At the end of any big series like this we always get people coming on to post that they're disappointed, it's utterly predictable and tedious What an odd comment to make.

If people are disappointed they are at liberty to say so. Just as people who loved it can say so.

BlueCornishPixie · 06/05/2019 00:36

What I don't really get is why dot blinking H is supposed to indicate morse code of four dots and four people, rather than the much more plausible explanation dot was doing morse code on his hand for H. We've already had two Hs involved Hilton and hargreves. Just leave it at that.

There's still a lot of loose ends for ted, he's definately not been exonerated.

Lisa is looking out for herself, she's not giving info to the police out of the goodness of her own heart. Makes sense for her to say someone whos dead killed Corbett, saves her a hell of a lot of hassel and no one who could say she was involved either.

beanaseireann · 06/05/2019 00:51

I still don't know who told the police officer in the loo to knife Gill.

Oakenbeach · 06/05/2019 01:22

The Morse Code thing was utterly ridiculous.

It’s beyond ridiculous... it’s the stuff of farce. Very poor indeed... It’s so absurd you have to wonder what drugs the Jed Mercurio had been taking when he came up with that! Such a shame.

Acis · 06/05/2019 01:57

Rafferty, where did I say people couldn't claim to be disappointed? My point is that, no matter how good the last episode of a series is, there will always be someone popping up to say this, it's almost knee-jerk. They can never say how they would have done it better, and in many cases their disappointment springs from the fact that they weren't concentrating and have misunderstood or missed last chunks anyway.

Acis · 06/05/2019 02:06

large chunks, not last.

Acis · 06/05/2019 02:08

Oakenbeach, I think red haired officer received a text from the OCG telling her to kill Bigelow, prompted by Bigelow's request for a quick exit.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 06/05/2019 02:31

When Dot died Ryan would have been too young to join the police. So unless it was planned all along for Ryan to join the police (& they couldn't guarantee that Ryan would get in) then there must be an unknown bent copper.
Mind you I took Dot's finger tapping to say there are 4 caddies & 4 bent officers.
Plus I don't think Lisa has gone entirely straight but I could be wrong.
Roll on series 6 I say.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 06/05/2019 03:25

One more thing surely Gill would have coughed up loads of information & names seeing that she got immunity & went into witness protection.

WhoWants2Know · 06/05/2019 04:37

It bothers me that Lisa and Gill got immunity because there doesn't seem to be any basis for a deal. Immunity isn't just given for confessing to a crime, it's for giving information that leads to more arrests and convictions.

Gill gave them Moffatt, and Lisa claimed everyone died.

And surely if you've confessed to working with an OCG that deals drugs and traffics young women, they wouldn't let you go off chatting to at risk teens?

pineapplebryanbrown · 06/05/2019 06:35

Jimmy Lakewell (Huntleys solicitor from series 4) is still alive, maybe he'll make a comeback in series 6. He knew there was more than 1. Someone needs to hunt down JedM and sit him in front of a whiteboard.

pineapplebryanbrown · 06/05/2019 06:36

We need JM to do a MN Q&A! No one ask him about biscuits though.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 06/05/2019 06:38

Surely the 4th bent copper in the OCG was Hargreaves?

He wasn't a kingpin. I think the OCG had caught him doing something shady (using the brothel???) and could then blackmail him into working for them - remember they collect the used condoms of certain men at the brothel in order to have DNA evidence to plant at crime scenes.

The key things that trouble me (I'm just going with Steve's implausible leap to Morse code) are:

Immunity. Why did Gill get immunity without turning over the fourth bent copper. What else did she have to reveal that gave her bargaining power and protected her from prison?

Lisa - what was the point of showing how troubled she was by some of the OCG's actions? It didn't add anything to the story. Jed needs to remind himself of the rules of Chekhov's gun And she definitely hasn't told the whole truth about what's going on, so why is she giving those pious "how to stay on the straight and narrow" talks?

There is no WAY Ted got rid of that laptop because he'd been looking at porn.

lightlypoached · 06/05/2019 07:01

what you are all missing is that when Doc blinks to say 'H' in is dying declaration that it's the first name of the person, not the surname - he dies before disclosing the surname. so it's not Hastings.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 06/05/2019 07:04

Re definAtely.../definitely
Surely all they need to do is go back over old emails and documents that Ted has written in the past and check how he spells it when he not "being H"

diddl · 06/05/2019 07:12

So did Ted give Corbett away or not?

I thought that Corbett had already given himself away by telling Steve about the shopping centre meet up?

MsMarvellous · 06/05/2019 07:15

Hilton
Jill
Dot

They say only 3 have been found. Why have they assumed Hargreaves was only being blackmailed and not another dodgy copper?

fancynancyclancy · 06/05/2019 07:22

I thought Lisa was talking to school kids?

And I assumed Gill got immunity not just because of any divulged info but also because she’s knows a lot of the Police secrets so best to keep
her quiet.

LaganBubbleCruises · 06/05/2019 07:25

So who was messaging the OCG over the computer was it Gill ,Hastings or other unknown mystery person

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 06/05/2019 07:25

what you are all missing is that when Doc blinks to say 'H' in is dying declaration that it's the first name of the person, not the surname - he dies before disclosing the surname. so it's not Hastings.

The H is a complete red herring, though, which has thrown AC-12 off track. Dot blinked on H because its Morse code equivalent is four dots - he wanted to tell her that there were four corrupt officers at the heart of it all. Him, Hilton, Biggeloe and ? The H is irrelevant as a letter.

RedForShort · 06/05/2019 07:33

I thought it was a good ending (surely we knew we wouldn't find out who H is. Though in a way we did I supppse).

Only thing was i thought Steve wrapped it up a little too soon and slightly unbelievable. Why conclude the finger morse code means 4 people and not simply H. Bit confused by that (on a side note I wonder how many people are narked at the ending because they didn't spot Dot's hand before.)

Also if there was no H why were the OCG talking about H? (That's ignoring the fact Kate asked Dot what the first name started with not surname as everyone was going with.)

Anyone else think Anna Maxwell Martin has very similar facial expressions to Nicola Martin? I love both actresses, but they similar in certain actions (movements that aren't that common in others).

RedForShort · 06/05/2019 07:35

Nicola Walker. Not Martin!!

diddl · 06/05/2019 07:43

*"Also if there was no H why were the OCG talking about H? "

Because Bigaloe gave the idea to Corbett that Hastings was H?

But if there are 4 caddies, are there any above them pulling their strings or were/are they being run directly by OCGs?

Piggywaspushed · 06/05/2019 07:47

Plot holes everywhere indeed!

My burning issues :

who is it that Gill texts? The OCG were by that point 'neutralised'. It was my favourite moment though!
Who recruited the redhead?
Yes, indeed, who was at the other end of the laptop?
How do they know who the 4th one is? What excludes Hargreaves, or .more so, Huntley?
Agreed about Chekhov's gun!
It feels to me like Jed - knowing now that his audience have a soft spot for Hastings perhaps - has gone back and reinvented Dot's dying confession
And, yes, Lisa has been granted immunity for nothing!
Ryan was a good twist :shame internet called it.

Mistake to get rid of Polly Walker from series imo. She is good fun to watch.
I thought Ted was going to be shot( perhaps by Kyle) at the end with Carmichael : so glad he wasn't!

And laganbubblecruises : best LoD themed user name award winner!
