yeah-I mean there could have just been a discussion about "maybe Dot meant something else".

Because he wasn't answering what was asked either way!
