A new adventure awaits us in the New World. It's going to be savage!

I don’t think it’s medically possible for measles virus to live on a doll for more than a few minutes, and be passed on by touching it.

I think herr Mueller said something like [wife’s name] and I were very sick when we got it in [german town name].

Lessstressedhemum · 06/12/2018 12:03

Could the virus live on the doll? I don't know but it was very sad to see it catch fire. All the hopes, dreams and potential of a new live burned up.Sad

I thought the uncle brought it- did he not cough at one point?

(* taking the dramatic approach that one single cough equals impending doom)

I find Jamie's account OTT at times... I admit it!

cushioncovers · 06/12/2018 18:18

Watched the first two episodes and I'm not impressed which is sad because I adore the first series. Does it get better??

JennyfromtheBroch · 06/12/2018 18:21

I think you can even tell by the lack of posts on the thread that the first couple of episodes were ropey. Number 5 has been the best so far.

snozzlemaid · 06/12/2018 18:23

Yes it does. The first few are a bit slow in places but last week's episode was a big improvement.

cushioncovers · 06/12/2018 18:30

Thanks I will persevere. Found Claire causing trouble again and Jamie having to jump in and save the day a bit boring tbh.

crumpet · 08/12/2018 01:35

Worth persevering (although I am biased). Caitriona has also just been nominated for her 4th consecutive golden globe award. In my view the series has just got better each episode.

crumpet · 08/12/2018 01:36

The last one especially has stro g echoes of s1

Lessstressedhemum · 08/12/2018 11:13

I wish Sam would get nominated for something other than general smoking hotnessGrin

I think the problem has been that there is so much to cram into the season and they only have 13 episodes to do it, so it's a bit disjointed. The last two episodes have definitely been much better, although I thought the river run episode was really good albeit difficult to watch.

I'm quite looking forward to Monday's instalment to see what Jamie and Willie make of each other and how Claire and John get on. I wonder how Murtagh will react to it all?

Yes I agree that the first few were a bit bumpy, but happy to go with them as they established the path to Frasers Ridge/set the overall story arc. They generally do quite a good job of streamlining the mass of material from the books - although the back half of the third series felt rushed, and I’d have been happy to do without most of the trepanning episode to allow a bit more time later on. Hope this season doesn’t fall prey to the same.

Lessstressedhemum · 10/12/2018 10:28

That was lovely😍

Tiredteacherlass · 10/12/2018 12:26

Honestly I thought that was a really dull episode. Nothing really happened or grabbed me... quite an anticlimax after the Murtagh moment the week before

crumpet · 10/12/2018 13:25

The tension when they all met was very well done. My favourite moment was Jamie hoicking William by the scruff of the neck - loved his expression. I thought the bath scene was beautiful, although let down by some of the dialogue - redeemed by Claire’s inability to count 😄

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 10/12/2018 16:03

Bit of a let down considering last week's episode ended with Brianna going through the stones, then... nothing!
But nice to see Lord John again even though the subtitles insisted on naming him William.
Note that the producers have give up with ageing anyone to reflect the 20 year hiatus. LJG looked exactly the same, not even a grey hair.
And Jamie is definitely younger now than he was at the printshop!

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimall · 10/12/2018 16:21

@BreakfastAtSquiffanys they're just following Gabaldon's lead though, surely? In the books Jamie & Claire are virtually OAP's and yet physically, they're still acting as though they're 25 (I agree with you, btw. But when Jamie had his hair down at the start of the episode, he looked like S1 Jamie, so I'm not complaining).

Agree with those who thought this ep was a bit meh. I'm don't like Willy (lol), either the actor or the character, so didn't care about any of that, really.

Also I'm finding SH's acting a bit irritating this season. It's all eyebrows and wry smiles. I think he's seriously checked out of Outlander (maybe due to CB getting all the nominations so he's just not bothering).

quirkychick · 10/12/2018 16:30

I like the way they are paving the way for some of the political shenanigans with the Governor's palace (doesn't that feature prominently in a later book?), the Regulators and the oncoming Revolution, trying to tie it all up a bit more smoothly.

I thought the tensions were nicely handled, too.

Looking forward to seeing Brianna through the stones at Lallybroch, with some jealous Laoghaire action. Maybe bypassing all that Brianna dressed as a man and people think it's Jamie Hmm.

Tiredteacherlass · 10/12/2018 16:52

I do think SH accruing is rather limited... the way he shouts 'clur' and often he says aye and then does this sort of internal nod thing... it's overused.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 10/12/2018 17:00

I think we should all refer to her as Clur in future!

Tiredteacherlass · 10/12/2018 17:11

That should say acting is limited rather. Although he is lovely on the eye

JennyfromtheBroch · 10/12/2018 19:42

I really enjoyed it. Also loved Jamie hoicking Willie about, as well as Claire's line to Murtagh about not being able to complain much yet. Claire was also doing a great 'I'll feed you to the white sow' face at LJG.

At times I thought the wee boy was very like SH and at others he wasn't.

Loved the ring/bath scene too but was terribly worried about their bedsheets, must be a nightmare drying laundry on the Ridge Grin

crumpet · 10/12/2018 20:37

😄 yes to the drying problems - especially as you can see their breath in some of the outdoorscenes

quirkychick · 10/12/2018 20:47

I think Willie had a mini me matching wig to Jamie Grin. In the books, don't they literally hole themselves up in the cabin in the winter? The scenery is beautiful, but in the early episodes in Wilmington and Riverrun it wasn't that convincing as somewhere hot.

JennyfromtheBroch · 10/12/2018 21:37

Yes, in the books they arrive in the autumn and are practically snowed in until the spring. I love the cabin and the autumnal/ wintery look they have going. The costumes are gorgeous again (pity about the wigs!).

SH’s nose was purple in the fishing scene, must have been perishing Grin

mateysmum · 10/12/2018 22:02

Really enjoyed this episode. The LJG actor is brilliant and the whole Jamie/Claire/LJG love triangle was working well. Didn't find the Willie actor very appealing, but I think he is meant to be like that - the spoilt aristocrat suddenly thrust into the wilderness, scared stiff his stepfather might die.
Murtagh was a bit annoying doing his best to get Jamie into trouble again (especially as this is different from the book) where Jamie is not thrust into the Regulator troubles quite so quickly.
