Do we need this or is there another one already started?

I only just caught up with the second episode of the new season and had been avoiding the last thread for a bit so as not to see spoilers and it is now full!

Ignore me if there is a new thread already on the go. If not feel free to use this one mate.

I think Gill is the big cheese too now you guys mention it.

Italiangreyhound · 14/04/2019 23:34

Yes, that 'her' was very pronounced. kettle I agree!

MsFanackerPants · 14/04/2019 23:36

I wonder if Gill has gone to get something that was stashed in the loo cistern. Ted reported it, then found it was still broken. What if Ted had a wee look and found that something had been hidden in there and was blocking the flush. I don't know what that something is but there is definitely (or definately) a lot of attention being drawn to the toilet in that hotel room

MerryInthechelseahotel · 14/04/2019 23:43

Mother of God what next?

Sarcelle · 14/04/2019 23:52

Me and my DH are bailing out. Bored by this series. I couldn't give a damn who H is now. I was riveted by last years.

Wingedharpy · 15/04/2019 00:02

Aaah.
That makes sense then.
I never saw series 1 so didn't know about the DNA thread.
Thanks for making that clear.

NotMyPuppy · 15/04/2019 00:02

If Hargreaves was being blackmailed that could explain him showing up at the raid but wouldn’t explain why he volunteered the information about the trackers?

Marmitemakesmehappy · 15/04/2019 00:02

I am struggling. I want Corbett to get more interesting. At the moment I am really trying to care, but he is not a patch on the 'anti-protagonists' we've had previously.

I also don't like the new relationship between Kate and Steve - I preferred it when they held equal rank.

GB is definitely up to no good. I reckon her little 'joke' about Ted being sexist earlier was her planting a seed that will push him towards dismissal/blackmail/something. Whatever happens in that Travelodge will only make things worse.

Don't believe for a minute that Hargreaves is H. He is too irrelevant. and it's too soon. Plus Jed Mecurio hinted that we might have to wait until Season 6 for the big reveal.

I need to go back to the bit when Dot was blinking and see if he definitely indicated 'H' and not something else.

WhenIsTheEasyBit · 15/04/2019 00:19

Delurking to agree with PPs who are bored with balaclava business. Have been mad keen fan since S1 ep 1, but struggled to stay focused tonight.

Gill B is cardboard cutout femme fatale / ballbreaker.

Lise has zero energy or charisma.

Why would the top bent copper have turned up to the heist? What possible benefit would there be to him / her?

And Ted's personal life is sooooo tedious!

Really hope Jed's got something up his sleeve (better than Bodyguard tosh) as I would hate to see it stop being fab telly.

Marmitemakesmehappy · 15/04/2019 00:33

@WhenIsTheEasyBit agree about bent copper turning up to heist. Makes no sense as presumably they'd steer well clear and just pull strings from afar.

Lise is ridiculous. Not sure if she's badly written or badly acted but she is unconvincing and boring as fuck. I'm not sure if she's a bent copper, undercover copper, hardened criminal or someone's third cousin who's along for the ride.

Steve's waistcoats are cheering me up though.

Pengrin · 15/04/2019 00:47

I wish this thread was purely for theories and discussing the bits people enjoyed.

Such a pain having to scroll past the whinging comments. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it? Confused

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 15/04/2019 00:52

I'm definitely getting a bit over invested by wondering if the significance of H or whoever the person is communicating to the OCG via laptop is called "user 2972" could be a clue or a deliberate red herring?

Date of some significance (birth/marriage) 02/09/72 or 29th /1972

Badge Number

Code for letters (2=B 9=I 7=G 2=B) - BIG B - Gill BIGgeloe or Barry Lightwater (Chief Constable of the East Midlands Constabulary)

I really am overthinking it Blush

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 15/04/2019 01:09

I'm wondering if the clues are in the names as JM does like to use names as hidden in plain sight clues & red herrings.
Lisa McQueen: good guy as thinking of Steve McQueen who played not so obvious good guys like Virgil Hilts In The Great Escape, Tom Horn in Tom Horn, Frank Bullitt in Bullitt.
Gill Bigelow could be the 'H' as in she's the Mr Big but hidden.
Ted Hastings well I can only muster up the Battle of Hastings & Ted will soon be having the battle of his life.

