Given we are only a week away from the final season, I thought we should have a shiny new thread to discuss the episodes as they are broadcast.

Anyone else going to be starting their watch at 2 am on Monday 15th?

I've watched the trailers and teasers dozens of times, and I am READY!

I have a theory that the Battle for Winterfell in Ep 3 will be lost, and they will have to move south, re assemble at Dragonstone or Kings Landing. After all, here are three episodes to fill after that!

DesdemonasHandkerchief - I like your theories but I disagree with 11, due to a line in one of the books.

It's one of the royal weddings, where there's a troop of dwarves entertaining the guests, and one of them refers to Jaime as the kinslayer, not kingslayer.

Apply this to the series' title and you get A Son of Ice and Fire, which is JS, being the son of a Stark and a Targaryean. Whether that means he ends up on the Iron Throne I'm not sure, but it does, I believe, underline that the whole saga is, ultimately, about him.

And if Samwell is the narrator it makes sense that he would put his friend at the centre of it all.

AGirlHasNoShame · 14/04/2019 18:35

Desdemona I agree, the show has form for dropping in little reminders then they turn out to be important.

The valonqar prophecy in the book meaning 'little brother' who is supposed to kill Cersei in the end is an interesting one. On the show Maggy the frog prophesied that Cersei would have three children and it's already been revealed early on (show only) that Cersei had another baby who died and she is apparently pregnant again so who knows how much store to set by the prophecy on the show 🤷‍♀️

SweetSummerchild · 14/04/2019 19:08

11) Jon Snow (aka Aegon Targaryen) and Daenarys will ultimately rule the seven kingdoms as spoilered by the book series title A Song Of Ice (Him) and Fire (Her).

Sorry, can’t agree with this.

"He has a song," the man replied. "He is the prince that was promised, and his is the song of ice and fire." He looked up when he said it and his eyes met Dany's, and it seemed as if he saw her standing there beyond the door. "There must be one more," he said, though whether he was speaking to her or the woman in the bed she could not say. "The dragon has three heads." ACoK, Daenerys IV

That was from Dany’s vision in the House of the Undying of Rhaegar’s conversation with Elia Martell. Rahegar’s obsession with prophecy led him to obsess about having a third child which led to the mess of Robert’s Rebellion.

Jon is the song of ice and fire, if there is one at all, being the son of Rhaegar (Fire) and Lyanna (Ice). Or it could be GRRM giving everyone a big middle finger and warning of the dangers of allowing actions to be dictated by ‘prophecy’.

@Time That line about Jamie being a kinslayer could refer to the teenage relationship between Joanna Lannister and Aerys Targaryen. Some people believe Aerys fathered at least some of the Lannister kids. Which I do not believe (because then Aerys would have encouraged Rhaegar to marry Cersei) but I imagine people could joke about it.

BelfastBloke with Now TV, each episode is available to stream anytime from 2am on Monday.

TheFirstOHN · 14/04/2019 19:14

I read somewhere that GRRM began with the scene where they find the direwolf cubs, and then the story grew from there.

TheFirstOHN · 14/04/2019 19:17

I'm still not convinced that CL is actually pregnant (we have only her word for it), but if she is and it's a boy, perhaps that could be the 'little brother' that kills her. A pregnancy later in life would potentially have more complications. Didn't her mother die in childbirth?

AGirlHasNoShame · 14/04/2019 19:19

She did, Joanna Lannister died in childbirth with Tyrion

SweetSummerchild · 14/04/2019 19:20

TheFirstOHN she died birthing Tyrion. Then again, just about everyone seems to die in childbirth in Westeros!

It would be ironic if she died birthing a dwarf. GRRM would definitely go there, but I doubt D&D would.

FinallyHere · 14/04/2019 19:26

@BelfastBloke Pretty sure it will be available to download on Now TV from 3am BST tomorrow. Enjoy.

Caliplums · 14/04/2019 19:38

After watching season 7 yesterday I've been wondering how far ahead in the timeline do you think they're planning on jumping? Considering we left them two years ago, are we going to see that cersi has had the baby (if she is pregnant) and how far will the whitewalkers have got now the wall is down?

BelfastBloke · 14/04/2019 19:39

Thanks for the confirmation that I can stream the programme Monday morning at a sensible time. I suspect I'll be up at 2pm though.

BelfastBloke · 14/04/2019 19:39

2am, I mean!

Ffsnosexallowed · 14/04/2019 19:54

(dragons don't get pregnant, they lay eggs)

DesdemonasHandkerchief · 14/04/2019 19:56

But not male ones 😂

ppppppickupapenguin · 14/04/2019 20:00

Anyone watching the south bank show on Sky Atlantic, they’re interviewing GRRM

ElenadeClermont · 14/04/2019 20:09

Dragons do not have a fixed gender according to some archmaesters and they can change sex.
Others think that you only know a dragon's sex if you physically see them lay eggs, and then they are female. If noone ever saw them lay eggs and they die, they were male.

agirlhasnonameX · 14/04/2019 20:32

6) Beric has run out of lives and will die, but only after doing something monumental, otherwise why have him resurrected so many times.
Didn't Beric die in s7?

AGirlHasNoShame · 14/04/2019 20:43

agirl Beric is alive, that was Thoros of Myr you might be thinking of. Red priest, flaming sword, top knot to cover baldness! Grin

SweetSummerchild · 14/04/2019 20:44

agirlhasnonameX Thoros died in S7. Beric was on the wall with Tormund when it was destroyed by zombie dragon. He is shown in the trailer with Tormund so obviously lived to die another day.

In the books Beric died giving the Last Kiss to resurrect Catelyn as Lady Stoneheart who then went on to become a made psycho killer and turned The Bortherhood without Banners into the medieval equivalent of ISIS.

In the TV series I don’t think he has any major part to play. He will die and the Hound will look sad. That’s it.

TheFirstOHN · 14/04/2019 20:49

Available on Now TV for the next 10 days.

GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8. Possible spoilers
agirlhasnonameX · 14/04/2019 20:52

Yeh I remember Thoros dying but thought Beric had died shortly after. Maybe I'm thinking about the books. Don't think he has a big part to play either though. Thanks Smile

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 14/04/2019 20:59

Disagree with Jamie not being able to hurt Cersei. I think he's going to be the younger brother that kills her, not Tyrion

I lean more towards it being ARYA, BUT wearing Jamies face. So Cersei thinks it was him when she dies. DH said thats not possible unless Jamie is dead..BUT Jaqen H'ghar used Aryas face infront of her once. So they don't have to be dead as it seems..

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 14/04/2019 20:59

No idea why Arya was all in caps like that Blush

Lweji · 14/04/2019 21:35
