Wilko sell online, so you might find it in their website

Alvin Hall was brilliant.

I reckon that mother was running her "business" and claiming benefits without informing the DWP. She's probably in shedloads of debt as well. If she's renting, she'll be getting Housing Benefit to cover at least part of the rent.

If she's getting maintenance she's probably quite well off.

This is why I love Mumsnet!! Well done finding the mascara , and yy to bringing back Alvin Hall! And I remember the spendaholics programme too! That's what we need to understand why as well as get that smack in the face reality check.

My mouth was hanging open at this programme- how can people seriously spend that much money?! Where does it come from?! I really feel for the family, really not easy having bullying happen, but this is not the way to deal with it as pp have said.

I still love nosing at how people live though Blush

I can't imagine that anyone would commit benefit fraud and highlight their existence on TV.

I've only watched bits, but I dont get it. If you've already bought a chandelier, how is it saving money to buy another one? If you've got 101 jumpers, just dont buy any more at any price....
I can see some of the savings (cut flowers for example), but quite a lot of it is money already spent, no?

Im sure the programme is heavily edited (and not often in the participants favour) but watched on catch up yday (my 13 year old loves it !!) and had to laugh about the teenager saying if she got a saturday job ,"if I'm bored on a saturday i can go to work" ....as if work was something you only decide to do if nothing more interesting comes along!!

I loved Alvin Hall, we used to video his programmes. It's thanks to him we are where we are now, always budgeted etc

I remember one programme he did where the couple didn't want to get a job as they'd 'pay too much tax' Confused I often wonder where they are now.

Bring back Alvin

Have come to the conclusion the girl is a brat and selfish
No the shampoo. No to bedding

Bet once she buys herself she will change her mind

Tho 2k on flowers is also insane - £40 a
Week

Glad I don’t live there as my DD would be crucified - she cba to shave legs half the time mainly due to sensitive skin though!!! DS would be ok as he likes his branded sportswear although not every piece is branded plus I go for the sale rail.
Aftershave for 8 years old boy? Ffs! Even 15 yr old ds who does shave, doesn’t use it.

I think it would be more interesting if there was an explanation of WHY the mother was buying so many grey jumpers. And the flowers...that's ridiculous. £2k!

@ilovesooty: it used to be possible to have a "business" and claim benefits. My friend was doing it-not fraudulently. She was an artist-never made money.

She had 2 kids, claiming Tax Credits, some kind of income replacement benefit, child benefit and housing benefit.

It always grates when they give small children new toys/clothes and then comment that they were happy with the cheaper substitute! Of course they are they're excited about getting something new, but often the things (to me) look very obviously cheaper and poor quality. For example we have had several types of non branded lego and none are as good as proper lego. I have bought my kids stuff from poundland and its broken the 2nd time they play with it. Some things are worth spending more on, or getting better quality second hand. (We have bought 2nd hand lego and sylvanian families as well as 2nd hand xbox)

@mydogisthebest.
The crockery is from Dunelm. I know that because I bought the dinner plates and cake stands in that design for the cupcakes and macaroons after the service at my daughters wedding.
My daughter berated me for making an executive decision but then saw them and agreed they were perfect !

Bit late but just watching this now, my mouth actually dropped open when they said her son had such an expensive aftershave. Missed how old he is (looks about 9ish?) but that is one of the most ridiculous things I've heard!

@Skinnychip, I agree about the toys. I don't let my DC buy anything from poundland etc anymore as it doesn't last. I'd rather they talked about cost v durability. Almost all our long lasting toys have been expensive but lasted long, Brio on about year 7 and still going strong and we got it used from EBay!

If she's earning enough to fund all this from her holistic therapy business I might think about clearing out my shed and setting myself up with a few candles!

Storing up so many issues down the line

I've just caught up with this today. I was shocked about the DD being bullied so badly at school her mum had to buy her stuff.
My DC1 is starting year 7 in September do the schools not clamp down on this ? There was no mention of going to the school to stop bullying but buying Poundland face masks instead. I'm a bit shocked.
