Do we need this or is there another one already started?

I only just caught up with the second episode of the new season and had been avoiding the last thread for a bit so as not to see spoilers and it is now full!

Ignore me if there is a new thread already on the go. If not feel free to use this one mate.

Whilst I think Lise is undercover, I don't know if Ted knows. I can't imagine him standing back and letting one of his team (Maneet) be killed?

wowfudge · 15/04/2019 09:41

I think Lisa went to the brothel for a meeting. Nothing to do with being a sex worker unless she is being made to pay a "debt" to someone in a vile way?

BoldMeDontAtMe · 15/04/2019 10:18

Some questions. What did Steve and Kate say to Ted to make him immediately get rid of his laptop? I can't remember.

Is the ex copper finance guy the worst conman ever? 100K is surely far too much to ask without raising suspicion?

Is Ted playing him along to find out what he's up to as surely Ted wouldn't be gullible enough to fork out 100K.

We need to know if the spelling is significant. Can we find out if there were any errors in previous chats? If an error, it could be anyone. If deliberate, it rules out La Bungalow (who seems to be suddenly much more senior and involved than last series).

AvonCallingBarksdale · 15/04/2019 10:24

I think Ted got rid of his laptop in the scene immediately after John and Lise’s online conversation with “Unknown”. ie suggesting that Ted was the one discussing the raid with the OCG. I think...

AvonCallingBarksdale · 15/04/2019 10:28

I feel I must apologise for sharing my misgivings about this series last night. For me, it’s not as captivating as the other 4 series but I wasn’t posting to complain/moan or ruin people’s enjoyment of the thread. I’ll certainly carry on watching, it’s just slipped a bit for me from its very high pedestal. But, mother of god, it’s still better than most other stuff, fella Grin

diddl · 15/04/2019 10:29

"Whilst I think Lise is undercover, I don't know if Ted knows."

Even if he did it might be too risky to use her to get to Corbett after what happened to Maneet.

I can't help thinking that Corbett talks a load of shit & rather than exposing H wants to replace them!

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/04/2019 10:30

Ooh! Could Ted be working with Lise to expose the real OCG leader? So he is pretending to be Mr Big on the laptop?

anitagreen · 15/04/2019 10:34

Hey just recently started watching this series has this same plot line been going on since series 1? Was wondering whether to try watch from the start

KnickerBockerGlooooory · 15/04/2019 10:35

I feel like I need to rewatch it all in slo-mo; I can't compute all the twists and turns!!

TheweewitchRoz · 15/04/2019 10:37

@anitagreen it is worth watching from the start as the theme of H has been going since the start and lots of previous things are relevant.

PrincessScarlett · 15/04/2019 10:37

Yeah, not sure why Ted is carefully wrapping up his laptop if he's getting rid of it. Maybe he's stored it away from his hotel room to preserve evidence because he knew he was deliberately going to bring Gill back to his room. Rather than Gill setting Ted up, Ted is trying to suss Gill out and doesn't want her getting her hands on his laptop.

NotMyPuppy · 15/04/2019 12:05

I think Corbett has only used Arnott’s identity to gain entry to Mrs Hasting’s home, I don’t think he’s trying to frame him - I don’t think it would work.

I like the PP’s theory that it is Ted in the laptop but that he is working with Lise and masquerading as H

longwayoff · 15/04/2019 12:07

Anita, definitely watch the previous four series, there are hints and clues in all of them that will make this series less impenetrable. Well, a bit.

TedsFederationRep · 15/04/2019 12:17

Love this thread! And reporting for duty!

From the start, I've wondered if Ted is actually John Corbett's handler, having put him in place to not only bring down the OCG but primarily to help expose bent coppers, especially H. Ted might have facilitated the original raid on the drugs shipment to help Corbett climb the ladder within the OCG but definitely didn't reckon on Corbett going rogue and police officers being killed. (Hence Cafferty saying that no one was meant to be hurt).

In order to run a CHIS (Covert Human Intelligence Source) who needs to commit criminal acts as part of their cover, Ted himself as handler would have to have authority from a very senior rank....who might, unknown to Ted, be H.

Now that Ted is stuck with being the handler of a rogue UCO who has killed police officers and is beyond his control, he needed to safeguard the laptop to prove that his interactions with Corbett were strictly lawful. Meanwhile, the dodgy Kettle Bell scam is about implicating Ted financially while nasty Gill is trying to compromise him personally. Ted is being set up as H's fall guy, senses it, can't prove it, but doesn't know who he can trust.

Gah! I need a hobby!

slug · 15/04/2019 12:35

snort
Even better!!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 15/04/2019 13:25

I think Lise is working undercover with Ted. I refuse to believe Hastings is a bent bastard, although H is convinced he is.

jamiecooks · 15/04/2019 13:25

I think property deal ex copper from pub something to do with it. He referred to Hastings having sold family home and wife being in a pokey little flat, then Corbet turns up at the ex wife’s flat?? So how would Corbett know where she lived otherwise?

And that exchange between Lisa and Corbett after the discussion on laptop re the Eastfield site along lines of “hrs one of us, but what if he’s one of them” had me really confused? Is she a copper too? The report on her seemed to suggest she was a social worker?!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 15/04/2019 13:26

DH is convinced he is, not H!

H gets everywhere now even typos!

diddl · 15/04/2019 13:26

Didn't Dot end up as part of AC12?

Think it would be a bit much for Ted to then be H.

But I do think he might have done something that makes him seem corrupt to Corbett.

Wasn't Powell Corbett's handler?

OneofPansPeople · 15/04/2019 13:54

Wild card alert....
Corbett kills Mrs.Ted, frames Ted who it could be argued had motive because of money problems and a divorce he didn't want.
That could be why we see Ted in the cells?

BoldMeDontAtMe · 15/04/2019 13:54

Love the username TedsFederationRep. Let's hope he doesn't need you, but I think he will.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 15/04/2019 14:17

"I'm not a Hargreaves fan by any stretch but I have to say his interviewing technique is very entertaining 😂"

I agree with the pp who said that Grin and I'm sad we're not going to be seeing Hargreaves any more. You looked at that actor doing his job and were just utterly convinced he was a dodgy detective! Fantastic performance from Tony Pitts.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 15/04/2019 15:03

Powell wasn't Corbett's handler.

There was a scene with Corbett's handler (vaping black policewoman with very short hair) but for the life of me I can't remember what she said about him!

TedsFederationRep · 15/04/2019 15:23

You're right, bibbity, I'd forgotten about her. Better get my facts straight then before the big fella needs me! Hmm

jamiecooks · 15/04/2019 15:35

Just realised Lise def wasn’t a social worker but had been referred to them so agree she was probs a product of abuse
