@SlimmingMumOf1

@Benjispruce I think they must get paid something

OP posts:
Benjispruce · 14/08/2019 20:48

I just couldn’t deal with everyone knowing my finances and stupidity Blush

Solonelywastheballard · 14/08/2019 20:48

@Benjispruce

Ok I get what you mean.

Solonelywastheballard · 14/08/2019 20:49

I think they are so stupid they don't realise the show makes them look stupid.

She was going to chuck a dyson away because the filter needed cleaning. How stupid do you get.

Skinnychip · 14/08/2019 20:49

...they ignored the fact if it was for air b n b or single night stays they would have to clean and change bedding every time which is more time consuming

Lilliput · 14/08/2019 20:57

I don't get this program really. They've already got all the stuff. Save money by not buying more stuff.

Benjispruce · 14/08/2019 20:58

I think it’s more of a going forward plan. Wouldn’t make sense to replace everything.

LaMainDeFatima · 14/08/2019 20:59

They should concentrate on the consumables ; the things that they buy often.

jay55 · 14/08/2019 21:00

I hope someone from here will take up the bbc offer to be on Eat well for less.

Iwantacookie · 14/08/2019 21:06

2 washing machines for 4 of them? Are they washing their neighbours washing too?
Very strange family.

RedSkyLastNight · 14/08/2019 21:09

They live v. close to the Open University and to MK hospital. There are always people there wanting Monday to Friday rentals or short term lets. They could do quite well financially out of either.

JinglingHellsBells · 14/08/2019 21:16

Tonight's episode- how much debt were they in? They had overspent by £30K on extension but what about the rest? Ironically she was a 'financial analyst' and he was an 'engineer' yet couldn't clean a vacuum filter Hmm

It IS a totally silly format because you can't save on things you have already bought (and are unlikely ever to buy again for ages.)

howwudufeel · 14/08/2019 21:43

You would expect them to have more sense with those jobs.

Solonelywastheballard · 14/08/2019 21:55

What were their jobs?

Solonelywastheballard · 14/08/2019 21:56

Scratch that I've just read prev post.

Dorsetcamping · 15/08/2019 14:27

Ridiculous. These people are £1000s in debt and they're wasting time making diy dishwasher powder 🙄

BarbaraofSeville · 15/08/2019 20:56

He was an engineer who couldn't fix a vacuum cleaner and she was a financial analyst who couldnt see that buying tonnes and tonnes of clothes was getting them into debt Confused

We have 2 ovens. Great for roasts, parties, Christmas and you need 2 because otherwise you can't use the oven and grill at the same time. We only have one very cheap crappy microwave though because built in microwaves are scarily expensive.

You can get all in one dishwasher tablets for 7 pence each in Aldi. I'd just buy those and look for savings elsewhere, even if the dishwasher goes on every day it's only a £25 a year spend.

Blobby10 · 16/08/2019 11:31

I'm glad its not just me asking how they can justify saying they are 'saving' money when the money has already been spent ! Surely it would be better to say 'this is what you could have saved" in a camp game show presenter voice Grin

But seriously, how many toys and clothes?!!! I have no problem with them doing the kitchen up to a high spec - its the other stuff which had me shouting at the TV much to the amusement of my boyfriend Grin.

And the 'oh save on those gym memberships and unused pieces of equipment by doing a skipping and kettlebell workout in the garden" Anyone want to bet on how often they do that when its wet and cold? Not that they used the gym and fitness equipment anyway so why not sell it and raise some cash?!!!! Grrrrrrr! I KNOW they have to condense a lot of filming into a single hour programme but the editing seems to be designed to get me worked up. Smile yes i also know that I don't have to watch the programme and did find it interesting how to make your own cleaning products but wouldn't fancy any of that stuff lying around with young kids in the house.

mydogisthebest · 17/08/2019 08:20

When me and DH visited Bletchley Park we stayed in an Airbnb in Milton Keynes. The owner said she gets a lot of bookings.

I thought the couple seemed nice enough but I just could not understand their attitudes. Two microwaves so meals can be ready at exactly the same time! Firstly cook a proper meal or if you have to have microwave meals put 2 in at the same time or one person waits a whole 4 or 5 minutes to have their meal.

Two ovens I can understand as I like double ovens but 2 washing machines is just plain crazy. I bet they tumble dry it all too rather than hanging it outside.

The clothes and the makeup were crazy too. All that makeup and yet most days she doesn't even wear any because she doesn't have time to put it on!

JinglingHellsBells · 17/08/2019 10:31

so are you saying you stayed with the telly couple at their AirBnB?

JinglingHellsBells · 17/08/2019 10:32

what annoys me is how they always choose families you have a lot of disposable income yet waste it, rather than a family living on the average income of £27K pa.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/08/2019 10:48

But the family on £27k will already be doing all the moneysaving ideas, or else they'll be beyond bankrupt. There's a limit to how low you can go.

flapjackfairy · 17/08/2019 11:11

What shocked me was that they had only been together a few years ( 7 I think they said )and they had racked up goodness knows how much debt because even on good incomes their spending was astronomical . Surely they were heading for bankruptcy in no time if they didn't make changes quick smart.
But I did envy the 2 washers. I have a largish family with 2 disabled kiddies who create mountains of washing . Think wet beds etc so i lust after a second machine !

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/08/2019 21:19

Same as the food one tho. People who spend £150/200 a week and Lowe it by £40/50

Rather then a family soending £50 a week

Easy to cut down when spending lots in the first place

mydogisthebest · 18/08/2019 08:47

@JinglingHellsBells no I didn't stay with the couple on the programme. I am saying there is a market for Airbnb in Milton Keynes as previous posters were asking why anyone would want to stay there
