Starts tonight, anyone else ridiculously excited about it? Just finishing up rewatching to the end of season 3 now and can't wait.

Sharon Horgan is my girl crush
Best thing she was in was Free Agents with Stephen Mangan
Who stars in the funniest show I've ever seen, Hang Ups

Agree season 4 a bit underwhelming thus far

EdWinchester · 09/01/2019 20:32

Well we love it. They’re both flawed people, but who isn’t?

The sex scenes are too familiar! Very well observed.

IcedPurple · 09/01/2019 20:39

The shoplifting thing was surely because she was acting all superior to him over his drink driving and then she did that, so they were even?

Yeah, I get why they did it as a plot device, but it just seemed out of character to me. She and Rob are reasonably well-off (look at their house!) so she was doing it simply for the thrill, which seemed out of character to me. That's why I think Sharon just seems different this time round.

Taffeta · 09/01/2019 21:48

The "reasonably well-off" thing reminds me I always shout at the telly that no way on Gods earth would they be able to afford a house like that in a chichi part of London with such expensive furniture, clothes etc

She was a teacher, he's in advertising? and is employed occasionally

shins · 09/01/2019 22:46

Urgh, didn't laugh once. It was great but it's run out of steam. I think Rob is lovely but have never found him that funny.

RuggerHug · 10/01/2019 14:24

Taffeta but isn't that why they tried to sell the house? They got it based on his large salary and when they tried to downsize found they wouldn't get their money back and couldn't get a new mortgage based on her teacher salary and him out of work?

Maybe I'm a bit obsessed but I did binge on it when tied to the couch breastfeeding DS so I feel I've survived a lot with them🤣

Well episode one was a bit blah.

Shoplifting? Where did the come from? And why is her school aged child always being pushed about in a buggy while the baby is inexplicably elsewhere?

I loved it at the beginning, and I'll keep watching, but it's not quite as good now. At first I enjoyed it because they spoke in a way that normal couples do, but now they're so often unrelentingly nasty to each other that I can't relate.

cushioncovers · 10/01/2019 15:07

Yep where was the younger child?

IcedPurple · 10/01/2019 15:08

I think they had one of those double buggy things and the baby was supposed to be inside it, but we never saw her.

ChristineBaskets · 10/01/2019 15:12

Yeah I think I saw the little one underneath.

CrookedMe · 10/01/2019 16:05

But the older one was at school in the last season, what on Earth have they got him in a buggy for at all? I know it's not important but it annoyed me, he was like a giant in it!

nevermorelenore · 10/01/2019 16:35

Sharon said she’s got two kids under four, so the older one is maybe just about school age. He was ill at birth and I always wondered whether they’d explore his issues later on or whether it was something he’d recovered from.

The giant house is a bit baffling to me too. Although Rob does seem to have a really good job and be quite senior, has his own office etc. Also, maybe he’s got some sort of family money? His mum seemed well off and even when they were ‘broke’ they were hardly broke at all by normal standards.

Is Sharon still a teacher? She was supposed to be back at work but my teacher friends work insane hours. They don’t have time to shoplift at weekends!

IcedPurple · 10/01/2019 16:42

The son was premature and apparantly very poorly for the first few months. We didn't see it because they skilled quite a bit of time between series 1 and 2, so he was already a toddler by the time series 2 started.

I also don't remember him being at school. Nursery school maybe? Also, because more time has elapsed in real life than in the series, maybe the little actor looks older than the character is meant to be?

I think Sharon is still a teacher. Remember her listening to some excrutiatingly awful school band at the start of the 3rd series? Not so sure what is going on with Rob. Did he lose his job at the ad agency? Has he managed to find another job?

midsomermurderess · 10/01/2019 16:43

I've never much like Sharon Horgan. In all her roles she is grotesquely self-absorbed and while it has has been funny in the past, or at least serving apurpose, but I thoroughly dislike it now. And I agree about the shoplifiitng. How is that funny? Just grubby behaviour.

Lottapianos · 10/01/2019 16:48

Yes Yes to Sharon's clothes. She really knows how to clash a print. Love it

Thought last night was very funny

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 10/01/2019 18:53

Is Sharon still a teacher?

I'm sure there was a shot of her sat at the kitchen table marking books in the last episode.

Spudsandspanners · 10/01/2019 19:00

Yes agree with what is being said about the huge house in London. It's not just on this show, but loads of others. You're either really dirt poor and dabble in petty crime, or middle class and living in a huge house and nothing in between. If you're in a normal professional public service role you are loaded and can afford a massive house and range rover, not just a normal terraced house with an old run around for a car (or god forbid, live in a flat with 2 kids!) I wish people were portrayed properly on TV as it is harder to relate to the charaters if their lifestyle doesn't add up.

I agree with what others have said about the show now too. Loved the first two series, third lost a bit of momentum, and while last night's was entertaining, it wasn't as funny. Think the characters are a bit less likeable and relatable now and the banter between the two main characters is different now. I preferred it when they got on with each other better.

EachandEveryone · 11/01/2019 00:20

I think we said all this during the third season. Its just too crude and not funny anymore. Im more interested in when Motherland is coming back.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/01/2019 06:48

Love it. Glad its back

MrsJamin · 11/01/2019 06:57

Glad it's not just me that feels like it's lost something. Does normal life as a family not offer opportunities for hilarious situations? So the woman has an affair with a younger man, the man gets caught drunk driving and she shoplifts? Its totally unnecessary and not funny. The first two series were some of my favourite TV of the last 5 years so quite disappointed. Hmm

Taffeta · 11/01/2019 06:58

Try Hang Ups

Much funnier!

mizu · 11/01/2019 23:12

I've just watched on catch up (am a teacher and have literally not had a minute this week Grin) and I loved it. Thought it was funny, just what I needed on a Friday night.
I too covert her wardrobe, especially the bag in this episode, think I've seen similar in Oliver Bonas.

Clionba · 12/01/2019 13:07

I really enjoyed the first couple of series, but this episode was a bit disappointing. Maybe the series will get better. I don't know why Sharon would shop lift, it seems so out of character for a feisty teacher. I thought she would have dealt with the teenagers in the park a bit better as well.

Ridingthegravytrain · 12/01/2019 13:26

I think the whole point of the shoplifting and not yelling at the teenagers in the playground was to show just how much rob’s Behaviour has affected her. So she is acting very much out of character

Hopefully now why had their chat about it at the end of the episode it it can be put to bed and things will go back to normal (cos in tv land that’s how it all works right!)

cushioncovers · 12/01/2019 13:49

I think she will return to the park and have it out with the kids on the swings.
