I'm still struggling to warm to this series, I haven't really liked any of the celebs so far or found any of the dances particularly memorable. Maybe we were just spoiled last year which was excellent.

Its a shame DJJ went as I did think he had potential, and theres no way you can look at his scoring this week as anything other than the BBC being made to force him out. We will never know if the bullying claims were true I guess, but it does all feel quite false to me. Also wondering who will be pushed under the bus next.

Only good thing about Graeme being in still is I love Oti.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 12/11/2018 07:47

I’ve said to people that this is my least favourite Strictly ever.

They need to get rid of Shirley & bring back Arlene as head judge. Bruno is awful & needs to go.

SpanishFly · 12/11/2018 07:57

I find it interesting that people are happy to take the bullying reports as gospel but not the report where it was explained as a minor disagreement and that there was no sort of "final warning" nonsense at all.

I've based my opinion of him being vile based on his own tweets from last year. Slated Craig and Bruno, then accused voters and the BBC of racism. THEN he agreed to be on the show. I have said it before, I don't think he came into it with a positive slant, my opinion is he came into it with an agenda.
A lot of people on here saying he's been thrown under a bus, but haven't said what reason there could be for the BBC doing that.
Seann was slated by the media but wasn't sent home that week.

Duckswaddle · 12/11/2018 08:02

I had high hopes for this series, lots of people I liked and I really wanted DJJ to do well.
But yes even I’ve noticed the scoring and favouritism and I’m usually oblivious to such politics!
Did anyone else notice that at the end of the show when they do the mini interviews with the other couples that only one person (Faye) had a “positive” thing to say about DJJ? And it wasn’t even that positive, something about him being there with her since the beginning...everyone else spoke about being excited for Blackpool. Usually it’s half and half isn’t it?
I don’t know anything about the news stories as I haven’t read them but that seemed a bit odd, possibly engineered.

SoupDragon · 12/11/2018 08:08

only one person (Faye) had a “positive” thing to say about DJJ?

They only showed one person. We have no idea what was cut in the editing.

Slated Craig and Bruno, then accused voters and the BBC of racism.

So, exactly like a large proportion of posters on these threads...? This is the first year that I've not notice someone make a accusation of racism but everyone has completely slated every single judge. I'm guessing you think those people are all vile bullies too?

SoupDragon · 12/11/2018 08:08

everyone has completely slated...

I didn't mean "everyone" there. Just "lots of posters"

SpanishFly · 12/11/2018 08:13

I said he was vile. I didn't use the word bully at all. Words being twisted is what causes all this hoohah in the first place.
Slating people in a chat by random viewers just isn't the same as someone with lots of followers tweeting their strong views directly at the person they're slating.
I had a bad opinion of him based on what he himself has said.

mydogisthebest · 12/11/2018 08:18

MyMumDimensionJumps, the judging seems really unfair this year. Much more than other years.

I am certainly not expert of dancing but why exactly is Joe marked so high every week and given such praise. I like him, I think he seems a nice guy but his dancing is not that great. Saturday I thought he was the second worst with Graeme being the worst.

Danny's scoring was just plain ridiculous. There is no way the judges did not do that on purpose.

I really like Danny - big fan of Red Dwarf and like him in Death in Paradise but there have been a couple of times I have wondered about his reactions in Strictly. But then I read quite a few posts on Digital Spy and facebook from people who have worked with him and public who have met him. Every single one of them say he is friendly, helpful, genuine etc.

Chipstick10 · 12/11/2018 08:21

I also didn’t like him from the beginning. Said it many times on this thread. Something very off. And FYI I read the Mail online so me not liking Danny is nothing to do with his colour. He’s a Pratt who takes himself way to seriously and his tweets from before show his attitude.

SpanishFly · 12/11/2018 08:23

Agreed 100% Chip
I also feel he's one who has been overmarked many times.

Chipstick10 · 12/11/2018 08:30

I meant that because I read the mail online doesn’t make me a racist. And anyway it appeared the Mirror in the first place . On other topics I can’t understand how Kate and Lauren are still there. They must be very popular with the public and I can’t understand why Charles is constantly undermarked. And why doesn’t Craig ever give a Ten? What the hell is he waiting for ?

SpanishFly · 12/11/2018 08:36

Charles is amazing. I'm guessing the general dislike of Karen is the issue with his marking, which isn't fair.

frwuih · 12/11/2018 08:36

AJ is on Lorraine in a bit to talk about the backstage rumours.

‘They only showed one person. We have no idea what was cut in the editing’

Yes I know that, but they usually do show a few couples say something really nice about the eliminated couple, how they’ll be missed etc. They didn’t this time. That’s all.

Dulra · 12/11/2018 08:40

But then I read quite a few posts on Digital Spy and facebook from people who have worked with him and public who have met him. Every single one of them say he is friendly, helpful, genuine etc.
This speaks volumes. I didn't know about the DJJ bully rumours only heard it here and tbh didn't know whether it was true, exaggerated or completely false but when you get his colleagues and people who have met him describing him as they have you know that it is fabricated or exaggerated. He is a professional actor also somewhat older then most of them and I would say he probably takes it a bit more seriously and is possibly a bit more intense then the others but that doesn't make him a bully!!

