Yes where on earth did the mother get her money from? wafting around a few candles in her shed? I don’t think so. This programme is way to fluffy, I have said this before on here bring back Alvin Hall, your money or your life, he was fabulous.

FinnBalorsAbs · 21/08/2019 21:14

The fact this show is on the Beeb is killing me - I’ve fallen in love with £15 dinosaur bedlinen and the chunky purple throw for £18 but they haven’t said where they’re from.

MyForbiddenLover · 21/08/2019 21:14

Oh yes, the Alvin Hall programme was brilliant! 👍🏻

I'm still watching the end of the show as I paused the tv for a few minutes. I'm gobsmacked at £500 per year just on candles! Has she never set foot in a Home Bargains?

Daysofpearlyspencer · 21/08/2019 21:18

Oh I was just thinking how much I miss Alvin hall, that was a really much better program by him, we need a petition to bring him back

Justmuddlingalong · 21/08/2019 21:20

I love that the 3 year old went "yay, new shoes!" Wearing brands is a taught behaviour. Babies don't pop out demanding to wear only designer babygros, top of the range scratch mitts and refusing to use anything but expensive brand toiletries. More fool the idiots that start and continue to buy overpriced, branded things.

Loveislandaddict · 21/08/2019 21:21

We’ve still got Alvin Halls book on the bookshelf, the original moneysaver..

I’m also gobsmacked how she (and other families) fund their lifestyle. £70 on brushes, aftershave for the eldest lad, etc. She must be in a lot of debt, or have a good maintenance deal.

I can see how the mum indulges her daughter following the bullying. However, she needn’t spend so much money.

Don’t know why, I don’t think they will change their expensive habits. They may buy fewer products, but I think they will still buy expensive goods.

TitsInAbsentia · 21/08/2019 21:38

Love that the kid said £80 on leggings when she said herself they were high end, what a dufus...mum needs to be teaching her some life skills now!

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/08/2019 21:49

Working tonight so will catch up TOM

Missed this week.
I miss Alvin Hall too, he was brilliant at creating a sensible budget and banging idiot couples heads together.

TitsInAbsentia · 22/08/2019 08:25

DH sat down just as they were talking about the little lad and his aftershave...he is rarely speechless 😹
I don’t see why a 14/15 year old needs their nails done, I don’t buy all this I spoil her because of the bullying, what about just getting her some counselling and teaching her the value of self worth Angry

Seeline · 22/08/2019 08:41

My 15 yo DD was sat there open mouthed saying 'Have they never heard of Primark?' over and over 😁 I was proud!

We both want to know where the £2 mascara was from though ....

howwudufeel · 22/08/2019 08:48

My DS watched open mouthed too.

mydogisthebest · 22/08/2019 10:40

I am just catching up with watching last night's episode. 10 minutes in and I could smack the mother. £500 on candles, £700 on throws, 45 jumpers!! Total idiot. Silly grin on her face when they tell her how much she has spent.

As others have said, how the hell is she affording it? Either someone helping out such as parents, getting a lot from the childrens' father(s) or getting a lot of benefits.

I love fresh flowers but for me they are a treat. £2,000 a year on them!

Why do these people never stop and think about what they are spending money on? If, for some odd reason, you think you need that many throws, why not buy cheaper ones?

The mother is a spoilt brat and bringing the daughter up as one too. They both need a good shake and slap - I'll volunteer

Jamb16 · 22/08/2019 10:41

I think is a brand sold in wilkos, the mascara I mean. Pretty sure I noticed it a few days a go in there

mydogisthebest · 22/08/2019 10:49

Does anyone know where the cushion with the birds on is from? It matches my bedroom wallpaper so would be great in there although I only want it if it is a reasonable price!

Also the teapot and crockery with birds on

Daysofpearlyspencer · 22/08/2019 12:19

I did wonder if the bullying was as a result of the girl wearing designer stuff around school, with the mother fuelling it by her indulgence - not that its an excuse to bully

Blobby10 · 22/08/2019 12:44

I think that sometimes, spending just becomes a habit and people genuinely don't see the totals at the bottom of the bill. That telephone bill!!!!!!!! Both had obviously got it fixed in their heads that the most expensive is the best - I'm glad they (seemed) to accept that it wasn't the case although I did hate each and every one of those lamps Grin

The girl was so pretty - huge eyes and amazing skin (although I guess she did have a lot of facials [grin[) I really hope she gets on with that job and keeps it.

MyForbiddenLover · 22/08/2019 13:28

No way does someone one a normal income spend 2k per year on flowers! She must have a really high income from somewhere!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 22/08/2019 14:19

I live in the town where this family live. I could really empathise with the daughter being bullied.

It's a very very affluent and materialistic place. I don't buy into designer brands so my son dreads non uniform day because of all the showing off of expensive t shirts and tops ( the brand Supreme is very popular apparently)

He hates that I buy him cheap trainers ( cheap being no more that £50!)

My dd who is perfectly lovely looking was bullied for not having her eyebrows done and for ( apparently having hairy legs and arms ) - she's 11 for God's sake! In the end I had to give in and let her have them threaded.

Girls her age regularly go to the beauty salon for pre holiday manicures and pedicures etc. I don't buy into that at all.

I've seen local girls give her the up and down sneering look because of what she is wearing - she isn't interested in designer clothing and dresses for comfort rather than high fashion.

The need to have a house that looks like a show home is very big here too. My DD says she is embarrassed to bring her friends home because it's so untidy ( it's not at all untidy it's just that I don't obsess about having completely clear work surfaces in the kitchen at all times. She gets the hump if I leave a recipe book out or if I leave the post on the kitchen island.

TalkToMeAboutSocialWorkPlease · 22/08/2019 14:51

Alvin Hall was amazing, the BBC should definitely get him to do another series.

And there was some programmes done with a woman who sorted the financial side and a man who looked into the psychology of why they were in that financial mess in the first place. Anyone remember? Jay and Ben maybe???

MyForbiddenLover · 22/08/2019 15:36

@TalkToMeAboutSocialWorkPlease that programme was BBC 3 Spendaholics. Such a great show!

Aquietflame · 22/08/2019 16:46

Seeline · 22/08/2019 17:21
