Anyone watching the new series?

OP posts:
MintyCedric · 05/02/2019 14:43

However, I've spent the week coming around to a Karen/Adam relationship so now I'm disappointed that Eve Myles/Paul Kaye have turned up!

Me too! So much so that I came on here to find a Cold Feet thread specifically to have a whinge about it.

I'm finding this series quite hard to watch as it's so true to life. I left my XH and got divorced a couple of years ago. We were part of a similar group of friends and although we're both individually still friends with most of those people, that, and other's commitments and circumstances mean our little gang no longer exists.

It hurts tbh.

MintyCedric · 05/02/2019 14:46

We're also similar in age to the characters on Cold Feet so we've grown up and our relationships have developed and fallen apart over the same time period (I remember the other day that XH and I bought the CF soundtrack CD in the airport on our honeymoon).

purpleme12 · 05/02/2019 14:48

This hard to watch. I'm not really the same age etc but just the issues in it

purpleme12 · 05/02/2019 14:48

Should say is hard to watch

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 05/02/2019 18:00

Me too Purple I'm also a similar age and lost a friend to BC recently.

I'm so lucky to be healthy.

Violetroselily · 05/02/2019 18:30

Heart breaking to watch David struggle and no one realising. He is probably my favourite character - so funny in such a subtle way.

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/02/2019 18:56

I do feel sorry for David but I also think he threw in the towel with Nicky far too early.

notsurewhatshappening · 05/02/2019 19:26

I love CF and was so worried the comeback would be a disappointment. It's better if anything! So well written and the actors have such fab relationships. I love Pete, Jen and Karen especially and the teenage kids are great.

littlecloudling · 05/02/2019 20:03

Surely David must have a pension he can cash in?

remainymcremainface · 05/02/2019 20:32

I agree @QueenOfTheAndals I get how living off her made him feel so uncomfortable and inadequate but he could have kept up the job hunt and got himself employment. It wasn't as if it was being a househusband or nothing (unless I wasn't paying proper attention)

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 06/02/2019 08:53

David’s pride is getting in the way of him being honest. He’s always been such a proud, stuffed shirt of a man. He’s always been the provider. Now he’s fallen on hard times (for a second time), he’s ashamed and embarrassed. His friends and exW would def put him up but he can’t see it and feels a burden. It’s frustrating and sad.

I do think the writers and Faye Ripley are doing a great job with her storyline.

I did LOL @ Dennis Pennis as the chaplain.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 06/02/2019 09:02

littlecloudling, I seem to remember that a lot of David’s financial cushion was wiped out during his divorce from his second wife. I did get tearful at him sleeping on the hospital bench with the chaplain leaving a voucher for the food bank.

Glad to see the writers have steered away from the Karen/Adam thing.

Is Karen going to find God or start knobbing the vicar, do you think?

purpleme12 · 06/02/2019 09:07

Knobbing the vicar, finding God would be a harder task I think!

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 06/02/2019 09:11

I think you’re right.

notsurewhatshappening · 06/02/2019 09:42

Is he actually Dennis Pennis? ? If so that's totally made my day 😂

OrangeJuiceandLemon · 06/02/2019 09:49

I started laughing when I saw him but couldn't place him Grin

Iamtheresurrection · 06/02/2019 09:57

I can’t take Paul Kaye seriously as a love interest after he was in Fungus the Bogeyman.

Loving this series, would say this the best out all the new ones.

Pebble21uk · 06/02/2019 10:13

I love that Paul Kaye has been cast toally against type for this. I hope he stays in the rest fo the series

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 06/02/2019 11:37

Yep notsure, Dennis Pennis was a Paul Kaye character. Paul Kaye is playing the vicar. Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/02/2019 11:45

I never watched Dennis Pennis so I think of him more as Thoros of Myr from Game of Thrones. He certainly likes a variety of roles!

WinnieFosterTether · 06/02/2019 17:24

This is such an emotional series. I like that Adam finally seems to have grown up.
The cast have been fab. My heart is breaking for Jen and David. And it's good to see a series tackling homelessness and showing how easily losing a job and ending a relationship can cause your world to fall apart.

englishmummyinwales · 06/02/2019 19:01

I think they are still aiming for a Karen/Adam relationship and it will only be through relationships which weren’t quite right (publisher and the cardigan wearing vicar) that they will realise that they want each other. I thought Karen’s comment that “if only I could jump to the box set watching on the sofa stage” was forewarning. With Adam she will . Either this series or next. Probably this.

WendyCope · 06/02/2019 20:59

I agree Englishmummy

Baffledmummy · 06/02/2019 21:50

I’m loving this series. Watched on catch up over the last week and I’ve cried at every episode. Agree with PPs - Faye Ripley is totally nailing it. Didn’t love the Karen/Adam storyline so hoping that doesn’t develop, but other than that I love it. Cold Feet at its best.

Deathraystare · 07/02/2019 15:51

Yes it is sad but I did laugh when he was asked about Lesbian and Gays and Me Too# and said his daughter keeps him abreast of trends!!!

Was a bit of a wake up call when he was interviewed by someone who had worked for him and all David had done was tell him how he liked his tea!!!