As for strictly in general I think it is getting worse each year. When it first came out, every week the men were dressed the same in black trousers and different colour shirts, the women wore dresses to suit the style of the dance the only time you got costumes was the Halloween special or I think one year they did Disney special. Now every week they are dressed in ridiculous costumes with ridiculous props and I do not believe that their styling and costumes don't influence voters when it should be their dancing. I couldn't believe they had Charles this week wearing converse runners how can you dance properly in them particularly when in rehearsals he was in dance shoes.

I agree this year the scoring is way off. How Bruno gave Joe a 9! His dance deserved 6s or7s. I also find the bits with Claudia and everyone fighting each other to be the wackiest on camera nauseating. I think the producers on SCD need to have a rethink after this series because it is steering away from its original concept imo.

SophieLion · 12/11/2018 08:54

Long-time lurker here Smile

I am really disappointed this series because l, like you all, I think Jo has been over-marked with several dances. I learn Latin and I don't see how Jo got the scores he did for his samba - especially when you compare it to Danny's samba (although they both had different strengths and weaknesses).

I'm very disappointed because I do want to put my faith in the judges and their fairness but something doesn't seem right. Such a shame.....

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/11/2018 09:06

They need to get rid of Shirley & bring back Arlene as head judge.

I would LOVE to see Arlene back!

She took no prisoners - you danced the dance or you got both barrels. But her criticism was always constructive, and from what I recall she didn't allow personal preference for one contestant or another to affect her judgement.

She was brilliant!

SerenDippitty · 12/11/2018 09:22

This is the worst series ever. The show is disappearing up its own arse.

ChoccyJules · 12/11/2018 09:44

The Beeb should at least be consistent with their behind the scenes shenanigans. With The Kiss (which came with video evidence) they steadfastly ignored it all for a couple of weeks whereas with this rumour they couldn’t get rid of him fast enough.

Chipstick10 · 12/11/2018 09:46

Would love Arlene back. So sick of Shirley, Bruno and even Darcey. I miss Len.

MissEliza · 12/11/2018 09:47

I agree this series has been the worst ever. For me, the only bright spot has been Stacey who I've always loved because she gives a 100% to whatever she does. Joe Suggs has been interesting too because he is so clearly enjoying it.
The whole thing with Sean and Katya was tacky. I guess you can't blame producers for them kissing but I think the public would have supported them being taken off the show rather than it being dragged out.

ppeatfruit · 12/11/2018 09:47

Well I got that wrong. Though I do think that Swanny is very good for a non dancer. Also that Danny didn't seem able to move his core very well; all his dances seemed the similar considering he had dance experience.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/11/2018 09:49

Agree with all posters saying the show is getting worse season by season.

Unfortunately the producers don't seem to care - as long as they can use malice and half-truth stories to get the viewers, they couldn't give a monkey's.

I used to love it - the elegance, the dresses, the sheer style of it all - now it's like car crash TV.

We'll never know the truth about DJJ - but I would have thought that he would have just refused to comment on anything he was asked about, rather than give reporters something to twist out of context.

James Jordan got a backlash from Mrs DJJ for saying that Danny's mother looked miserable - well, she did!

The backlash was a comment about "Bullying an old woman with Alzheimer's" I mean - really?

How is anyone supposed to know she has Alzheimer's? Who drags a relative with Alzheimer's to a loud, crowded, over-large, brightly-lit, unpredictable (in terms of screeching and booing) venue where they have limited access to either refreshments or toilet facilities, anyway? DJJ isn't shy - if producers wanted a "human interest" angle, he could easily have said - "Ok - by not my mam. It's not fair on her".

The show has just "jumped-the-shark" and lost all of its feel-good factor and integrity (same with GBBO). I only watch because I enjoy the banter on here. And I'd enjoy it even more if we were able to watch and exchange comments without "political" marking, biased judging, idiot routines, personal "journeys" (including the "I'm doing this for my goldfish, Harry< who sadly died in his plastic bag before I got him home from the fair" crap), rubbish costumes, stupid props and "stories" (just DANCE - we don't need 30seconds background about your forbidden love") and useless comments from the judges.

In earlier series' with proper judges (Len and Arlene, and Craig before he turned soft) - feedback was good or bad, gut it was constructive and helped the dancers improve their future performances). Now it's just "Oh my goodness" and "Come here and give me a hug" - just - WHY?

ilovebrie8 · 12/11/2018 09:55

This is a poor series compared to other years, I'm not loving the celebs this year it doesn't the have the seem attraction for me as previous years. Judges are biased ....Joe is way over marked and Shirley can't see past him. I find Tess really irritating and cringe. I think Graeme definitely has a crush on Oti!! I like Oti but I thought last night's dance was poor not much dancing and a lot of workout moves!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/11/2018 10:09

Don't get me started on Tess, brie!

I could write a book . . .
