I didn't understand how Daniel's mother recognised her son and daughter when she hadn't seen them since they were children. Also, she travelled all the way from London to Shetland (a mammoth trip) and didn't bother phoning first? And why did Perez put the song on in the hotel bar before actually going to search the rooms? Hope it improves a bit from the opening episode- just didn't work for me.

I think Perez put the music on so that when he was going through the rooms, he would be able to gauge the level of background noise from the song and compare it with the recording they had.

Felt sorry for Daniel's mother at the start, but she became incredibly irritating.

I find it quite strange that Jimmy's 'other dad' to his daughter is encouraging him with Alice and yet she's married...

I don't think she's involved but possible her DH (who has so far been very peripheral) is (he was the baddie in The Missing (series 2)).

Yes, the trees in the background are a massive giveaway that those bits are not filmed in Shetland. Goodness knows what state Perez’s house is inside in reality, given the mess and decay of the outside.

I missed a few seconds when my H asked me something and then Jimmy mentioned the Asian girl with the butterfly tattoo to Callum but how did Perez know about her?

New womans new house is being renovated and Chris had gone to it when she was having dinner with Perez, could be a red herring of course. However, new woman , Alice is it? could be the big cheese, Jimmy was telling her an awful lot about the case.

I think something odd is going on with Rhona. She seemed very unhappy about Perez and Tosh going to Glasgow, and was behaving oddly when they went there before (last series?). She was also rather keen for Olivia to carry the can for what happened to the Hayes family.
I also think Sandy may do something reckless. After stuffing up twice in one episode (not checking the car Jamie was hiding in and then giving Calum the pen) he might be keen to get in his seniors’ good books and back ‘in the loop’.
Very happy to be proved wrong on both counts, though.