One thing I will definitely agree on is next Sunday cannot come too soon Grin

KittyWindbag · 15/04/2019 02:55

I cannot believe people are coming on here and saying 1) that Stephen Graham lacks charisma?! What the actual eff. The man’s a charisma machine. And 2) that this series isn’t gripping them. I’m on the bloody edge of my seat.

Lisa is clearly a former victim of child grooming who hasn’t joined the gang right. I reckon she confronted Hargreaves who was a former abuser.
This would explain a lot about her character, the split between wanting jobs to go well but also not wanting to know too much/ saying things like ‘these are bad people’ etc. Anyone else agree?

KittyWindbag · 15/04/2019 02:56

Sorry I mean who *has joined the gang. We briefly saw steve looking at a social services document relating to Lisa McQueen which adds to my theory.

dogsdinnerlady · 15/04/2019 06:42

Surely if that cop who skidded car off the road had oil on his hands it would have been from when he was sitting down in road after the 'crash'. Why would an officer about to be charged with a serious offence not come up with an excuse?

Bookworm4 · 15/04/2019 07:00

The anonymous laptop chat supposedly from the boss to John is ridiculous, we were made to think Lise was earning her place i.e. was below John in the OCG yet she's the one that's getting a call to arrange these 'chats', I don't think anyone in John's position in an OCG would entertain this.
Gill is beyond dodgy, stay away Ted!

placemats · 15/04/2019 07:29

Mrs Hastings knows Arnott because she has met him before.

I reckon she'll knock Corbett over the head with a hammer, he'll be in jail and all hell will break loose.

Corbett probably did fire low to avoid injury but someone else shot too and not a member of the OCG.

placemats · 15/04/2019 07:30

I agree with KittyWindbag re Lise.

beanaseireann · 15/04/2019 07:33

What was on the computer that Hastings got rid of ?
Corbett setting up Arnott re Mrs. Hastings !!!

OneofPansPeople · 15/04/2019 07:37

Completely agree with KittyWindbag about Stephen Graham, I love the way his character is starting to unravel and lose it, he's so obsessed. Not understanding the change in dynamic with him and Lise though I must admit.

wowfudge · 15/04/2019 07:40

There's definitely a big plot twist coming.

StoorieHoose · 15/04/2019 07:40

I can't believe a PP thinks Vicky McCLure is a wooden actress! She is amazing in This is England as is Stephen Graham. I defy anyone to watch This Is England 86 and think that she acting is wooden

JinglingHellsBells · 15/04/2019 07:45

I've lost track of who Gill is, but I think she's H or very close to H.

I reckon Ted will be shagging her when his wife is trying to call him and he will see her no on his phone and ignore it.

There is also the possibility though that H is someone who seems squeaky clean, like Kate.

Piggywaspushed · 15/04/2019 07:46

I do hope they develop Lise's character. It's interesting to see a woman in an OCG wielding guns and giving orders. I hope she isn't just there for representational purposes, though. Agree that the children's home background will probably be important.

The 'her' that Maneet's cousin was referring to was quite obviously Maneet though in context?

Twitter was ablaze last night about the spelling error! Jed and co are all on Twitter so wonder if Jed will respond in any way. I follow MC and VM on Twitter and happen to know MC can't spell definitely! But that would be method acting too far if he was typing the messages himself! Quite famously, there is a spelling error in Dark Knight Rises (also on a screen) and I think there was one in Spectre, too. So it could just be an accident. As an English teacher that word is a bete noir so , who knows LoD may happily have drawn attention to a misspelling for all those grateful GCSE students and their teachers Grin
