A new adventure awaits us in the New World. It's going to be savage!

Maybe that's why the time travelling Indian ghost took them Smile?

I think they are the boots she travelled back in.

I liked today's episode a lot. It was much easier to watch and had a happy endingGrin

There are photos of the zip boots in season 3 (on the ship and when washed up on the beach) so I guess she dusted off the sand and cracked on. I think in episode 1 or 2 she was still wearing the zipped corset. Very thrifty is Claire!

Perhaps they are the same boots then! I remember the zipped corset being discarded fairly early on in series 3 though, i just assumed the boots had gone the same way, especially since at least once she was thrown overboard without any shoes on.

CLARENCE! I was so happy to see him!

Thought it was slightly out of character for Jamie to let Claire go off on her own and not go after her for hours(? was hard to tell), especially after the 'I'd lay the world at your feet' (swoooon).

Small gripes- crappy CGI and use of stock footage when they were 'travelling' and using one of Stirling Uni's corridors as an airport- wtf!

On a shallow note, loved Jocasta's navy floral embroidered couch.

PS. Roger was an absolute arsehole to Bree and his lines didn't ring true as a young man in the 70s- they'd have been ridiculous coming out of Jamie.

I've not seen Ep3 yet but there's been a lot of talk about the zipped boots on Twitter. Terry Dresbach has said they are the ones she wore from 60s to go back through the stones.

I like the new feistier Roger. Bree would get on my nerves too. I thought she was really into him, and then suddenly she wasn't...

Also, why did Claire take the skull with her and then give it a brush up in the stream? What is she planning to do with it?

sonjadog in the book she shows/gives the opal to a group of native indians.

I'm not falling for the 'yes I kept these boots throughout all these near drownings across two continents' because at the very least at some point a servant or anyone with eyes will have seen the zip and gone "WTF is that magic"

Report
JennyfromtheBroch · 19/11/2018 21:43

In the book Jamie takes the skull to bury decently. I could believe she was trying to work out more about him.

Coincidentally I read a brilliant piece of fanfiction where Claire is a psychic (can never spell that) medical examiner and am now slightly confused.

Bree wanted to have sex and then he freaked her out with the proposal and going all virtuous on her! Strongly on Bree’s side here!

I am most definitely on Brees side after that, but it's not the last time Roger is a bit of an arse.
It was the best one this season so far but I'm still not feeling it. Its just feels like no one's heart is really in it and it's still feeling somewhat stilted and plastic to me.
Have just finished a re read of the books though and enjoyed them more on the second read.

I’m looking forward to Jamie getting back in his kilt again. The britches just don’t do it for me.

Aha - here’s a pic of the boots from last season. Yes, it’s a bit surprising that none of the servants would have spotted them before now - I supppose during the day Claire’s skirts would have been long enough to cover the zips, for no-one to see.

As for this episode, I very enjoyed it - thought it had a real flavour of “old” Outlander, and it was nice to see Jamie and Claire relaxing with each other. Rog did go from 0-60 very fast and it’s no wonder Brianna was taken aback. Hopefully he’ll come to his senses once he’s had time to reflect.

Yes, happy to see Clarence. Brilliant casting, he has a nice face.

Anyone else notice the portrait of Doughal and Gellis (?) on the wall with others at the stall where B and R get theirs?
loved it but getting a bit sick of J and C constantly getting separated followed by dramatic reunions......and Claire’s constant shrieking “Jamie!!!!!”

Loved B and R. Getting excited about their journey.

DryWhite there's another 4 books (and more to come) of Jamie and Claire getting separated followed by dramatic reunions to come Grin.

Watching some reviews on YouTube and the comments, it seems that Roger is supposed to be a little older and so more traditional uptight than Brianna. Anyway, seriously misjudged! But doesn't Roger do quite a bit of misjudging of Brianna in DoA? In the book he doesn't tell her about her parents, follows her through the stones... all things she doesn't want.

No-really?!

How would that happen?

I really enjoyed this week. Interestingly it was the first time that I have been more interested in the Bree/Roger storyline than the Janie/Claire. Can't wait until they get back to the 18th century

Have finally managed a watch. I think the info about J&C dying is in the book Bree gave Roger. So if the aren't talking, who reads it first and goes back? I'm thinking a major diversion from the storyline. I mean selling Roger to the Indians because Jamie gets a bit 'big daddy' nah, telly J is too nice. Plus it's bonkers complicated.

Does Ian go off with Myers to the Indians in doa? I can't remember and cba reading back. Just wondering if he stays and falls in love, and picks up on his storyline later. They simply have to cut some bits out.

Is that the magic shoes bit done? They are probably so sick of Claire that they ran away by themselves. If time travel wasn't enough, they chucked in a bit of woo too.

I'm watching this series, but it's not gripped me like the other series have.

Report
blibblibs · 21/11/2018 21:01

Ian ends up with the Indians because when they go to rescue Roger an Indian is killed and someone has to stay as his replacement and Ian does it.
Which means they probably will have to do the bonkers big daddy Jamie storyline.
Although I didn't much enjoy in the book I think I'm looking forward to Jamie actually taking control of something, anything!

So Ian going with Myers before Frasers ridge is a diversion from the book?

I'm thinking that Jamie is going to only be eye candy from here on in. While Claire invents penicillin and anaesthetic we can all swoon at knees and kilt.

Report
Lessstressedhemum · 22/11/2018 11:38

Ian goes off with Myers in the book and then comes back when they decide to live on FR. It would be a major departure if they don't sell Roger to the Indians, it would cause outrage amongst the fangirls.

Bree and Roger both rip my knitting but, in all fairness, in the books it takes them a bit longer to get to the proposal and it happens a bit differently so Roger is a wee bit less of an arse. He is older than Bree by 8 years and is a son of the manse, so probably a bit more traditional/straightlaced than Brianna, which accounts for some of it. However, this is not the only time he is a twally.

Jamie is a lot more than eye candy in the books so I hope they don't reduce him to that. He is, effectively, lord and master of all he surveys, or should be. Although a bit of kilty swooning never goes amiss Grin
