New documentary due to be released on Netflix on Friday.

I've covered this subject quite extensively while I was studying law. I will be watching with a heavy heart, it is just one of those cases I can't let go of sadly.

Anyone else going to be watching?

I'm not expecting it to reveal anything unknown particularly but I still find it interesting to see what happened at the time and the context of it all. Halfway through episode 2 so far.

CakeNinja · 15/03/2019 11:30

Halfway through the first episode, all rehashed stuff that has been trawled through before time and time again. Very boring! Will not be watching the rest of them but can’t drag myself up to get the controller at the moment!
Not sure what I was expecting, of course there’s nothing new as we’d have heard about it long before this was made.

NoCauseRebel · 15/03/2019 11:34

I can’t see the point in these documentaries tbh. Everything is just theory. There was no evidence either way and everything is speculation either way.

Also, I imagine that because the twins are now getting older the parents are having to reduce their public presence in this case, precisely because of the theories etc out there.

For those of us who remember when it happened and all the speculation about it at the time I imagine there will always be a thought of what really happened, but nobody will ever know sadly.

Well the original investigation was such a clusterfuck, and media and family influence was so vast, that there's certainly scope for someone to take a holistic, rational look that improves on that.

Whether this series will be that holistic, rational look, nobody can know until they watch it.

Making a Murderer set a high bar for long-form documentary that also delivered a social good.

runandbehappy50 · 15/03/2019 12:28

On episode 4.....very interesting

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 15/03/2019 12:34

I don't have Netflix so can't watch this. Hoping the thread will not be pulled. I remember it all from the minute it started.

runandbehappy50 · 15/03/2019 15:01

I'm nearly at the end of episode4. Very interesting

ColeHawlins · 15/03/2019 15:05

A lot of this is reinforcing my view that Gerry M's control freakery made for dodgy optics.

Some of the things that the Portuguese journalists cite as suspicious just aren't really.

ItsHardToExplain · 15/03/2019 18:28

Do reddit ban discussions about this story?

Soubriquet · 15/03/2019 19:29

I’ve just watched the first episode and the first thing I noticed was how distressed the parents are

I really don’t believe all these “the parents did it” bollocks.

Considering how close morroco is by boat, and could have easily be transported there before anyone thought to check the docks

BayandBlonde · 15/03/2019 19:53

I will be watching now you've mentioned it. I wouldn't have known otherwise

It will certainly be interesting to watch. Not wanting to derail this thread into did or didn't they, but like many something isn't quite right with it all

runandbehappy50 · 16/03/2019 00:01

Yes, the parents distress is tangible. No way is it fake

bizzey · 16/03/2019 00:04

What is the title please. Cant find it on netflix.

runandbehappy50 · 16/03/2019 00:32

It's on the recently added bit

bizzey · 16/03/2019 00:52

Thank you ..i found it

WolfhoundsofLove · 16/03/2019 03:08

OP if you’ve covered this subject extensively whilst studying law, I’m surprised you haven’t managed to spell her name correctly.

This.

How embarrassing.

LaurenOrdering · 16/03/2019 03:18

Have watched this first episode. I'm really hoping it triggers memories & brings in new leads.
I'm also wondering if any of the people involved in the making of the documentary know what really happened (if something untoward did happen rather than Madeleine just wandering off & getting into difficulty).

AngelaSchrute · 16/03/2019 03:41

How could they possibly know what really happened, Lauren?

darksideofthemooncup · 16/03/2019 09:26

I'm on episode 4. The one thing that has always struck me and is now reinforced with this documentary is that if they had had anything to do with their daughter's disappearance why would they continue to search for her? It's one hell of a double bluff to keep up.

NorthernRunner · 16/03/2019 09:34

I only watched the first episode last night, it brought up a lot of questions for me. I know we don’t all react logically when something bad happens but why didn’t they call the police the second she was gone...
To be honest the whys and what ifs are easy in hindsight aren’t they?!
I will watch the rest but I’m not looking forward to it!

Yes. If she had anything to do with the little girls disappearance, surely the parents would be quiet now and thinking “thank fuck that’s all died down. We got away with it!!”

But they haven’t. They have continued to push it as much as they can. Not something someone who is trying to hide something would do

Soubriquet · 16/03/2019 13:19

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if there was a teenaged girl out there watching TV and thinking “hey that looks a bit like me when I was little!”

But I doubt it. I really do think that little girl isn’t alive anymore Sad

Prequelle · 16/03/2019 13:22

I couldn't watch it after I got to the part about the missing boy who had turned up in the 'Wonderland' pictures. It broke my heart
