Anyone going to be watching the new Doctor Who now it is a woman?
Love Jodie as an actress. Never been fussed on the doctor before!!

Thought it was awful sadly. Didn’t see the Dr for ages at the start. Had that throw away “torchwood” monster feel to it. And it arrived in a blue Hershey’s kiss. I mean did they get the pod from the 80’s sets? Thought Jodie was annoying and why hold back the tardis?

I know regeneration episodes can be very hit and miss, so will watch more episodes. But they can great as was Rose for example.

General feel about the coming soon looked boring as well sadly.

I thought the companions were ok though. A lot more understated than Clara etc.

Poor start but definitely has scope to improve.

I loved David Tennant Andy was determined i would hate Matt Smith but loved him and the whole feel of his first episode. I was really excited for a female Dr, but did feel like she was doing an impression of being the Doctor. I kept imagining how DT or MS would have delivered her lines and it wasn’t much better. I don’t think she’s the right actress for the part. I think Jodie Comer would have been better (and phoebe Waller Bridge should write it Grin ) Tardis

ladyflower23 · 08/10/2018 08:11

*and it WAS much better

TheSteakBakeOfAwesome · 08/10/2018 12:25

I actually enjoyed that (hated Matt Baker as Dr Who) - kind of took it back to the David Tennant era which I enjoyed. The first one is always a bit cringeworthily overcrazy while they sort the character change out.

Loved how they handled the dyspraxia storyline - the first time I've actually seen anything on TV handle it as more than "whoops I fall over and bump into things a bit" and how it really had had the impact it did on Ryan's character. I can forgive a lot of dodgy blue aliens with teeth and rubber masks for the fact they did that as well as they did do.

SoupDragon · 08/10/2018 12:28

Matt Baker? 😂😂

Andtheresaw · 08/10/2018 13:07

I stopped watching during the MS era when sludgy clones morphed into sludgy companion into stolen baby assassin/love interest yadayadayada. Just to much and too twisty turny for a family watch at a time when you might conceivably miss an episode or two.
Then saw half an episode of capaldi and just well no.
Recently in a moment of nostalgia I watched the first Ecclestone reboot episode on Netflix. Loved it. Watched last night and the new Dr feels very much the same:
Companion family explained and introduced, Dr turns up at moment of peril. One off monster can be overcome. Away they go.
I have high hopes. It needs to be lighter for at least one incarnation.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/10/2018 13:47

I'm reserving judgement for the moment. We we unconvinced by the bitterly cold blue bulb of garlic.

Also, why Sheffield twice in quick succession? If they can go anywhere in the world.

I also thought they might try to go and rescue the human trophies, but apparently not. I think that, couples with the unnecessary deaths (the security guard upset me) makes it seem a bit light in regard for human life so far.

Azelma · 08/10/2018 13:54

I quite enjoyed it. JW seemed to be pulling a few David Tennant faces, but guess that might be part of her regenerating.

Watched it with subtitles on iPlayer. It sounded as though she said "would of", but subtitles have it as "would've".

Well, dd is 13 and has been REALLYexcited about it.

3 minutes after Dr appear she was - WOW I wasn't expecting her to be so much actually like the Doctor! (as in, she moves, speaks and behaves like Doctor Who)

When the clothes appeared, I was ??? but she said - no mum, that is how the Doctor would dress.

So, given as how this is SUPPOSED to be a kids program, aimed at kids like dd, I guess they got it about right!

(had to laugh though - female Dr, one black companion, one asian female companion, and one old man - could the whole lot be more PC?)

steppemum · 08/10/2018 14:13

for those saying JW was all over the place, yes she was, but wasn't that deliberate, as in she was still recovering from regenerating? working out who she was, forgetting her name etc?
(but I didn't mind, it was amusing)

Once she stopped doing that and was just doing the storyline it settled.

Very sorry Nan wasn't one of the companions, she was fab.

drspouse · 08/10/2018 14:32

I dislike the Doctor’s new trousers, they are just weird. Maybe they are the height of fashion in which case I wouldn’t know but they look daft to me.
None of the previous Doctors have followed fashion - I think it's a nod to them.

SoupDragon · 08/10/2018 15:47

The previous doctors have all looked odd but those trousers look utterly ridiculous. There’s nothing right about them at all.

Just make them long enough to reach her feet and they’d be odd but fine.

TheSteakBakeOfAwesome · 08/10/2018 15:54

Yes I have a mental block over bow tie boy's name - always do for some reason.

Those trousers are all over my bloody social media feed with every clothes shop trying to convince people they're bang on trend and a good look this season... if even a timelord can't pull them off without them looking totally bloody stupid - they're definitely not.

steppemum · 08/10/2018 15:59

The whole point of the trousers is that they are Dr Who ish, not fashion.
It really makes me laugh that people are now being encouraged to rush out and buy them!

crossparsley · 08/10/2018 16:38

I can't do twitter links from this device, but if you have a look for Thirteeny (thirteeny3), maybe on Sylvester McCoy's timeline (glass ceiling tweet), you will find the most fabulous video posted by a little girl dressed up as the Jodie Doctor. Made me well up. She's fantastic!

dementedma · 08/10/2018 19:13

I thought it was garbage. Ticked every possible PC box though.I'm sure when Ryan comes out of the closet it will "solve" his dyspraxia and we will see him and his boyfriend riding off on a tandem into the sunset at some point. Plot made no sense whatsoever, even for a kids show.
Scene of Doctor choosing clothes was so cringingly stereotyped - woman trying on loads of outifts and cant make up her mind while men hang round the changing room doorway. then she appears in an outfit a CBeebies presenter would balk at.
Only good thing was the Nan and she got bumped off.

Yoksha · 08/10/2018 19:54

Another here that absolutely loved it. Started watching with a jaded attitude. Low expectations even before hand, but she's fantastic. Agree with all positive points ^^.

I think the new doctor always tries on lots of clothes. Matt Smith certainly did.

SneakyGremlins · 08/10/2018 20:19

You are aware there was also a woman waiting outside the changing room?

specialsubject · 08/10/2018 20:19

Yep, they always do that. Check out Tom Baker's version, must be on youtube.

Mrsmadevans · 08/10/2018 20:21

We all loved it here . Thought Jodie would be hopeless but she was great , story was good and the monster was brilliant . Looking forward to next weeks episode .

KeiTeNgeNge · 08/10/2018 20:33

We really enjoyed it. My DS1 thought she was awesome while DS2 got scared by the teeth.

TheSteakBakeOfAwesome · 08/10/2018 21:10

All day people have been talking about dyspraxia and actually how it affects people - never ever seen that before and it is totally fucking amazing to the point of bringing tears to my eyes. Wish dd2 was older so she could have watched it and had her classmates understand her a bit better on the back of it all really.

Ontheboardwalk · 08/10/2018 21:12

I enjoyed it thought it was ok although she does need to close her mouth to keep the teeth in check

Also thought there were a lot of deaths in the episode, some like the security guard and the nan for no real reason. People have died in the past but have usually had a reason behind.

DMCWelshCakes · 08/10/2018 21:41

Whichever poster it was who asked about the chapel - it was St Mark's, Gabalfa in Cardiff.
