Madeleine McCann documentary - part 2

There isn't space on the first thread so thought I'd start another.

I'm watching the first episode and have a couple of questions.

When Kate went back to the apartment (and found her daughter was missing) she was surprised the door was open further than it should be. Yet she hadn't been there before, had she? The friend went the previous time (and didn't bother to check the children were there) and Gerry went the time before. So why was Kate surprised to see the door further open? And why was she going to go back again without checking? The door slammed due to the open window, which made her open it to check the window.

Also, the woman (don't know her name, sorry) who played tennis with Gerry said that he was going up the hill to the apartment (for the first check) and she said, "You're going the wrong way!" and he said, "I'll be back in a minute, Madeleine's (or my daughter's) gone missing. And then when the woman heard a child had gone missing she didn't realise it was Gerry's. That sounds so odd. Not suspicious, just odd.

Strange question because none of us can possibly know can we?

But quite possibly less time would have been spent chasing false leads. There was massive focus for ages on an alleged ‘abductor’ and an artist’s impression of this man, which was subsequently discounted. A reconstruction would have helped to clarify an accurate timeline ... where people were at what time, and would have helped jog people’s memories. It’s impossible for individuals to be able to recall details accurately but a reconstruction would have triangulated the events. It’s quite possible that greater accuracy in the details would have influenced the investigations.

Interesting reply .

Is it strange to wonder what might have happened ?

Your response makes it obvious that you have .

acciocat · 31/03/2019 09:45

I didn’t say it’s strange to wonder what might have happened. I said it’s a strange question: to ask another poster how we think the police investigations might have proceeded if the waters hadn’t been muddied over time lines. None of us can possibly know how that would have influenced the focus of investigations.

Of course it’s not strange to wonder what actually happened... goodness it’s one of the major unsolved mysteries of the century!

thank you !

Never doubted the parents. Don’t know how anyone can say it’s the parents.
I feel so sorry for them, they’ve been distraught from day 1. Theres simply no evidence -whereas Portugal has a reputation for trafficking.

My mate was working the in lab that analysed the blood results and was very clear they meant nothing.

The Portuguese police were a disgrace putting the idea to the media on dodgy prelimary results. That one thing it what’s caused people to doubt the mcanns and in doing so many won’t be looking for her

How they expect them to had returned to the apartment at 6:30pm and gone for dinner at 8:30 - and in between that have an accident, conceal and create a plan that they can carry off in that time is ridiculous. Agree with pp - they’d both have to be psychos! Plus are people suggesting the group knew? So therefore the plan was made between 9 and all 9 kept up the lie for 11 years?!

It’s impossible

ScaredofMomo · 31/03/2019 10:43

Did the family actually say they knew she was abducted because of The toy being in a high shelf? I thought the media made that up. There isn't even a high shelf in the bedroom is there?

acciocat · 31/03/2019 10:57

‘My mate was working the in lab that analysed the blood results and was very clear they meant nothing’

Pretty sure a ‘mate’ shouldn’t be discussing forensics which is part of a police investigation! Wink

Sunshine1239 · 31/03/2019 11:05

She didn’t mention the details as such - just that’s the woke lab was furious with the press leaks given the results didn’t say that, obviously they couldn’t go the press themselves to clarify

caughtinanet · 31/03/2019 11:11

I think you can see a wardrobe type of cupboard in the bedroom photos, wasn't it said that the toy was on top of that?

huntinghighandlow · 31/03/2019 11:18

‘My mate was working the in lab that analysed the blood results and was very clear they meant nothing’

Course she was Grin

huntinghighandlow · 31/03/2019 11:20

The results of the tests are in the police files, that's where the press got their info from.

MyEyesAreNotDeceivingMe · 31/03/2019 11:26

The podcast was basically saying that DNA technology has moved on hugely since the original DNA tests and there are more advanced methods that can be used now.

Sunshine1239 · 31/03/2019 11:27

No the rest results weren’t released for a while. The Portuguese got prelimary results which they leaked to Portuguese press

The full report didn’t get published for weeks

Sunshine1239 · 31/03/2019 11:27

The Portuguese journalist even stated on the documentary that the olive were leaking bits

Sunshine1239 · 31/03/2019 11:27

Police

Butterymuffin · 31/03/2019 19:58

In Kate McCann's book she describes the toy and blanket being where they had been left, i.e. on the bed, but Madeleine gone. I remember the stuff about the cat being found on a shelf being in the press but don't know where that came from.

We don’t know what the truth is.

Whatever happened is puzzling indeed though.

Hi,

Just a reminder to everyone that while we don't mind hosting a discussion about this documentary, we will obviously have to delete any posts that are pure speculation or just not in the spirit of the site.

We'd like to remind everyone of our Talk Guidelines, and also that we're here to make parents lives easier and as a place of support. We'd really appreciate it if everyone could bear this in mind when posting.

If anyone spots any posts that they think we should take a look at, please report them to us.

Thank you.

huntinghighandlow · 01/04/2019 12:36

The police said the blanket disappeared several days later and fibres were found in the car they hired but no blanket to cross match. It was pictured on the bed, but on Oprah, Kate said that sometimes she asked herself if the person who had taken her would cover her up with her little blanket so she was warm and comfortable.

Sunshine1239 · 01/04/2019 13:02

But I thought the police were handed both the blanket and the cuddle cat to get madeleines scent so if it’s gone missing then where did police put it?

huntinghighandlow · 01/04/2019 13:50

The police officer in charge thought it odd that the pink blanket had vanished a few days after they had first searched the apartment . Kate definitely said in the interview that she hoped the abductor had covered Madeleine over with her little blanket. But the blanket was photographed on the bed so how could that be?

Sunshine1239 · 01/04/2019 14:16

In all the commotion afterwards maybe the Portuguese police took it for scent etc and it suits their agenda to say they never had it and it’s missing🤔

Igottastartthinkingbee · 03/04/2019 14:29

I’ve started watching this, I’m about half way through, it’s so compelling. The dogs ‘evidence’ made me feel sick but the lack of corroborating evidence puts that to bed.

But I’m increasingly coming to the conclusion that she’s been trafficked. And it’s possible that the children had been sedated, making her very easy to abduct. I can’t be the only one who can see that they would be sorely tempted to do that with a three year old and toddler twins. Especially with them being doctors. A mystifying case, it must be hell to live with.
