Anyone going to be watching the new Doctor Who now it is a woman?
Love Jodie as an actress. Never been fussed on the doctor before!!

I gave up on Dr Who after David Tennant but after seeing Jodie Whittaker being interviewed I gave this a go.
I see they have gone back to the low budget set with lots of daft running around. Quite nice but Jodie is too earnest. Love the fact that her accent isn't too toned down.

Squidgee · 14/10/2018 22:33

I love her, I think she's perfect.

I adored DT and was gutted when he left.

I hated MS, only watched the first and last couple of episodes of his run, and the special where they had all of the dr's in.

Capaldi I enjoyed but didn't love, could take or leave, was just glad MS had fucked off.

I think JW has promise.

PawneeParksDept · 14/10/2018 22:35

Your words are practically blasphemy to me @Squidgee AngryGrin

nuttynutjob · 14/10/2018 22:44

Checking in.

Loved the cinematography. Love the new Doctor. I miss Murray Gold's music though

LassWiADelicateAir · 14/10/2018 23:02

She's fine. Bradley Walsh, whom I expected to hate is fine. The token young black man and the token young Asian woman are surplus to requirements. There has been no effort so far to do anything with them other than she is relentlessly and irritatingly chirpy and he whines a bit.

WhirlwindHugs · 15/10/2018 06:56

Don't call them token - Ryan and Jaz were great in the first episode when they had more to do. Also its shit, do you realise how much racist abuse they will be getting from certain quarters just for the fact they're there at all?

If anyone is token, it feels like Bradley to me. The scene with Ryan talking about his grandma that should have been moving, wasn't. I don't think Bradley is a good enough actor to pull it off.

SoupDragon · 15/10/2018 07:18

I agree that Bradley is shit. No depth and totally wooden.

I so hope that they've not repainted the tardis but Jodie did say it had had a face lift so I'm a little concerned. Also, Jaz mentioned seeing a green police box on some road or other so there is the chance they're going back in their timeline and it's a green blue. Also, they've fucked up the music so they're not averse to ruining stuff!

It is up to the scriptwriters to give them a point in being there. There was no point in Yaz being there at all in last night's episode. She could have been omitted completely and it would have made no difference, and very little in Ryan's.

I really don't like Bradley Walsh but it wasn't him who was wooden in that scene.

thecatsthecats · 15/10/2018 09:11

SoupDragon - Yas was mentioning a real police box, that's on a real street in Sheffield - I've seen it. I went to university there, loving all the little Sheffield references.

I agree that we're at least one companion too many, but I can't decide which one. Bradley Walsh is the worst actor though, so I feel like they should have made the most of the other two. Or maybe if the extras joined later.

It is a little too much of an ensemble cast at the moment for the new Doctor to breath.

SoupDragon · 15/10/2018 10:05

Well, that's one relief.

Although I'm still worried it's teal!

SoupDragon · 15/10/2018 10:06

She could have been omitted completely and it would have made no difference, and very little in Ryan's.

To be fair, I think they could have omitted all of them and made no difference.

Proper Dr Who 😀

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 15/10/2018 12:14

I missing the excitement from the music.

I miss the build up and the atmosphere it creates. The music during Matt smiths time was fab and tennant's really.

PawneeParksDept · 21/10/2018 19:41

Is anyone finding this episode (Rosa Parks) extremely tone deaf ? I want to know if it's just me.

IdahoCrow · 21/10/2018 19:51
Tardis
rosy71 · 21/10/2018 19:54

Another great episode imo

RebelWitchFace · 21/10/2018 19:54

Loved tonight's episode

OddBoots · 21/10/2018 19:56

PawneeParksDept what do you mean tone deaf? The music sounds wrong?

darkriver198868 · 21/10/2018 19:57

Loved the episode and i welled up at the end.

5foot5 · 21/10/2018 19:59

Really enjoyed tonight's episode.
Prediction: the bad guy who Ryan blasted to time and place unknown - bet that comes back to bite them. They will bump in to him again later in the series won't they?

PawneeParksDept · 21/10/2018 20:02

Firstly, I only caught the beginning and the end, but have I understood correctly that the story was that Rosa Parks was only able to take a stand that night due to their actions?

If that's accurate then that's what the problem is.

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 21/10/2018 20:03

darkriver you're not the only one!

Pawnee, I’m not sure what you mean by tone deaf? It did seem like a heavy handed retelling of the Rosa Parks story. As something set in the USA, it was very British, and the detail was a bit sloppy. I’m pretty sure a raffle would be referred to as a lottery.
However, I’m enjoying Jodie as Dr Who so I will forgive!
