Do we need this or is there another one already started?

I only just caught up with the second episode of the new season and had been avoiding the last thread for a bit so as not to see spoilers and it is now full!

Ignore me if there is a new thread already on the go. If not feel free to use this one mate.

Hello, new to posting on the thread but have been lurking for ages and reading all the theories. Just wanted to share mine re the female DCC

Re the DCC that Ted went to - I have a thought. In series 3, Kate went to AC3 and asked Superintendent Summers for authorisation to investigate someone in AC12, think it was Dot.

Idly wondering if Summers is now the DCC because if I'm remembering correctly, didn't she say in S3 that Kate went to her because she was a woman and therefore couldn't be a mason, rather than going to an alternative AC (that was closer) to seek authorisation for investigation.

Hope that makes sense - not sure on timescales as to whether she could be though...

buggerthebotox · 17/04/2019 15:02

I remember the "can't be a mason cos a woman" conversation too. As I remember, Kate was was wondering about Ted's connection to Fairbanks and the funny handshake brigade.

I've a feeling it could be relevant, but not sure why.

TedsFederationRep · 17/04/2019 16:30

DecentOdds, you're right. She was called Summers but I've now realised that the DCC in the current series is called Andrea Wise, so bang goes at least part of my theory. However as Botox says, the Freemason connection keeps cropping up. The thing that puzzles me about that, though, is that Ted definitely did do the handshake. I remember thinking at the time why, oh why? He's meant to be a good Catholic boy!

DarlingNikita · 17/04/2019 16:44

So IS Ted a Mason or not, do we know? And is is true about Catholics not being allowed to be Masons? If so, how does that work with Ted?

pinkandstripey · 17/04/2019 16:57

Re ted's laptop. Am assuming that's not his work laptop, there would be questions to be answered if someone so senior 'lost' his work laptop. My theory is that the OCG/H issued a batch of laptops to anyone they think is corruptable - how they got to Hargreaves and Hilton etc. Ted was actually doing the right-ish thing by getting rid of it, now they can't contact him any more. (Obv the actual right thing would be to hand it in... but who too??)

beanaseireann · 17/04/2019 18:56

Is Series 1,2&3 on Netflix ?

Wolfcubisthefemalenominal · 17/04/2019 19:03

It’s on iPlayer Bean

buggerthebotox · 17/04/2019 20:35

I think Catholics can be Masons, can't they, under certain circumstances? Ted was a Catholic when younger-he told Steve about it in an earlier series.

I thought he may have converted to Catholicism maybe when he married Mrs Ted....she's Southern Irish isn't she?

I'm sure the Catholicism/ Mason/ can't be a Mason cos a woman thing is important. Can't think why though.

CoolCarrie · 17/04/2019 20:44

They are on Netflix too bean, I’ve been rewatching from the start, now up to series 4

cushellekoala · 17/04/2019 23:41

Usually have to keep pausing it so DH can explain something but he fell asleep last night!
My DH falls asleep nearly every episode after several nudges i give up and watch on my own. Then we watch again so i can try yo understand whats going on, relate to MN chat and catch any bits i missed so he can catch up with the 45 min that he didnt see!!

beanaseireann · 17/04/2019 23:51

Thank you wolfcub and CoolCarrie

FleurNancy · 18/04/2019 10:03

I never watched series 1 and thought I was managing ok but now I think I need to go back and watch it as more is becoming relevant than ever.

buggerthebotox · 18/04/2019 10:46

Series 1 is brilliant. Fabulous depiction of conflicted character(s) and threads following through to this series.

My favourite game (who needs a life anyway?) is spotting actors who have/ who are in LOD and have been in other programmes. Like helpful Plod who is now Rash(?) in Casualty.

longwayoff · 18/04/2019 12:02

Aha buggerthebotox, me too. Watched the first series of Bodies (a Jed masterpiece) yesterday and who had a starring role? The actor Patrick Baladi who plays dodgy solicitor James Lakewell in LOD. In Bodies he is an iffy surgeon. Mr Hurley. Can Jed be joshing with us? We will definitely be seeing more of Mr Lakewell soon.

buggerthebotox · 18/04/2019 13:14

I'm hoping that L-A-K-E-W-E-L-L will return too. Patrick Baladi has just the right amount of sleazy slickness about him for it. I loved when he called Steve "Ironside" in s4 (old gimmer territory that..).

Patrick Baladi was also in Stella, and of course in The Office as David Brent's boss.

LOD has also got me thinking about McClure and Stephen Graham as Combo and Lol in This is England. Great roles.

buggerthebotox · 18/04/2019 13:15

Anyone notice that Lakewell was one of the names on The List? Or did i imagine it?

longwayoff · 18/04/2019 14:56

No, didn't notice on list BUT when Steve called up a record on a past crim, can't remember who, one of the OCGs, there was a Lakewell (not James though) listed as a known associate.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 18/04/2019 14:58

Looks like they can be masons

Line of Duty part 2.
diddl · 18/04/2019 15:04

Patrick Baladi does charming/dodgy/sleazy very well, doesn't he?

diddl · 18/04/2019 15:07

Just looked at Patrick Baladi on imdb-his dad is a gynecologist and obstetrician from Libya, and his mother was a midwife.

He's in a band with keith Allen!

OneofPansPeople · 18/04/2019 15:22

@buggerthebotox I'll join you in old gimmer corner, I loved the Ironside comment too.

ChiaraRimini · 18/04/2019 15:23

Thanks longwayoff! I knew I recognised Lakewell but couldn't place him. He was great in Bodies too

thecatsthecats · 18/04/2019 15:37

Would anyone else kill to see an LoD/Midsomer Murders crossover series?

WhoWants2Know · 18/04/2019 15:42

It's bugging me that Corbett made AC-12 badges and identified himself as Steve to Ted's wife.

He said he knew that Steve had met her once. How?

Why identify himself as someone else if he's planning on killing her and leaving no witnesses anyway? And I assume that's the plan, or using bolt cutters on her door chain would rumble him.

But I reckon she's a tough cookie and won't make it easy for him.

Wolfcubisthefemalenominal · 18/04/2019 15:43

I really wish they would upload the whole lot to iPlayer so that I could just binge watch the lot
