Anyone watching?

The ads looked good but I’m a bit bored by the cliched/lazy writing already.

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 24/01/2019 08:42

Yes, why did the Serbian lady translate everything in Spanish?

The80sweregreat · 24/01/2019 08:55

I've never been a huge Cold feet fan but I agree that Hermonie Norris always looked older than she is. Enviable figure but she always seemed to play women in their late forties when she wasn't.
Plus the new ones ( I've seen a few bits as dh likes it) still has Adam as the heart throb when I think his pretty awful. I find that annoying!

roisinagusniamh · 24/01/2019 09:16

The Siberian woman said she was a Language teacher which makes no sence because there are hundreds of language school she could work at and earn a lot more !

The80sweregreat · 24/01/2019 10:23

Maybe the Siberian cleaner is actually a spy working for the company to try to root out cheats? In league with the one who showed up last night.
The woman saw them on the cctv on the day she set off the fire alarm but she didn't do anything straight away about this info : now we know why I suppose!

Absentwomen · 24/01/2019 11:28

Lloyd Owen is looking very hot. I so would. If nothing else, just seeing him is worth the hour.

When the head of compliance walked in at the end, I suspected it might have been her. Just when she viewing the CCTV footage. She focused on Sam.

Lloyd Owen - he's just enough to have my womb singing.

LanaLily11 · 24/01/2019 12:23

I have to say I was very uninterested until last nights episode, I am now looking forward to next week! Can’t quite work out where we are heading with it - Expecting there to be a huge plot twist.

ElenadeClermont · 24/01/2019 12:41

ToEarlyForDecorations I thought exactly the same. The 3rd cleaner is Serbian in real life, the boss is meant to look like Eastern European, so why bother with Spanish.
It took me ages to work out where I saw the 3rd cleaner. She was the female lead in Black Cat, White Cat and she was fantastic there as well. g.co/kgs/Hio6NK

Absentwomen · 24/01/2019 12:46

The focus seems to found a little last night.

There areany angles that are blurred.

We have:

A lone mother in emotional turmoil from a cheating husband. She's a gambler and in debt.

A financial corporation with insider trading - the skullduggery is a central point. Leaks etc.

The entrepreneurial Jess and her mum trying to increase cash flow and make their coffee shop work - High Street competition in economically challenged areas - growth of coffee shops across UK high streets.

The cleaning company with the building contract. (This is very current)

Stepmother alert - The teenage daughter who is not the eye rolling angry teenager as depicted in the first episode. Showing her depth as someone who knows her mother is in trouble - and dislikes her stepmother.

ToffeeNosed · 25/01/2019 09:12

Hmmm a few questions...

How come at the beginning of the episode she suddenly found money to gamble on the roulette wheel?

What happened to the printer company investment?

How come the lodger can single handedly lump a washing machine upstairs to his room? (And fixing a generator on the carpet. Really?)

Why the translation in Spanish?

CCTV on the stairwell but not in the offices?

When security replayed the CCTV it would have shown the cleaners walking back so you would have been able to see her face and the other cleaner who set off the alarm and ran off.

Did the woman who employs her as a cleaner not notice her coat was gone?

Every man and his dog now knows what she's been doing. Even when they invested successfully they only got about £300 return. How are they going to split that between 3 people and pay off the debts? They'd have to invest thousands & surely her mate won't lend her any more.

The eavesdropping on traders and relaying it was ridiculous.

This whole thing is a farce. The writers would have been better focusing on the serious effect of gambling addiction on her family and how it all started. They could have done a really gritty drama instead of insulting the actors to work on this codswallop.

Looking forward to next week...

DitzyPrints · 25/01/2019 09:38

Con o’neil Yes!
Good twist at the end.
Yep it’s completely unrealistic but I am enjoying it

Fusioluxe · 25/01/2019 09:47

How come at the beginning of the episode she suddenly found money to gamble on the roulette wheel?

She asked the lodger to pay a month in advance at the end of last week.

