old one

OP posts:
oggsfrog · 07/04/2008 00:49

think I just made a word up there...

hellsbells76 · 07/04/2008 00:49

actually should i admit that i still sob like a girl at the ending of the doctor dances despite having seen it god knows how many times? think it's because of jamie being the same age as DS, and the pure joy of christopher eccleston's performance ('everybody lives rose! just this one!' )

hellsbells76 · 07/04/2008 00:50

haha oggsfrog - seem to be a lot of DW geeks up past our bedtimes!

Aitch · 07/04/2008 00:52

i never really saw primeval, was it good? interviewed dougie henshall once, he was absolutely delish.
what was the doctor dances? i liked the empty child and that two-parter with jessica stephenson (or whatever she's calling herself now).

hellsbells76 · 07/04/2008 00:57

the doctor dances was the second part following on from the empty child when jamie got brought back from the dead ('welcome back! 20 years to pop music, you're gonna love it!' sob sob sob)

primeval was unintentionally hilarious i thought. bad writing, terrible acting, cheap effects, so obviously itv trying to hop on the DW bandwagon but without a modicum of wit or intelligence about it. ex-DP and i actually watched the whole series on dvd one night and just fell about laughing throughout...

oggsfrog · 07/04/2008 00:57

But can I be considered to be a geek when I'm about 6 months behind everyone else??

Would love to be able to watch all the episodes in the right order and without bits missing... haven't yet seen the Kylie Christmas Special...!

Is this new series any good?? Am not a fan of Catherine (Mrs Overacting) Tate... But am a fan of David (Mr Short But Horny) Tennant...

hellsbells76 · 07/04/2008 01:00

it's only one episode in so you're not that far behind! catherine tate really reigned the sketch show stuff in and gave a lovely nuanced performance with some really funny moments. it bodes well for the rest of the series i thought.

david tennant's not really short is he? nooooo!

oggsfrog · 07/04/2008 01:03

Catherine Tate can reign it in?? Surely/Sureley/Fuck, how do you spell surely without it looking like Shirley?????? not.
Bum.

ChocolateRockingHorse · 07/04/2008 09:37

Yeah - I am grudgingly forced to admit that KT's performance was "suitable"

SoupDragon · 07/04/2008 09:57

I watched it last night and wanted to smack Catherine Tate. She'd better improve (she can hardly get worse).

serenity · 07/04/2008 09:58

oggs - don't wait for your Mum to video it, you can watch it online via the BBC iplayer thingy

Partners in Crime

Aitch · 07/04/2008 10:09

i thought she was fine, BUT every so often you'd hear that swearing granny voice. now i know that's actually CT's voice but still... i'd rahter the director had pulled her up about it.

Aitch · 07/04/2008 10:10

did you see CT and DT on Jonathon Ross... not brilliant chemistry i thought. he's better on his own on chat shows.

SoupDragon · 07/04/2008 11:49

...i know that's actually CT's voice"

DT manages to shift his scottish accent for the whole thing (Why??), I'm sure she could manage a better voice if she tried.

SoupDragon · 07/04/2008 11:50

Her hair irritated me rather more than is rational too.

newshmoo · 07/04/2008 11:53

CT is average, she concedes grudgingly Aitch my DS is DW Uber Geek and gets all the regular podcasts, his specialized subject and scares the hell outs me how much info he retains on the episodes. Me I love it just dont ask me next week what actually went on.

Aitch · 07/04/2008 12:06

thank god, newschmoo, i just had to google 'jamie' and the 'doctor dances'... who can remember that level of detail?
actually i thought CT's hair was rather lush in it, but her mole is a constant source of irritation.
and yes, why the english accent, i still hear his scottish vowels every so often and his voice is charmant... stoopid welshies.

PortAndLemon · 07/04/2008 12:17

After watching the main DW DS (3) wanted to watch something else, but I told him we were going to watch Doctor Who Confidential, which was "a programme about Doctor Who". He said "A programme about Doctor Who? Oh, that would be a great thing to watch..." . I don't know where he can be getting it from... I do try to head off any potentially scary bits by describing any monsers as "silly" or "funny" (clearly this simple tactic will avoid years of expensive therapy later).

David Tennant is 6'1", I think, so not precisely short.

I did love the werewolf episode where he puts on an atrocious Scottish accent, mind. That gag alone almost justified losing his normal accent for the rest of the role.

newshmoo · 07/04/2008 12:54

Hes from paisley which is near me BTW, muy pal met him in Glasgow once and said he was just lurvely, and James Marsters from TW was in Glasgow Central station hotal when we met him, again nice guy just mental hearing his genuine accent, its pure US southern drawl, it seems wrong somehow

oggsfrog · 07/04/2008 15:03

Ahem. Apologies to David Tennant. PortandLemon is correct. He stands at an entirely respectable 6'1" - so no longer Mr Short but definately still Mr Horny .

mygirllollipop · 07/04/2008 17:20

I practice free-range parenting when it comes to DW. DD3 has been watching it since she was 1 (she didn't like Blink), she was as excited as the rest of us to watch this series and she's still only two (well for the next two days she is) and now DD4 watches it and recognises the Doctor (well DT) on all of DD1 and DD2's posters/books/ etc. If they get scared they'll just have a hug and miss the scary bits out! (Best start saving for therapy then?).
Didn't like CT so much this episode after defending her on the Christmas special, hope she improves. Still can't wait for the next episode.Surprised to hear DT is 6"1 though!

hellsbells76 · 07/04/2008 17:40

oh goody, 6'1" is just fine, perfect kissing height for my 5'8"

sphil · 07/04/2008 23:06

Was just looking at reviews of Saturdays episode and came across Daily Mail website which says that DT has split from his latest girlfriend. Just throwing that into the air, ladies....

handlemecarefully · 07/04/2008 23:58

Thought that 1st episode of this series was extremely weak and uninteresting. Catherine Tate was okay....(not my favourite assistant though by any means)

Arabica · 08/04/2008 00:58

I agree. Think Russell too big for his boots and nobody dares disagree with him. However, wouldn't mind taking an adipose tablet, then I'd fit into my size 12 jeans.
