A new adventure awaits us in the New World. It's going to be savage!

What was the bit about Roger in the shower in this episode - was that his imagination?

crumpet · 15/01/2019 20:16

Yes - poor bugger had a wee hallucination that he’d made it back to 1970...

HeavenlyEyes · 15/01/2019 20:18

Poor Rog. Shame he didn't imagine he had better hair in his reverie too then.

Florabella · 15/01/2019 20:19

I guess it was his imagination, but a bit strange just shoved in to try and make viewers think for 2 minutes that he had gone back,

The dinner party psychology conversation was another waste of time - just why??? And Lord John would have been much more discrete in his hosts house.

I did love the scenes between Bree and Lord John, and also the scenes with Fergus, Murtagh and Marsali

legolimb · 15/01/2019 21:06

I thought Roger would go through the stones as was facing a dangerous life by staying.

He could have gone and come back with a map or some other useful knowledge.

DryWhiteagainW · 15/01/2019 22:54

LORD JOHN! I love him, very happy with this episode. And Fergus.....yum. Don’t want the series to end.
Can someone tell me when filming for S5 starts....I heard thetpres a longer break this time Sad

Lessstressedhemum · 16/01/2019 10:31

I think they start filming next month and season 5 will be out in the autumn of 2020. It's going to be a long wait but Sam and Caitriona have other filming commitments that needed to be accommodated.

If I was Roger, I would have gone through the stones, waited a day for his captors to bugger off, and then gone back again.

gamerwidow · 16/01/2019 17:22

They can’t just nip back and forth through the stones.
In the book Gellis has collected accounts of people found dead near the stones over the years and mostly likely killed in the crossing.
It has to be the right time of year, you have to have a gem stone, you ideally need a person in the time you want to travel to so you can ‘steer’ and even if you can do this is still incredibly painful and risky. You would only do it if you really really had to,if Roger goes he is gone for good.

quirkychick · 17/01/2019 07:09

When Claire goes back to find Jamie, in the books, she's pretty sure she wouldn't survive another crossing. I think they haven't really shown this in the show very clearly.

Lessstressedhemum · 17/01/2019 10:17

They haven't, have they? In the books, even being near the stones at the right time of year makes Roger collapse into unconsciousness and feel very ill. The crossing is supposed to be absolutely terrifying. The whole thing is dangerous and awful and, if Geillis is to be believed, more often than not fatal. Roger has a close call when he thinks of his dad instead of Brianna. He gets throw back out in flames. He only survives because Fiona is with him.

So you can't just pop back and forth when the mood takes you.

So you can't just pop back and forth when the mood takes you but isn't that the plot of the last couple of books? Where R&B are doing the hokey cokey back and forth?

I do hope they shove the latter books together in S5 and march through them.

gamerwidow · 17/01/2019 16:38

No they only travel back because of they don’t there’s a good chance one of their kids will die or be kidnapped. They know they risk death when travel but the first time if they don’t go their daughter dies of a heart condition which can be cured in the modern day. The second time they’re being hunted by a the Scottish extremists who need someone of Fraser blood so they are no longer safe at home.
It is an extreme step though I think the rational for going back in time the last time is flawed.

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 17/01/2019 17:36

Yeah but they all go back - and end up together and in the place they wanted to be, at the time they wanted to.
Then Roger goes off and somehow also ends up back where he wanted to be (eventually - quite frankly the whole first trip should have been edited out!)
Then Bree also goes back, with the kids, and they all end up where and when they wanted.
It's perfectly simple Grin

Florabella · 17/01/2019 18:24

I hate that whole storyline where Roger ends up in the wrong time period. The books really need to be heavily edited - there are great parts to them, and she builds great characters, but there are parts (particularly in the later books) that just drag (eg the gathering in The Fiery Cross) and storyline that could be cut completely. It will be interesting how the show deals with that.

JennyfromtheBroch · 17/01/2019 18:53

I agree, I think SH and CB in particular will do maybe 2 seasons more and that will be it. They'll have other things to do and they're both nearly 40.

gamerwidow · 17/01/2019 19:14

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit I think it’s fair to say consistency with canon isn’t DG’s thing Grin

blibblibs · 17/01/2019 19:30

I think we'll be very lucky to even get another 2 seasons.

Florabella · 17/01/2019 19:34

I think SH and CB are contracted for another two seasons, but I am sure they will want to move on to other things after that, and I suspect viewing figures will go down for the next two seasons as I don't think the stories are as strong

quirkychick · 17/01/2019 20:55

DG has admitted herself that she is not good at timelines or geography, which for books which are historical/about time travel and have numerous locations... Scotland, Paris, Caribbean, North Carolina, Boston... it's a slight flaw.

AngeloMysterioso · 21/01/2019 08:23

No Claire and Jamie at all this episode Sad a decent amount of LJG though, who I think I'm a bit in love with!

Florabella · 21/01/2019 08:28

Shame. I'll be very disappointed if they leave out Jamie comforting Brianna in labour this season - it was an important bonding moment for them, but I have a horrible feeling they might not make it as far as the birth

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 21/01/2019 09:28

Just watched the latest episode. God that was harrowing!

I am totally in love with Lord John, I'd be in a marriage of convenience with him any day.
I assume that Bonnet has escaped in the explosion.
That means we will be subjected to more weird face pulling and hunching from Ed Speelers

Macaroonmayhem · 21/01/2019 09:36

I’m afraid I did a total eye roll when the keys were dropped in front of Bonnet. The rest of it was good though and I’m another joining the LJG fan club. 😍

snozzlemaid · 21/01/2019 10:34

God, that last scene! The music worked perfectly and helped to pack a real punch.
LJG is fab. I love his character - the perfect best friend.
Sad there's only one more episode.
