The thread is full.

The virus is spreading will Holby be ok?!

Next week's looks bad!

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 25/01/2020 22:14

I quite enjoyed it this week. The sisters in the breast cancer story were quite moving and I felt sorry for Marty (although, are there only three gay men in Holby? What were the chances of THAT storyline happening?). I still don't care about Duffy. I was relieved that she'd been put in a home because I'm finding the whole "Charlie struggling to cope" thing incredibly tedious, so my heart sank when she turned up back at home.

I liked Archie being all calm and competent. Her character is definitely growing on me.

Squigean · 26/01/2020 06:21

Didn't quite understand the Marty story (ignoring the madness of the plane hijack, presuming in Holby Airport, and the unlikely coincidence). It was mentioned that the 30something year old only had affairs with men 'no one else wanted'. Didn't understand that, why is Marty unwanted? He's nice looking! DH was watching with me - very rare occurrence - and commented on it not being very realistic that staff would be smouching with their partners out on the floor. Bless him, he's just not aware of Holby's alternative HR department rules.

Think the Duffy storyline is pushing Charlie's acting skills to breaking point (can't recall the actors name!)

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/01/2020 07:49

No Rash in that episode Sad.

Not sure that Connie would have earned Archie's trust that quickly.

Agree about not understanding why Marty was put in the men no one else wanted category. I would have thought him very much a 'catch'.

bakedbeanzontoast · 26/01/2020 08:29

At least there was none of Ruby's annoying sister. Also didn't understand why Marty saw himself as in wanted. Missed Dev as I quite like him. And Dylan too.

JustDanceAddict · 26/01/2020 08:50

I was confused re Marty too. Is there a certain type of gay man that’s preferable to other gay men? He seems nice to me in looks and personality, but I’m a straight woman.
There is no way Charlie will cope w Duffy long term. Even my martyr MIL had to put FIL in a care home when he became too much at home (and he lived another two years).

purpleme12 · 26/01/2020 09:07

Did no one see the advert for next week's straight after?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/01/2020 09:09

No, @purpleme12. What did it show?

purpleme12 · 26/01/2020 09:12

Duffy goes missing. Everyone's worried and it shows them finding her she looks unconscious at least (dead?)

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 26/01/2020 09:15

I thought the thing about Marty being unwanted was his feelings about being rejected by his dad. He was the one who phrased it that way, not the boyfriend. They briefly showed a flashback of his dad at the beginning to tie it in, didn't they? Of course he's a normal, nice-looking young guy who any number of men would be interested in, but he doesn't see himself that way.

I did see the trailer for next week. It looks like something bad is going to happen to Duffy and then Charlie will be blaming himself for not leaving her in the home where she could be looked after 24/7.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/01/2020 22:44

I think I fancy Archie a bit myself, and I have no latent lesbian side. I'd kill for bone structure like that.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/01/2020 15:43

I do recall reading that there's a surprise romance for Connie, so maybe you've hit the nail on the head @FrancisCrawford!

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/02/2020 18:29

I guessed about Marty married lover

purpleme12 · 01/02/2020 21:18

Why is he calling her Lisa? I mean I know that's her name but he usually calls her Duffy doesn't he

LIZS · 01/02/2020 21:48

Not watched in forever but saw trailer this week. Is Duffy going to die ShockSad

Holby a and e seems to be suffering from same absence of patients as Letherbridge in Doctors!

FoxRedBitch · 01/02/2020 22:05

Yes!!!! At last!!!!

I hated Duffy.

but I still nearly cried

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 01/02/2020 22:06

BAWLING. I couldn't stand Duffy either. I think I must be ovulating or something.

blodynmawr · 01/02/2020 22:10

Agree.
Slight blubbing but relieved storyline is (almost, bar inevitable wistful Charlie at funeral etc) over.
Badly need new characters and plotlines...

Squigean · 01/02/2020 22:24

All we need now is for Charlie to leave too. He has to be retirement age!!

spiderlight · 01/02/2020 22:30

I was totally fine until the very end where she's smiling at the door and then she walks off. That did get me, I must admit.

Defenbaker · 01/02/2020 22:45

I thought it was quite well acted, and the way the staff all lined the corridor as she was taken through for the last time was a nice touch.

I'm puzzled by the hostility to Duffy on this thread... I know she had the fling with Bill but wasn't that partly due to the dementia making her act out of character?

Anyway, I'm glad they didn't drag the story line out any longer, because for people like me who have lost someone to this awful disease, it was all a bit close to home and quite upsetting.

I liked the montage of Duffy and Charlie's earlier scenes together, and the part where she just made a final appearance in the doorway before smiling at Charlie and moving on her way was nice. I felt quite wistful at that, as it's the sort of thing I would have loved to see when my parents passed on, but I never witnessed anything supernatural of that kind. It must be a real comfort when such things happen.

FoxRedBitch · 01/02/2020 22:49

I hate Duffy because she was acted so badly.
