...tomorrow and I’m excited!! Anyone else?

Get on my screen Jimmy Perez!

It looks great from the trailer too...

Rhona being off Agree. I picked up on that too. Maybe she's involved? The implication (was it from Alice?) was that people trafficking involves people from all corners of a community, even the police sometimes. She seemed very keen to put Olivia centre-stage for the Prentice murders and a whole lot less keen on Jimmy and Tosh going to Glasgow

Agree about Sandy. I think in virtually every series he does something wrong. Maybe that's why he's on a DC?

hopeishere · 21/02/2019 09:52

I agree the script is appalling. So stilted.

I also said he's going to kill himself with that pen to DH who was sleeping on the sofa.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/02/2019 09:59

only a DC...

hopeishere · 21/02/2019 10:00

Was Rohna not up to something dodgy in the last one as well?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/02/2019 10:04

I woke up this morning thinking that the girls will be in the house that Alice's DH is doing up. Have we heard where it is as yet?

SapatSea · 21/02/2019 10:47

I thought that too. Couls be a red herring of course.

Inkanta · 21/02/2019 16:42

I hope Alice doesn't end up leaving her husband and getting together with Perez.

Lunde · 21/02/2019 16:56

Was Rohna not up to something dodgy in the last one as well?

Wasn't her former partner a corrupt Procurator Fiscal in Glasgow? (linked to the gang that raped Tosh)

hopeishere · 21/02/2019 17:46

Yes that was it.

I think there will be some sort of dalliance. She is very attractive woman.

Encyclo · 21/02/2019 19:26

In real life the actress who plays Rhona lost her husband through suicide. That scene must’ve been tough for her.

FintyTin · 21/02/2019 20:49

That’s awful! Even though it’s just a storyline it must have been extremely difficult for her.

Encyclo · 26/02/2019 21:50

Just watching on catch up now. 15 mins in. So Rhona has personal involvement. Well spotted!

Sandy’s complete ineptitude is on display for all to see.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/02/2019 06:54

You don't think Tosh's new love interest could be involved too, do you? Hope not but...

So we've still got three episodes to go. Still think Alice's DH is up to no good (and again a relatively well known actor to have such a bit part). For whatever reason she's not that into him if she's acting on her feelings for Jimmy.

I'm pretty sure it's going to turn out that the house Alice's DH is doing up is in the place on Shetland beginning with 'S' that was mentioned again last night. Could it even be the place where Tzeze is being kept?

Kinraddie · 27/02/2019 11:58

I like Tosh's new love interest, she deserves some happiness.
Enjoyed the scenes in Glasgow. I recognised the actress playing the Glaswegian detective - she played Lysa Arryn in season 1 fact fans.
Yes agree, Alice's husband will have something to do with it all and I don't predict a happy ending for Alice and Jimmy.
Series is definitely hotting up, was on the edge of my seat when Zezi escaped.

Kinraddie · 27/02/2019 11:59

Aargh - season 1 Game of Thrones I meant to say

tattychicken · 27/02/2019 21:16

Do you think Tosh is pregnant in real life?

Clawdy · 27/02/2019 22:15

Tosh's new guy is really sweet, hope it works out for them. Loved that scene with the two threads of conversation on the phone!

topcat2014 · 27/02/2019 22:23

Did they use the same street in Glasgow as they used to have in Taggart (I remember that being on a hill)?

Alice's husband was the killer in the Missing, so is a 'wrong un.

struggles to tell fact from fiction

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 28/02/2019 10:04

Pretty sure both Mark Bonnar and the one playing Alice's DH (who was also in The Missing series two) were in that thriller Undercover that was on a year or so ago

Pishogue · 28/02/2019 10:34

The script seems a bit more stilted and obvious than previous seasons to me? And I can't figure out whether Olivia is supposed to be a deeply strange character, giving to Strange Stares and Long Pauses, or whether the actress playing her is just doing something odd in depicting a traumatised mother with an unusual relationship to two adult children who are dead/missing.

But I must admit I watch Shetland because (1) the landscape of all the locations is lovely -- I love a bit of brooding seascape, bog and rain-sodden croft and (2) I fancy Douglas Henshall's slightly mad pale-eyed stare as Perez something rotten.

And I love Tosh, especially as she's clearly an excellent cop who for some reason dresses like an eighties Jackie photo-story heroine.

DarlingNikita · 28/02/2019 11:22

Sorry if these have been discussed/answered already, but I've only watched the first two, so haven't read the full thread for fear of spoilering myself:

  • why is everyone so angry? Is Shetland always like that and I've just forgotten? I don't know why Olivia was so quick to accuse Jimmy of judging her as a mother; I didn't feel that he was Confused And yes, Rhona does seem to be suspiciously aggressive about her desire to solve the murders. I know that's important, but surely if they think Daniel's sister is still alive then it's right that finding her should be their priority?
  • are we meant to know who Alice and her husband are? Were they in the last series and I've forgotten? I can't work out if she's acting like a relative or an ex but she's behaving oddly. Also, I don't remember there being very much stuff about Jimmy's dead wife in the previous series but now they seem to have picked up the idea of him as 'grieving, lonely widower' again.
  • I know Sandy has made mistakes before, but not noticing the steamed-up car and giving a frightened man in custody a pen should surely be sackable offences? And why on earth would he pop in to the cell to tell the guy he was going to see his wife? Much less try to strike a deal about passing on a message in exchange for names? Surely the boss would/should have his guts for garters for that?

Basically it all feels quite disjointed and not very easy to understand or believe.

Also, is it me or is Douglas Henshall looking quite a bit older this series?

DarlingNikita · 28/02/2019 11:22

Sorry that's so long Blush

Inkanta · 28/02/2019 18:27

Mmm - found it an annoying episode - this isn't going too well.

Encyclo · 28/02/2019 18:59

I watch for the landscape, for Tosh and Jimmy’s heartbroken smile. I never fancied Douglas Henshall in anything else, but he just embodies Jimmy Perez.

I’m pretty disappointed at how casually he’s drifting into an affair with his married friend though.

Re: Olivia, I usually live that actress but she’s driving me bonkers in this series. What is she DOING?

Sandy should be in big trouble over this. He left him on his own for 40 minutes? With a potential weapon? Terrible policing.

kaytees · 28/02/2019 19:48

@Pishogue agree that it feels stilted. The last series was so strong with well written characters, this time around it feels a bit 'over acted' from the supporting cast, especially Daniel's mum. Your point about Tosh's outfit made me laugh - I love her look but it isn't glamorous!
