Anyone going to be watching the new Doctor Who now it is a woman?
Love Jodie as an actress. Never been fussed on the doctor before!!

It was hiding, its been there all the time just waiting...

SneakyGremlins · 07/10/2018 21:16

THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE

TheNavigator · 07/10/2018 21:18

I enjoyed it - I prefer a simple plot with less of the metaphysical timey-wimey confusing stuff. It was fun and had energy - looking forward to next week.

Notmyideamovingon · 07/10/2018 21:20

My kids loved it and were suitably slightly terrified. Good start in my mind

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 07/10/2018 21:21

Well, we liked it. I did miss the title sequence but I loved the retro feel of the theme tune at the end. It didn't matter that the Doctor was a woman and they didn't go on about it.

The first episode is often more about introducing the new characters than a complex plot and I think that was fine. I'd have preferred 'Graham' to have been the one killed off as I liked the gran better.

My only problem was that the policewoman and the Doctor's voices sound a bit similar so I had to concentrate on who was speaking. I think she said 'would've.'

The DSs all loved it and they are big fans. Looking forward to next week. Tardis

My son is 15 has always been a mad doctor who fan from a very young age. He loved watching the very old episodes. His favourite Dr was David tennant but he also liked Matt Smith. He stopped watching half way through the last Dr. He decided to watch it tonight and he enjoyed it.

booandbumpp · 07/10/2018 21:33

I liked it! It's probably the first doctor who episode I've liked since early Matt Smith (I missed David Tennant too much though).
Glad stephen Moffat is gone. Happy female doctor (think JW will get better - first ones are always a bit "set the character"), and it was in Sheffield - where I'm from - so I could happily do a little fist pump every time they mentioned it 😂

tapdancingmum · 07/10/2018 21:42

Tardis Tardis Tardis Tardis - one for each of them in case they don't find hers!!!

MorningsEleven · 07/10/2018 21:56

Loved it. Proper old school Who and she's bloody great.

ApolloandDaphne · 07/10/2018 22:01

I enjoyed it. It was loads of fun. Looking forward to seeing how she develops the role.

TheThirdOfHerName · 07/10/2018 22:05

I'd have preferred 'Graham' to have been the one killed off as I liked the gran better.

Me too

ChoccyJules · 07/10/2018 22:09

Was quite annoying that due to all the publicity about the companions, we knew the fate of one of the characters from the beginning, I was just waiting for her to meet her doom.
Liked the baddie and the Tim Shaw thing.
Would of...argh.
The silliest bit was why the crane would be operating at night. Anyone?

madcatladyforever · 07/10/2018 22:11

I really wanted this to be great after all it's the first female Dr Who but it was awful, the acting was forced and it was just boring.
i am gutted. I hope it improves.

StripySocksAndDocs · 07/10/2018 22:18

That’s a shame madcatladyforever, I thought the exact opposite. Mind you I was so convinced the writing would continue to be awful I didn’t have any hopes!

trancepants · 07/10/2018 22:25

That's the first Doctor Who I've enjoyed in years. I struggled through the earlier Moffat series but eventually gave up due to his shit, up himself writing. (He did wonderful episodes under Davis but his series arcs were awful). It's also my 5yo's first episode and he was completely into it. He loved it even if it did scare him and make him cry a little when he realised Ryan's Nan had died. He keeps trying to negotiate with me to make episode 2 be on tomorrow instead of next week. Grin

DaysofWineandNeurosis · 07/10/2018 22:25

I though she was ok. A bit manic but first episode after a regeneration always seems odd.
Too many nice people dying though, which upset my son. Particularly the security guard chatting to his Grandaughter. That seemed unnecessarily harsh for a kids show.

Would have much preferred the Gran as a companion. ☹️

DaysofWineandNeurosis · 07/10/2018 22:27

Oh and had to laugh at the lad throwing his bike off the top of some hill, supposedly near Sheffield and it landing in Puzzle Wood.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 07/10/2018 22:29

I did screech 'Puzzle Wood' at the screen! It's a standing joke in our family. We also watched a lot of Merlin...

Singlenotsingle · 07/10/2018 22:32

We saw it. Over-acted, I thought. And the storyline was difficult to follow. (Either that, or I lost interest very early on). Doubt we'll bother with it again!

AtSea1979 · 07/10/2018 23:11

I hope next weeks is going to have an theme tune intro.
I wish she’d have had a proper regeneration intro. Looks of looking in mirrors and making jokes etc but I guess they were worried it wouldn’t be PC enough.
Speaking of which, there seems to be an awful lot of black/Asian actors in this one. Interesting coincidence or deliberate ott at being PC do you think?
Though liking the dyspraxia added in.
Not as funny as it has been previously. Not much humour in the writing.

AlevelConfusion · 07/10/2018 23:43

I thought JW's acting was a bit crap

Me too, it was very forced. Bit disappointing really SadTardis

AlevelConfusion · 07/10/2018 23:46

Hopefully it's just teething (!) problems.
GrinGrinGrin

WhirlwindHugs · 07/10/2018 23:54

I loved it!

Jodie was a bit all over the place to start with, but they always are. David tennant is asleep for most of his first episode. I always think they become 'themselves' once theie proper costume goes on and completely think that's the case with this episode.

Super excited for next week. My 6yo boy loved it.

SoupDragon · 08/10/2018 07:07

I thought JW's acting was a bit crap

Not as crap as Bradley’s!

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 08/10/2018 07:13

You just have to write off episode 1. It's never what the person is capable of. Give until around episode 4 and if it's still the same then we know it's just crap rather than teething problems.
