Apparently she called Charley the N word in a 'joking manner' whilst they were dancing and was chucked out at 3 in the morning.

Stupid, silly naive girl

I don't like the word chav (it's a real term which has been misused/abused) and tbh I'm not familiar with the term pikey. But if it used in the same way as chav, then yes I would object.

Chav/chavvy is a Roma(ny) word

Mercy · 07/06/2007 22:15

Sorry forgot to say that N is more offensive imo. It is very specific and offensive in it's meaning and usage

Mercy · 07/06/2007 22:15

its

for all you pendants

Nightynight · 07/06/2007 22:18

what is the original meaning of chav?
I didnt know it was a romany word.

Mercy · 07/06/2007 22:24

have a look here and for origins of Romany words

The website is v intersting

TnOgu · 07/06/2007 22:30

I never knew 'cushti' was a romany word

That's very interesting

TnOgu · 07/06/2007 22:43

I'm going before they all come back >>>>>>

Mercy · 07/06/2007 22:45

I haven't even watched it since the first day!

okeydokeygirl · 07/06/2007 22:50

Oh my word. I have just watched what Emily actually said on BB and she is in soooooo much trouble. And the more she tried to play it down the bigger the hole she dug. If she is not a racist - which she might not be - she is sooooo misguided. I do wonder what she and her friends think is acceptable though.

bananabump · 07/06/2007 22:51

Mercy, here's a lil catch up for you:

11 girls go in, squeal and dance around for two days, then a boy is thrown in. A pretty boy! girls squeal more and then bitching starts. More squealing and big arguments over hair straighteners, boots, and who has a boy in their bed and who doesn't! Then one girl opens her yap, chooses about the least intelligent thing to say therefore committing TV suicide and is removed from the house in her nightie in the middle of the night.

That's about it, you haven't missed much!

electra · 07/06/2007 22:53

A lot of people don't know they are racist. But they say racist things because they are ignorant of the implications. And they need to be told. We are all capable of it sadly.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 07/06/2007 22:53

Oh Banana, so true about the squealing.
I can't bear it.

TaylorsMummy · 07/06/2007 22:54

stupid cow.she just tried denying it.a mis understanding my arse

hana · 07/06/2007 22:56

very odd that they thought that if they whispered it would all be brushed under the carpet and big brother wouldn't notice??

bananabump · 07/06/2007 22:56

Yeah, not clever. Denial doesn't work when you have recording equipment pointing at you 24/7, Ems!!

bananabump · 07/06/2007 22:57

I know, hana! it's as if they haven't watched the bloody show! Surely they know all dialogue is scrutinised, even if it's whispered.

carol3 · 07/06/2007 23:04

stupid girl, she's acting like a spoilt 6 year old!

okeydokeygirl · 07/06/2007 23:05

electra - i absolutely agree. If we don't raise issues about what is acceptable and what is not then how will anyone ever learn. But even the stupidest of people should have learned not to say this particular word by now.

okeydokeygirl · 07/06/2007 23:07

to add to her stupidity - in response to BBs question after they told her she was going to be evicted there and then she waffles on about how she didn't mean it offensively and 'i haven't even got any underwear on'. for goodness sake - does the girl not learn

lisad123 · 07/06/2007 23:08

She seems to more worried about defending herself than accepting what she said was wrong
Silly girl

stupid little girl. how ignorant and pathetic. she claims it was a joke...how on earth could that be jokey?????? i thought it was shocking of her and i think BB did the right thing.

lisad123 · 07/06/2007 23:35

Never liked her any ways
come on Carol or Tracy

persephonesnape · 08/06/2007 08:36

sorry, missed i bit while i was sleeping.

I personally don't think that pikey is quite as bad as Nr, but being of romany heritage, i hate hearing it, then again i also don't like paki, paddy, tally etc etc. there isn't the objectionable slave owning history behind pikey, paddy - but there is an association of not being quite as 'good' as nice white people, so i don't use any of them.

on watching last nights efforts ( i did get bored and turn off half way through) I still think she was a daft wee girl and exteremely ignorant of what was acceptable. I don't put her up theer with cross burning segregationists because to some people the word has evolved into a 'down with my homies' kind of thing. I don't find that acceptable and i imagine a lot of black folk won't like the association when it's uttered by a wee ignorant white girl.

that said, i don'tthink they were right to chuck her out. i think they acted too swiftly because of the shilpa saga and the public should have had the opportunity to express their opinion on the matter (and raise some cash for endemol as well...)
