Madeleine McCann documentary - part 2

There isn't space on the first thread so thought I'd start another.

I'm watching the first episode and have a couple of questions.

When Kate went back to the apartment (and found her daughter was missing) she was surprised the door was open further than it should be. Yet she hadn't been there before, had she? The friend went the previous time (and didn't bother to check the children were there) and Gerry went the time before. So why was Kate surprised to see the door further open? And why was she going to go back again without checking? The door slammed due to the open window, which made her open it to check the window.

Also, the woman (don't know her name, sorry) who played tennis with Gerry said that he was going up the hill to the apartment (for the first check) and she said, "You're going the wrong way!" and he said, "I'll be back in a minute, Madeleine's (or my daughter's) gone missing. And then when the woman heard a child had gone missing she didn't realise it was Gerry's. That sounds so odd. Not suspicious, just odd.

Not being funny, put yourself in Kate & Gerrys. Your kids missing, your surrounded by friends, police and press.

Why would you trust a random stranger who tells you she's SW?

Dizzywizz · 28/03/2019 21:36

I hadn’t read about phone memories being wiped @user1457017537, where did you see that?

Dizzywizz · 28/03/2019 21:41

I’ve found the records online re deleted calls, surprised I hadn’t heard of this before. Also surprised this formal police record refers to a lady as “busty”!!!!

ItsHardToExplain · 28/03/2019 21:51

Why would you trust a random stranger who tells you she's SW?
Yes I think most people would not trust them and even be scared to speak to them.

Butterymuffin · 28/03/2019 22:18

I wouldn't immediately trust some random in that situation either.

Any links to this info about deleted calls?

user1457017537 · 28/03/2019 22:54

Sorry I don’t know how to link

Keba1931 · 29/03/2019 07:28

Does anybody else wonder when was the last time the mcanns visited Portugal. Surely you would go over at LEAST once a year?
I know I wouldn't leave the place

There was a lot to read but the bit that jumped out for me was :

So the bottom line is that Kate McCann was in Apartment 5A when Madeleine cried for her father between 22.30 and 23.45 on Tuesday 1st May 2007, leading to a unique flurry of late night calls and to unique calls very early the following morning.

huntinghighandlow · 29/03/2019 08:37

If poor Madeleine was crying for that long, why didn't Kate just take the children to the tapas bar and say to Gerry 'get back and help me look after the kids' The 'busty' tennis coach invited to dinner had obviously upset Kate as she was not seen at dinner (I would be livid too!) Gerry knew this and still stayed there late.

Also when doing their checks why didn't the rest of the group hear the crying when they went past 5a?

peridito · 29/03/2019 08:55

Is that the night Kate went back and slept in spare bed in children's room - she to;d police she was annoyed with Gerry .?

Do you reckon she could have disturbed Maddie ,hence crying ?

peridito · 29/03/2019 08:58

why didn't Kate just take the children to the tapas bar and say to Gerry 'get back and help me look after the kids'

carry the twins and a crying Madeleine over to Tapas bar ,which was what 50metres ?

peridito · 29/03/2019 09:00

I don't think that it's certain that Kate wasn't at dinner

At around 8.45pm on Tuesday 1st May 2007, Miss Nejoua Chekeya, the Ocean Clubs busty Aerobics Instructor, held a 'Quiz Night' and was later invited, allegedly by Gerald McCann, to join his table which she did sometime between 9.30pm and 9.50pm. She did not say how long she had remained with them, but she is not the sort of woman men would wish see to leave too quickly. Miss Chekeya stated that one dinner setting was unused and that she could not remember seeing Kate McCann.

However, both Jane Tanner and Russell O'Brien have stated that he did not go to the Tapas Bar on the 'Quiz Night' (ie Tuesday 1st May 2007), but had stayed in their room looking after his sick daughter. Jane Tanner took his dinner to the room; thus explaining the unused plate setting. Russell O'Brien was not asked by either the Polícia Judiciaria or Leicestershire Police whether he had heard Madeleine crying!

Stranger and stranger

EdtheBear · 29/03/2019 11:14

Keba you have no idea if you'd visit Portugual or not or how often you'd visit. No need to be judgey on how often they visit.

I imagine the last place on earth they'd want their twins to be is Portugal. I'd think they'd be constantly on edge in case they disappear too.
Given the amount of time they must spend on the Madeline campaign, time working, family time with their other children is still important.

That report isn’t written by the police, it’s a private investigation agency’s interpretation of what happened, and seems to be biased against the parents plus probably doesn’t have the whole picture.

In terms of missing calls / texts, this was in the very early days of smart phones, and I remember when I was waiting for trains and the like, spending the time clearing my inbox to make space for more messages etc. It’s perfectly possible that with the amount of sitting and waiting the McCanns we’re doing, they did the same. They may have even explained this to the police, and the authors of that website just don’t know.

huntinghighandlow · 29/03/2019 19:11

Kate deleted every message except a wrong number which is very odd

Frangipane · 29/03/2019 19:29

Sorry, this quote is from yesterday but I am only just catching up with this thread.

Re Kate's initial reaction. She and Gerry would most likely leave the kids door in the same position hence noticing the difference.

But one of their friends was supposed to have checked on the children inbetween Gerry's and Kate's checks. Surely you wouldn't find it odd to find the door had changed if you knew your friend had been in the apartment?

3catsandcounting · 29/03/2019 19:58

frangipane - yes, I thought the exact same thing.

good point MrsFiona

ScaredofMomo · 29/03/2019 20:15

What I don't understand is the door slamming. Surely that only happens if there's a through draft??

HollowTalk · 29/03/2019 20:20

I thought the query about the position of the door was odd. Kate went to see the kids. Then one of the guys did. When Kate came back she was surprised that the door wasn't closed in the same way. That didn't make sense to me and I do not think Kate had anything to do with it, I just wondered whether I'd misunderstood.

@HollowTalk I am with you on the other member of the group. Those files are just appalling.

There is too much smoke. So many things.

Accident, tennis bag, boat.

ChorleyFMcominginyourears · 29/03/2019 20:40

I've just finished watching this tonight and I must admit before watching it I did have my suspicions about the McCanns involvement, but now I don't think they had anything to do with it. I hope the truth comes out one way or another in my lifetime.