What happened to the printer company investment?

Was that the first investment they did? If so, she gambled it and lost.

How come the lodger can single handedly lump a washing machine upstairs to his room? (And fixing a generator on the carpet. Really?)

Good point!

Why the translation in Spanish?

No idea. Didn’t notice tbh.

CCTV on the stairwell but not in the offices?

Maybe that’s because the info on the screens is sensitive? So cameras only where screens can’t be viewed?

When security replayed the CCTV it would have shown the cleaners walking back so you would have been able to see her face and the other cleaner who set off the alarm and ran off.

The cctv stuff does seem muddled.

Did the woman who employs her as a cleaner not notice her coat was gone?

I expected this and thought she’d just put it back and say she’d put it on the wrong cupboard or something.

Every man and his dog now knows what she's been doing. Even when they invested successfully they only got about £300 return. How are they going to split that between 3 people and pay off the debts? They'd have to invest thousands & surely her mate won't lend her any more.

Reinvest profit... if she doesn’t gamble it beforehand.

The eavesdropping on traders and relaying it was ridiculous.

I didn’t mind that, they had to get info somehow and odder things happened in the Cold War!

This whole thing is a farce. The writers would have been better focusing on the serious effect of gambling addiction on her family and how it all started. They could have done a really gritty drama instead of insulting the actors to work on this codswallop.

That genre is not in vogue though. People want silly escapism not grit.

Looking forward to next week...

Me too

creamcheeseandlox · 25/01/2019 13:54

Con O'Neil Smile. He was ace in blood brothers.

Gemmamb · 25/01/2019 13:57

Te adverts made it look really good but been a bit disappointing so far, very far fetched and unrealistic situations what a let down

SuperSuperSuper · 25/01/2019 14:19

I have a feeling that the compliance officer has not recognised her, because she looks so much smarter (and one of the central themes is that no one really notices or recalls cleaners).

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 25/01/2019 14:30

I think she did notice her and knew her as the cleaner .

I imagine the next thing will be SS stating that she has a twin sister , to try to wriggle out of it ., Haha . I don't know for sure though.

Fusioluxe · 25/01/2019 14:32

SuperSuperSuper

Oooh! I’d love that!

southeastdweller · 25/01/2019 14:33

I thought it was clear that the compliance officer recognised Sam.

beanaseireann · 25/01/2019 20:17

I gave up after the first episode.

MrsChollySawcutt · 25/01/2019 21:36

Printer investment was rushed into the first 30 secs. End of last ep she didn't know which of 2 companies was the right one so flipped a coin. Start of this week showed her gurning 'no' because she picked the wrong one.

So that's yet another plot hole as presumably the shares in the wrong company would have been subject to much movement so she would recouped most of her money by selling them again.

JustDanceAddict · 26/01/2019 08:51

It’s complete codswallop, but fun.
I do want to see what happens. The twist of the compliance woman was good.
And as if a smartphone, the one Jess found under the desk, wouldn’t have a password to get in, no less still have battery!

DitzyPrints · 26/01/2019 08:55

I’m not sure if we’re supposed to be willing ss on to pull it off and get the money or not. She’s not the most likeable character.

The80sweregreat · 26/01/2019 09:34

I want the lodger to get it on with Jess ( who he clearly fancies) and for her to make a mint and stop gambling!
Trouble is , she might pull it off but then gamble it away again..
or cliffhanger for ' cleaning up ' part two.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 27/01/2019 12:02

Matthew McNulty is so sexy. I could just put him on a butty and eat him up.

And how could she give away her car, just like that? Surely there must have been 'stuff' inside, belonging to Sam and her daughters!

CDs and receipts and phone charger plug and such-like!

Dozyoldtwonk · 30/01/2019 20:58

Can’t blooming wait for this tonight - what an ending! Hoping it picks up from here as before 9.55pm last week it was getting a bit shit.

Wingbing · 30/01/2019 21:10

Oooh how did she get away with that! Compliance lady didn’t recognise her!
